The lady version of Kobe Bryant?
Candace Parker began the first day of her professional career on Saturday, May 3, 2008. The significance of this date will play out years from now, as the WNBA is looking towards a bright future behind the play of rookies, Candace Parker, Candice Wiggins, Sylvia Fowles, Essence Carson, and Crystal Langhorne.
In her first professional game (preseason) against the Atlanta Dream, Parker had an impressive outing scoring 14 points, while dishing out 8 assists, and nabbing 8 rebounds.
She was in a word…impressive, most impressive, and next to superstar Lisa Leslie they looked like an early favorite to win the championship, as Leslie put up some numbers with 18 points and 7 boards in less than 20 minutes of play.
Can the Sparks win a title this year? Of course.
The league is in good hands with the aforementioned dynamic duo, however it may lead to consecutive titles by the Los Angeles Sparks, and while dynasties are normally good for sports, it remains to be seen if the WNBA will benefit after watching the Houston Comets win, with their tight grip on the league.
The WNBA All-Star game will take place in the nation’s capital on Sunday, July 15, 2008. Although it doesn’t have the same flair and fanfare as the NBA, you can count on two things: Candace Parker will be named a starter in for the Western Conference, and she will have the first dunk in WNBA All-Star game history.
Parker is known for being able to dunk as she has displayed that since her days in high school, including her win in a coed battle for dunk supremacy as a McDonald’s All-American. On a fast break in last Saturday, Lisa Leslie threw an impromptu behind the back pass to her rookie teammate. “CP3″ attempted to throw it down…however in missing, she is able to breathe a new life into the professional game, even with the errant play.
Nothing happens overnight, as many tend to shy away from women’s basketball…the only thing people can do is to keep an open mind. YES WE CAN…because change is good.
Peace, AXG

How in the hell does a b-ball post turn into more political pandering for Barry Hussein Obama. I mean that shit does not even fit.
OT:
No one will remember Candace Parkers first game or care about whether she wins a WNBA championship or starts a dynasty. It nice you are trying to force feed the WNBA down our throats, but he I feel its my duty to let you know, I for one am not interested in the inferior product, especially when the real stars of the sport are currently in the playoffs.
Where are the stories on the Hornets and Detroit going up 2 -0 against the Spurs and the Magic.
Why aren’t you all talking about why the real CP3 got cheated out of the MVP award.

There is no need to get upset. The “YES WE CAN” was a “sign of the times” as the WNBA can be used for change through Candace Parker. As for stories on the NBA, you will be more than welcome to read them as they will be posted today and tomorrow.
If you choose not to read about the WNBA, then by all means do not click on the story. I am not going to force feed anything. I happen to like all basketball.
My stories are always to build and uplift.
You have your opinion and I have mine, as variety is the spice of life kind sir.

YES WE CAN is no more a sign of the times than any campaign slogan John Kerry, McCain, or Clinton spouts out.
Also how in the hell is Candace Parker going to cause change. I don’t see Parker coming out and saying the WNBA needs to stop leeching off of the NBA and needs to support themselves. If she isn’t doing that she isn’t causing any change, she is just going along with the status quo.
I read the article because I was hoping I might see a nice pic of Parker out of it, but I ended up disappointed on that front.
It is great that your stories build and uplift, I don’t have problem with you building and uplifting you subjects, but hey like they say its the squeaky whell that gets the grease. If I don’t like the article I’ll tell the author and I’ll tell you why I don’t like it, if you can’t deal with that tough.
I still don’t understand why this site isn’t keeping up with any of the real news in sports though. You have the Marvin Harrison shooting, great NBA playoff storyline, and you choose to write about a 4th tier sport, yep under Poker, and try to act like a marginally fine chick is going to make it popular because she can dunk.
Give me a break.

If we don’t talk about it, then who will.
If you don’t like the content here then shoot your mouth somewhere else.
DMac you are a clown. We’ve been covering the playoffs ad nauseum here. In fact I’m about to post some notes now. Go head with that bama ass bullshit.

