Something Is Wrong When…

Someone needs to catch a bad one. Sho Nuff!

The behavior of the powers that be in sports the past couple of months has me scratching my head. More surprising than their actions is the response or lack thereof in the main stream media.

Take a look.

Shhhhhh I’m relaxin’ over here

How is it that the head coach of an NBA franchise can be allowed to take time away from coaching during his team’s dismal season to tour the college basketball circuit scouting potential NBA draft picks. In the midst of the “Tour” he shuts his star player down for the season, supposedly improving his teams chances for the #1 pick in this summer’s draft.

The offender here is none other than recent Hall of Fame Inductee Pat Riley who also doubles as head coach of the Miami Heat. But here’s the real kicker, he’s paid handsomely in the off season as a motivational speaker.

I’ve got a little more respect for New York Knicks head coach Isaiah Thomas than I did yesterday, with all the hell he went through this season, he stood there, took the darts and kept coming back night after night.

Caught mad wreck this year. It ain’t all about NY either

How can baseball’s career home run leader coming off of a 28 home run season be out of work. His wax figure has been removed from the San Francisco Giants team museum and teams are avoiding him like the plague. He has spoken with a handful of teams nothing coming to fruition.

I said two years ago that if Barry Bonds was the home run king when he became a free agent Commissioner Bud Selig would go as far as he could to ensure that Bonds would never play another game that following season. I wouldn’t be shocked if Selig sent a memo to the other 29 owners telling them not to touch Bonds, only inquire about his services so it won’t look to obvious.

There’s no way Barry Bonds shouldn’t be smacking balls out of somebody’s yard

You’re the stud quarterback on a decent team in the best conference in college football. You knock of the #1 team in the country your senior season. During that year you pass for 3,709 yards 40 touchdowns to only 11 interceptions. You’re not the “typical” Black Quarterback because your career stats show that you’ve rushed for -490 yards. You weren’t invited to the Heisman and now the NFL draft is a week away and no one really mentions you’re name. What do you do?

This is what Kentucky quarterback Andre Woodson is facing in the upcoming days as the NFL Draft approaches. Woodson is taller with a better arm and mechanics than those placed ahead of him. Matt Ryan may be the first QB picked but I think Woodson will be just as good if not better.

Do you really doubt his talent or are doing so just because they tell you to?

How come no on in the American Press has even remotely discussed theses issues?

    TBR,

Great post. The good ole boys are hard at work again. Thank God for u guys to level the playing field.

  2. DavidMac says:

There isn’t any good ole boys stuff going on.

Riely gets a pass because he has won 4 NBA Championships, had a old untalented roster and has a proven history of putting together competitive teams. Isiah has 0 championships as a coach and while he has put together good squads in the past, he couldn’t get it done in NY.

Bonds will get picked up in the middle of the season by teams looking for the extra push to get them over the hump. Don’t worry about him.

Andre Woodson, isn’t being talked about because he ran a lot and didn’t play consistantly at the end of last season. I think he will be the steal of the draft. I think you are putting too much into him though, I think it is equally a shame that you don’t hear anyone boosting up Flynn (Champion QB), Woodson, and Dixon, as much as they are boosting up Flacco (fucking Flacco from Delaware, not even D1A, I think), Colt Brennan, and Matt Ryan.

Lets not forget how everyone is ignoring the best QB on the board, Ainge from Tennessee. I’m not even a Vols fan, but that guy is going to be the next elite QB out of college.

  3. Miranda says:

    I’m not even gonna front.
Mizzo can you ban Davidmac again?? Please? Everyone welcomes diversity of opinions, but he’s just an idiot, a big ole (insert every derogatory, vile epithet you can think of here).

  4. mizzo says:

LOL Wow Miranda and you asked so nicely ;)

As much as we don’t agree with pretty much anything DMac says, this site wouldn’t be real with out a modicum of dissent.

As long as he isn’t talking about shooting somebody I can deal.

