NFL Rookies, Meet Cris Carter: Class Is In Session

Nothing is more moving to me than an emotional speech. It can come from the pulpit or from the steps of Canton, Ohio (see Michael Irvin, 2007) whatever the case the effect is much greater when it comes from someone who’s been through it, to get to it.

Cris Carter has been there and back, he is one of my all-time favorite people to come through the NFL. In 2009, he WILL be giving his induction speech on the steps of the Canton. Ohio.
But on this day he was speaking to the 2008 NFL Rookie class, sounds like he’s just getting warmed up for Canton.

That was a nice find. Cris Carter was a spectacular receiver. He was excellent at every facet of the position - from top to bottom. He’s a powerful personality.
One thing that strikes me as interesting with guys like him and Sterling Sharpe and Michael Irvin is that they are such forceful leaders, a coach would have to be a FOOOOOL to try to undermine their leadership. This idea that leadership in football has to come from the QB position is just flawed. Sometimes it has to come from there - sometimes it doesn’t.
