Back in the day this was the jumpoff

I don’t know how this happened, but searching for the Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth classic T.R.O.Y., I happened upon something that did take me back Co Co.

Proud moment for me growing up

My stepbrother and I loved Jimmy Snuka–as I’m sure a lot of you did. My favorite wrestler was obviously Tony Atlas, but there was also Special Delivery “SD” Jones, The Rock’s dad, Rocky Johnson, The Road Warriors (loved the power slam), Pedro Morales, Chief Jay Strongbow, Stan “The Lariat” Hansen, Ric Flair (Woooooo!), Dusty Rhodes and of course Andre the Giant.

I remember watching this match live. Wrestling was like Santa Claus when you found out it was fake, you were done with it, but back then?

Not yet…

When Snuka went off the top of the cage? That was one of the biggest moments in “sports” ever for me.

Junkyard Dog can’t get no love? lol After the Road Warriors, he had the best intro music.

  2. mizzo says:

I knew somebody was going to say JYD. My bad.

  3. thebrotherreport says:

I always wondered why he didn’t win the title when he did that. It was a fluke he headbutted Muraco out of the cage and after the decision pulled him back in and did his thing. Probably one of the Top 10 Moments in Madison Square Garden history. Up there with Ali/Frazier I and Willis Reed in Game 7.

Snuka came of the top of the cage against Bob Backlund too but missed.

man…. now we’re old-schooling it. If I wasn’t at work I’d be posting some old NWA stuff. Ric Flair was an influence on more people’s clothes game than they want to admit.

and Mizz….. I actually never gave up watching Wrestling. i still do, and actually are more into the indie stuff now than the mainstream WWE and TNA stuff precisely because of the vast difference in how the wrestlers of color are treated on the indies than in the Big 2.

Flair was the first dude I saw rock the Porsche design shades, peep his interviews and see how many different pairs he sports.

  6. Okori says:

Dark Journey~! First, and to my money still, the finest black woman I ever saw.

And of course Flair rocked Porsche design shades. That man was the G.O.A.T. dresser. Not even MJ can touch him.

  7. thebrotherreport says:

    Dark Journey??? She was ok.

  8. Okori says:

wel…. she was first. I mean, with time, Halle Berry looks better.

and one of these days I am going to upload a match from Britain that shows the difference between how American wrestling fans treat African wrestlers and how the Brits do.

  9. Diallo says:

Flair was a pimp. That guy was way ahead of his time.

  10. thebrotherreport says:

    That should be interesting.

Do this watch some of the old WWF shows and peep the racial undertones, there was a segment where Tony Atlas was on ‘Piper’s Pit’ and came out there with a watermelon, talking broken english the whole nine yards, it was a disgrace. About a year ago on RAW Vince McMahon was talking to Booker T and Vince ended the convo instead of saying “my man” or “my friend” he ended it by saying “my nigga” my jaw dropped and so did Booker’s.

I know this stuff is scripted but he crossed the line on that one

  11. Okori says:

    Flair= awesome.

  12. Okori says:

yeah… the big 2 treat people of color (including Mexicans and Asians) in a disgusting manner.

  13. Okori says:

and TBR that thing he said to Booker was on a Pay-per-view. not raw.

  14. thebrotherreport says:

Ok, I caught the clip on RAW.

  15. Okori says:

    well WWE is stupid.

TBR where are you residing now?

  16. Okori says:

I ask this because there is probably an indy promotion in your general area that you could take your kids too, and get a nicer time with a much more fan-friendly product at a reasonable price.

  17. thebrotherreport says:

Philly-Birthplace of ECW. Which I loved in its early years.

Taz v. Sabu were some of the GREATEST MATCHES I’ve ever seen

  18. Okori says:

ok. April 20th ECW Arena. Go to Chikara. You will not be disappointed.

and I was more of a fan of the Malenko-Guerrero series.

  19. thebrotherreport says:

That wasn’t a bad one either, gotta admit I got choked up when Eddie Guerrero beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania

  20. Okori says:

*spits his water* TBR man get your game together. Guerrero beat Lesnar at No Way OUt… not Wrestlemania.

  21. thebrotherreport says:

LOL!!! It was Benoit who won at WrestleMania right? Too many pay per views man. Hilarious *spits his water* LOL!

  22. CEvidence says:

And I thought I was the only one still not able to kick the habit.

On another note, does anyone realize how big the Anoai family was to wrestling. The family tree has too many superstar names from the High Chief, to Jimmy Snuka, to the Headshrinkers, to Yokozuna, The Rock, Umaga and still has new guys coming out every year!!!

  23. Okori says:

Benoit beat Michaels and HHH at WM20. Guerrero retained against Angle.

And yeah… the Anoai family is huge.

  24. HarveyDent says:

Was always a Don Muraco fan because there was something sinister about that guy. Even though he was a heel he could just as easily do a good turn somewhere. I spent most of my years in the Durty so I’m more an NWA fan because the WWF/WWE was just too polished for me because nothing beat seeing Magnum TA against Nikita Koloff, Dusty Rhodes vs. Ric Flair, Arn Anderson-Tully Blanchard against the Road Warriors. I could go on and on because not to sound too much like an old man but that’s when rasslin’ was rasslin’

  25. HarveyDent says:

After watching those clips of the great Ric Flair, I just remember what the Wu said when you entered the 36 chambers: If you want noise then bring the ruckus/Ric Flair ain’t nothin to f—k with.

Truly a force of nature in wrestling.
