Don’t talk smack J.R. when Kobe is on fire and your team is getting blown out

Los Angeles 122, Denver 107

Lakers lead Denver 2-0

Kobe Bryant was one point away from becoming just the fourth player in NBA history with a 50 point/10 assist game–a feat I call the +70. LeBron James had one this year against the Knicks, Stephon Marbury did it with the Suns and then you have to go back to 1975 when Kareem Abdul Jabbar accomplished the feat with 50 points/15 boards/11 assists.

He once again proves he’s the current king of the NBA stage. He was 2 points shy of tying Elgin Baylor’s 1961 playoff record of 22 points in the first quarter. He had 19 in the fourth and at one time hit 10 straight shots.

J.R. Smith had 21 points and had the temerity to talk trash with Kobe as he approached the 50 point mark. Kobe was entertaining the fans and I guess he took exception.

Kenyon Martin was doing the same as well.

How about playing some D?

Allen Iverson put up 31 points. He’s second in NBA history behind Michael Jordan and averages 30 points a game in the playoffs during his career.

Melo had 23 in the loss.

Denver seemed to lose their cool at the end. Maybe it was because they had no answer for Bryant who almost outscored Iverson and Melo himself.

Paul Gasol had 18 and 10. Luke Walton 18, 7 and 5.

Coby Karl entered the game in the fourth. It was the first time a father coached against his son in a playoff game.

Hopefully the Nuggets will go back home, sleep in their own bed and play some damn defense.

Marcus Camby, who had 6 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks , can’t do it alone

KG wins the Defensive Player of the Year award

Boston 96, Atlanta 77

I don’t know Co Co…

Sup with your boys? At least we got a win. The Reverend is gonna give it to you the next time you appear on his radio program fo sho. ;)

The Hawks had no one score over 13 and are limping back to Phillips down 2-0. They are getting physical with the C’s and just ask Paul Pierce how that feels. He and Joe Johnson put the smash on him to prevent him from scoring an easy bucket.

No layups.

The media is making a big deal out of Mike Bibby’s comments that Boston has fair weather fans.

I guess the truth hurts.

Bibby scored just 12 points and had to endure a bunch of bs from the fans.

KG had 19 and 10, Ray Allen had 15, Paul Pierce had 14. Rajon Rando added 12 and 8.

Could this be a sweep?

Baby Elton Brand had 9 and 8 boards. Marvin Williams and Josh Smith each had 13 and Joe Johnson a gotta get more 11.

I hope the Hawks make more of this series. They are too talented not to get one of these next too games.

It’s about pride now, and we shall see how they respond.

  1. Since this article begins with Kobe Bryant and the Lake Show, I doubt that many people will post a reply. Why…I still have not figured that out. Nevertheless, Bryant is so much fun to watch and from a pure basketball angle, the young people watching him play can learn a lot. For example, Kobe has a series of moves to get open shots, and it starts with a heck of a shot fake.

These are great times to be a basketball fan, when you can watch one of the BEST players of his time as well as BEST of ALL TIME.

  2. Diallo says:

    JR Smith. You hella dumb-da-dumb-dumb:)

  3. michelle says:

Kobe is all that and a chip factory!

  4. Will says:

Why do you call it the +70?

  5. Mizzo says:

    50 points + 10 assists = +70

Kobe to a lesser extent because he’s getting up there in age (not doubting his talent obviously) but LeBron is going to make this stat vogue.

  6. Will says:

    Uhhhh 50+10=60. I still don’t get it.

  7. Mizzo says:

    10 assists equal 20 points.

  8. Will says:

That’s what I was thinking, but can’t you get an assist for passing it to someone who then makes a 3?

  9. Mizzo says:

    That’s why it’s +70

    56 and 10 is a +70 etc.