  5. Miranda says:

*folds arms, rolls eyes, purses lips*………..well fine then!

Ok so also in the world of sports media bias, why is it that JP Losman and Jared Allen have been “asking” to be traded, but Ocho Cinco (and he is so justified in wanting this) is the one being portrayed as the ungrateful malcontent “threatening” his team if he isn’t traded?

  6. DavidMac says:

Why does Chad get more press, easy. He is a superstar, and superstars always get more coverage than non-superstars. That has nothing to do with “the evil white man” trying to oppress and misrepresent “the negro”. In my honest opinion, of course.

  7. michelle says:

    DavidMac,

    BE QUIET!

  8. michelle says:

Great game between the Mets and Phillies Santana and Hamels didn’t disappoint. Santana and the Mets get the win though.

  9. michelle says:

I’m off to work. You guys have a good night!

  10. Co Co says:

Ainge is the best quarterback in the draft??? Really?

  11. The GREAT Media SPIN DOCTORS are always hard at work, and its up to the general public not to believe everything on TV.

  12. Cevidence says:

Man — something you should have added to your piece.

Everytime sports “experts” talk about Darren McFadden, someone brings up his “character issues” Now getting in trouble at 4 different clubs, yes, that can be a problem in the long run because it is obvious that things may start where he goes out. Wheter (sp) it is him starting the trouble or not…that is still to be seen. But the emphasis on “character issues” when it comes to star black players, now that is where I have a problem.

I even heard one writer, who is a BLACK MAN, claim that McFadden has character issues because he is a member of a historically african american fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, for those who don’t know. And THAT reasoning is damn pathetic and disgusting that he had the gall to say it on national TV. Its bad that no one ever picked up on it.

But here is the kicker. What is worse? McFadden and his club/fraternity issues? Or a QB who was accused of a sexual assualt, spent 7 days in jail, and had to transffer schools? If you don’t know…I’m talkin bout Hawaii’s Colt Brennan. When I first heard about that during the Hesiman special I was disgusted. Flat out.

Colt was hailed out there. I work with a guy from Hawaii and the man is damn near a god. And I dont care what you may say, but getting accused/charged and spending time in jail for sexual assualt is a LOT worse then getting into fights at clubs or FIGHTING DOGS!!!!! But is this “character issue” brought up by the media……no….

Now before you say that Colt isn’t a major draft pick. To hell with the draft, he shouldnt have been allowed to play football anymore period. The charges were eventually dropped, but how many players do you hear of being allowed to play after getting arrested, let alone spending A WEEK in jail????? I think NONE!!!!

To me…this is a major issue that I wish someone would have touched on, and should be mentioned each and every time someone say’s Colt’s name…

  13. Miranda says:

Ummmmm Cevidence….not all of the charges were dropped. Brennan is a convicted felon and just got off probation in December.

  14. mizzo says:

They will AXG if there isn’t a conscious and intelligent alternative. As far as Colt…

    They see their sons….

  15. origin says:

Davidmac…………..man you got to be smoking crack or something.

Brotha Cevidence you got to be joking, so being a Kappa is now like being a thug.

Man these uncle toms and Good old boys won’t stop. Next they will say a frat brand is a gang sign.

So Colt Brennan did what. Thanks brotha I’m about to spread the word. Like I said the NFL ain’t nothing but the good ole boy league.

Hey you guys remember about 3 years ago there was a white player on the Utah State mens basketball team that did like 5 years for rape. Then when he was released he inrolled at UT and got bsketball scholarship. He then played like 3 years there. The media didn’t say a thing. Let me see if I can find the link.

  16. Cevidence says:

Nah you’re right Miranda. I thought all of the charges got dropped but my mistake.

He was found guilty of trespassing and felony burglary. The sexual assault charges were dropped due to “lack of evidence.” Thanks for that correction. But again I ask the question — how many convicted criminals, on probation, are allowed to play college football, win all the damn awards he has won, be a Heisman candidate and now have a solid chance at making millions in the NFL? I’m going to guess that the answer is VERY VERY VERY low….

