Had Cheeks given Doc that ball I can't imagine what kind of dunk we would've seen but it would've been one of the greatest finishes to a championship game.

That Ainge/Rollins scrap was classic everyone thought that Ainge bit Tree on the finger but it was the other way around. It was a shame the way the Bad Boyz rented space in Scottie Pippen's head when the game seemed the biggest.

Ron good stuff here brothaman. My chest poked out as I read this. Way to take us back. AXG texted me and Game 4 of the 83 series is on ESPN Classic as I type. Great memory for me. I asked Mo why didn't he pass to Doc on the last bucket and he said he didn't see him sarcastically. He did say that if he had to do it all over again he would give Doc the ball. That's something I've always wanted to ask him.

I miss the throwdowns when players manned up and took theirs.

One other thing. Anybody else miss the playoff throwdowns they used to have in the NBA? I'm not saying the NBA should be the NHL but I miss the fact that big men, little men, swingmen would go at each other when it came championship time. Danny Ainge scrappin' with Tree Rollns? Damn. When Bird got into it with Laimbeer. Classic. And what happened after the fights? Double technical, wipe up the sweat, and inbounds from the side. None of this fine and suspension stuff that's really neutered the game IMO.

Hiccup??? Are you kidding, talk to some of your "basketball purists" and find out what they have to say about this '83 team and how they match up with teams from that '78-'91 stretch that you speak of.

Don't feel for us, your Vikings traded away one of the NFL's greatest wide receivers, the Twins got rid of baseball's best pitcher and the Wolves traded one of the NBA's greatest power forwards in a 3-year span. And they lost the NorthStars to Dallas. You're right y'all don't give a damn about sports, not like we do anyway.

How's the Ice Fishing this time of year.

I was born in January of '83 so needless to say I don't remember this. I do however have a thirst for what basketball purists call the Golden Age of NBA basketball. Post image/drug problems, pre Jordan. I'd say between '78 and '91. The Bird/Magic/Isaiah glory days had one major hiccup and that was this Sixers team. Being from Minnesota all we really have is the Twins win it comes to titles. Our last pro sports title was in '91 and there doesn't really seem to be much urgency to get over the hump to win another one. Minnesota nice is completely different from hard core Philly sports fanatics who seems to die a little with each additional title-less season. I feel for you guys. I really do. Good read though.

Great read. I was a lot younger than you, so my memory of that championship is not as vivid. However I appreciate you writing this, and shedding some light on the Championship of '83.

And yes the 23 on a hot day is never a good look!
