We are approaching the homestretch of the 2008 NFL Mock Draft. Today we have Seattle, Jacksonville, San Diego and Dallas selecting.

Let’s get rollin’ Seattle is on the clock…

What do the Seahawks need?

  • Offensive Line

  • Running Back

  • Wide Receiver

  • Defensive Tackle

What will they do?

The signing of running back Julius Jones indicates that the Seahawks are slowly pulling the curtain on the career of Shawn Alexander in Seattle. Alexander has not been the same since the 2005 season, when he won MVP honors and the Seahawks earned a Super Bowl berth. After starting 10 games in each of the last 2 seasons, I expect Alexander to be released before or during training camp. This doesn’t mean that Julius Jones is the answer, but a change of scenery may be good for the former Cowboy. The Hawks could draft a back for the future making backup Maurice Morris expandable in an already crowded backfield (Alexander, Morris, Jones and T.J. Duckett)

The Pick: Seattle could also use a pick on a wide receiver to push receivers Nate Burleson and Deion Branch for playing time. The Seahawks never really replaced guard Steve Hutchinson — which injuries aside, is a big reason why the run game has suffered. Defensive tackle is a position of concern due to injuries and inconsistent play. Seattle may trade down with a team that is looking to grab an available QB with the 25th pick.

I like Felix Jones with this pick, he’s an explosive runner between the tackles and can get to the outside, is an excellent receiver out of the backfield and can add a different dimension in the kick return game.

What do the Jaguars need?

  • Defensive Tackle
  • Safety
  • Offensive Tackle
  • Wide Receiver

What will they do?

The Jaguars dealt defensive tackle Marcus Stroud to the the Buffalo Bills in the opening days of free agency, breaking up one of the most dominant defensive tackle duos in recent memory. It’s obvious that head coach Jack Del Rio is in the hunt for Stroud’s replacement. In a draft that’s fairly deep at DT, the Jags can package a second and one of their 3rd round picks to move up in the second round to grab a DT or safety. Miami’s Kenny Phillips is still on the board and would be able to start immediately.

The Pick: It would be nice if Kenny Phillips were available this late –he may be he may not. At any rate the Jaguars are looking to make a Super Bowl run, they have locked up QB David Garrard and given him some nice young receivers to work with. The Jags have taken pride in being stout against the run, I don’t see them backing up on that now.

Kentwan Balmer has established himself the solid #3 defensive tackle in the draft behind Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis. At 6′5″ 305 lbs, he has played both end and tackle and should work well lining up next to John Henderson. Balmer has displayed the ability disrupt the passing lanes and is excellent in pursuit.

What do the Chargers need?

  • Safety
  • Offensive Tackle
  • Defensive Tackle
  • Running Back

What will they do?

The Chargers don’t really have a glaring need so they will be primarily drafting for depth. After their first selection the Chargers don’t pick again until the 5th round, where they have 2 picks. Trading their first pick is an option that they may want to consider.

The Pick: I believe that the Chargers will trade out of the first round and draft for depth, but not to disappoint those who want to see a selection here…

The University of Miami’s Kenny Phillips would give the Chargers one of the tallest and most aggressive secondaries in the NFL. Known for his instinctive play, Phillips plays exceptionally well against the pass or the run. His physical play fits in well with the ball hawking abilities of Antonio Cromartie and Quentin Jammer.

What do the Cowboys need?

  • Wide Receiver
  • Running Back

What will they do?

The Cowboys are back with the 28th pick and are looking for either a running back or wide receiver. They can trade this pick for a high second round choice or stand pat. Looking at a defensive end with this pick wouldn’t hurt either.

The Pick: While there are still some good backs left on the board, there are also some wideouts that can help the Cowboys, who can’t rely on Terry Glenn going a full 16 games.

Florida’s Andre Caldwell may be the steal of the first round if he falls this late. He’s a flat-out burner that can open up the Poke’s offense even more. With Caldwell wearing a Star, Tony Romo has another deep ball threat besides Patrick Crayton.

I clicked on the link and I saw who was # 10 and I haven’t looked any further.

  3. thebrotherreport Says:

I wouldn’t say Ki-Jana Carter was a bad pick as much as it was bad luck. I mean he blew his knee out in his first pro series, and he was never the same after that.

A blown out knee even 10-12 years ago was a death sentence for a back. Now technology is so much better, if it were to happen today he would have a better chance of resuming a decent career.

  4. DavidMac Says:

    What a bogus ass list.

  5. thebrotherreport Says:

So David Klingler had a better career than Vick?!?!?!? Ditto Rick Mirer. Ok the list is of #1 overall picks but still, this is some junk.

  6. origin Says:

    Couldn’t agree more David.

Hey Brotherreport…………..how many pro bowls did David carr go to.??? And did he lead his team to a conference championship???

Nope and nope…………..but some how Vick is a bust.

  7. thebrotherreport Says:

  8. mizzo Says:

Fellas the legend will become fact if we let it. Imagine if OJ was playing now.

  9. thebrotherreport Says:

He’d get death threats every game.

  10. Okori Says:

do you mean if OJ pre-case or post-case? Vague Mizzo= bad mizzo.

and no. 10 bust amongst #1 draft picks is Vick? Seriously? Like.. ok that is just ridiculous.

  11. Mizzo Says:

Okori some things are obvious and don’t need a response.

  12. Okori Says:

not to me it wasn’t. perhaps 3 audits, back-to-back-to-back, are wearing my mind down to a fine nub.

  13. Dallas Cowboys Says:

The Cowboys need to ignore all the hype and just go out and play football.. one game at a time.