  17. HarveyDent says:

The Devil sure is a busy man.

This is the ‘Makes you go hmmm’ article because of the obviousness of the answers to the questions raised. The one thing that sticks in my craw is that there’s clearly collusion going on in the case of Barry Bonds but the media is doing everything it can to bury that story by saying teams don’t want the added distraction of bringing the so-called circus atmosphere that comes with Bonds. This was clearly brought home to me when a graphic of the homerun leaders was flashed and it showed that he was only six homers ahead of Aaron because seeing Bonds play last season was not like watching a player struggle to reach the record. The man can still play at a high level and MLB is selling the fans a bill of goods by whiteballing this guy.

  18. thebrotherreport says:

DMac – Riley has 5 rings — what does that have to do with leaving your team hanging?

What Andre Woodson are you watching, where did he run to to gain minus 490 yards for his career.

As far as your comment on Tennessee’s Erick Ainge being the best QB in the draft, I disagree. Before his injury Oregon’s Dennis Dixon was a first-round pick and had the Heisman locked up.

  19. DavidMac says:

    TBR

Riley gets a pass because he was actually been successful as a Coach/GM, thats why he can do what he does.

Andre Woodson ran a great deal, lets not deny it. He just ran backwards. He is mobile but he needs to be coached on how to use that mobility productively.

Dixon was good in a spread offense and in college, we are talking about getting drafted in the NFL. Dixon was never and is never going to be a great NFL QB because he was not trained to be one. Ainge was, he has great accuracy, throwing motion, and arm strength. He was coached by the QB coach who has had a Super Bowl MVP QB in the last 2 out of 3 Super Bowls. Ainge is being slept on, whoever picks him up is going to get a great QB for the future.

  20. thebrotherreport says:

    We’ll see.

  21. Cevidence says:

Did anyone see the preview of the E60 piece that Michael Smith did on Darren McFadden. It explains a lot of the so called “character issues” he may or may not have. A good look at the football player as a man.

  22. mizzo says:

I definitely want to check that out and the Tejada segment as well.

  23. DavidMac says:

I saw a portion of that Migeul Teheda segment. That cat is wild. 2 years older than what he is, Tejada not even being his last name. Great tv.

  24. CEvidence says:

I honestly think that Tejada junk is bogus news. That whole segment is something straight out of the Fox News sorry journalism handbook.

If it was something serious, like catching a big name/big time player on using steriods with hardcore evidence, like a signed reciept or something; then yeah, spring it on him. Still not great journalism, but it has a good purposed. “Busting” him for lying on his age for two years….please…that’s bogus…

Like Steve Phillips said, that crap is a joke. When he realized one of his players was 4 years older, they gave him 4 birthday cakes at once and got on with life, making a big joke out of it. This Tejada story is SOOOOO minor it should not even be getting any play time. There is SO much more than can be talked about and more pertinent to sports.

  25. DavidMac says:

Fox News has some of the best journalism practices for any news network on tv, that is probably why they are the most neutral news reporting channel on US tv.

That is a nice compliment for ESPN.

On topic, I agree the Tejada story is not important, but it is entertaining, just because of how he acts in the interview. “I just play baseball mane, I just play baseball, I’m gone” LOL.

  26. CEvidence says:

Fox News as neutral…..ha…yeah ok. I’ve been a journalist for 4 years and trust, Fox News is as far from neutral as you can get. From the bias in their panels, to the glittering generalities (sp) they use, the whole network is VERY one sided. They may throw something in there from time to time to make it seem different. But I’ve NEVER found any professor or professional co worker that will call Fox news neutral.

I can give you numerous examples of the shotty journalism work that they do if you would like. It SUCKS that they are so highly rated with viewers, but hey, what are ya gonna do?

And Tejada’s response was funny…I’ll agree to that much. I got a good laugh out of it….