DavidMac, I welcome and appreciate your opinion. I have a MVP story that will go up tomorrow as for Marvin Harrison, that took place in my neighborhood, and I choose not to write about the mishaps of my once great city.
I hope that was enough of the break that you asked me to give you?

AG that’s why you are my boy.
My patience has worn thin with the cat.
He wants his sports news fed to him in the baby chair rockin’ his I love mommy bib to catch everything that falls out of his mouth.
It’s not all about you dude.

Oh…nice piece my brotha.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Candace is nice don’t get me wrong but CP3 belongs to Chris Paul.
And i hope she does well in LA and wins a few ‘chips but let’s not assume she will do all of that. She could be a bust.
And Mizz… where’s the Kenny Monday Interview, and Pt. 3 of the Justice B. Hill thing?
May 6th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Mizzo, why are you crying about me. I was not talking to you. You should take a note from Anthony Gilbert about how you can discuss things in a reasonable manner without attacking people. To think you are like 40+ with a kid, I’m shocked.

SOMEBODY PLEASE COUNT TO 10!!!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
I’m working hard as I can Okori to get those up.
DMac you have attacked people from day one here and frankly I’m tired of it.
You discuss…we’ll discuss but I’m not trying to hear your BS anymore if you can’t come logical.
I apologize for the tenor of my words, but….
Leave my children out of it. I never said anything about your family…and I won’t.

whoohoo! I would wheel over a big tray of my cheese enchiladas, but you might not be heard from for a week. gooey cheddar cheese, fresh warm soft corn tortillas, green poblano chiles, and homemade red chili sauce.

Completely sexist but that young gal would get it every day but anyway…I haven’t paid real attention to the WNBA since Coop’s days with Swoopes and Thompson on the Comets but I will keep an eye on Ms. Parker because she will be a breath of fresh air to that league along with the other top flight rookies coming in this season. As you said, AXG, things take time and this won’t happen overnight but I’m excited and that’s not a bad thing.

Is Jolly Nigger Dave a homosexual? Not that there’s anything wrong with this, but that’s three posts on Candace Parker spread across two different websites, and yet there is the Jolly Nigger right on time every time to spew his peculiar brand of chauvinist hatred.
Oh wait, you don’t have to be gay to be sexist. My bad.
And he has the nerve to want somoeone to reason with him? Umm, when’s the last time anybody ever reasoned with a complete idiot? Never? Sounds about right.
I know one thing: if the Jolly Nigger ever got ’round my own daughter spewing any of that ass-backward country ‘Bama barefoot and pregnant just fuck me and fix me a sandwich horny toad with rosy palms bullshit… well I don’t know what I’d do. Yes I do, I’s split his wig like a piece of muhfuckin cabbage.
Ayo Jolly Nigger Dave: please stay away from all that is young, gifted, Black, and female! You are completely unworthy.

Damn, I was really enjoying AG’s article all the while saying to myself “I really hope that DMac doesn’t hijack this thread again” (repeated 3 times over). I bet that not one single mainstream website covered the first preseason game (I could be wrong) and TSF covers it and your still hating. With the gazillion stories about men, why do you have to get all fucked up if women get a crumb here or there. Seriously…
Anyway, AG, thanks for keeping this up somewhere. The WNBA WILL get bigger… but some can only see change after it occurs…

Wow MODI! Thank you very much, and while a certain someone keeps trying to spoil what I write, it makes me feel good that you can appreciate my effort to tell it like it is.
May 9th, 2008 at 12:35 am
most definitely…
Also, I’ve realized that I have also been part of the problem here, I have decided to get some tickets to some Mystic games (I live in Silver Spring) this year and will report on some…
May 9th, 2008 at 1:48 am
Sounds like a plan MODI, and Candace Parker will be in DC at the end of this month. It should be a good look.
