T.R.O.Y.

Damn, the people at the Coca Cola Company really are geniuses! Either they know how to profit off memories, or they know that there’s a large group of people who prefer drinking from glass as opposed to aluminum or plastic.

So I stopped by the gas station on my way to work the other day because I really wanted a Little Debbie oatmeal pie and a Coke. I hadn’t had an oatmeal pie in a while so I don’t know why I wanted one so bad, but I did. I went inside, got the pie and made my way to the cooler to get my Coke. They had the regular 12 ounce cans for $.79, but I looked over a little further and saw they had a glass bottle of Coke for $1.39. It was only 12 ounces too, but it was in a glass bottle. When I saw the bottle I immediately thought about growing up in Alabama in the hot ass summer playing with my cousins and anytime I had a little extra change I would always go get myself a coke.

A normal person probably would not have paid $.60 extra cents for the same amount of soda. It’s not like I was going to keep the damn bottle so what difference would it have made? I didn’t use logic at the time unfortunately because I’m not normal. All I could think about was drinking Coke from a glass bottle. I remembered how it felt and I just had to have it. I swear it took me back to a time that was so less complicated. I thought about things I hadn’t thought about in years. I was calm on the drive to work, almost blissfully happy that I was able to escape the reality that is my life today. Not that it’s a bad reality, but I didn’t realize how good it was to be young and carefree when I was young and carefree. Sometimes you can’t appreciate simple things until they are long gone.

I guess my point in writing this is to ask, what’s a memory worth to you? Do you ever do something that just takes you back?
