Elton Brand To Philly Virtually a Done Deal; Brandon Jennings To Bypass College and Play In Europe

Deal can’t be announced until 12:00 am Wednesday
The Sixers traded Rodney Carney (my man who sacrificed playing time this year for the team) a 2009 first round pick (Kyle Korver deal to Utah) and Calvin Booth to free up space to go after Brand. The deal would pay Brand 82 million over 5 years. Golden State could have paid upwards to 95 million and the Clippers signed Baron Davis to give Brand the dynamic player he needed.
Oh well, LA…
I know Boom Dizzle is hot! Damn…dude signed with the Clips! I know of one person who doesn’t have any sympathy for Baron, but I kinda feel for the brotha in this instance. He just wants to win.
As a Sixers fan, I’m not hype. Honestly, I rather would have brought in Josh Smith because of his youth and upside. You can’t blame me for not falling in love with this move considering Brand has missed a lot of time recently. We ain’t won shit here since Barkley was a big boy at Auburn. Elton, can’t wait to welcome you here next year, but you gotta bring 22 and 12 with you every single night and back up Black Pharoah in the All Star game. Of course, I love Elton Brand as a player. Don’t get it twisted, but I just want dude to be healthy.
I pray this works out.

Dude’s game is NY shifty and he’s left handed. This is one cat I hope makes it big
A very interesting decision was made by Brandon Jennings, the number one PG recruit (Arizona), to bypass college (1 and done) and play in Europe. Sonny Vaccaro, of Adidas fame, is Jennings’ adviser and there seems to be a lot of interest in Jennings overseas. Jennings is also looking to secure a shoe deal in the process and reportedly make 6 figures.
Will others follow suit–which would most likely wreck the college game as we know it?
Question: Would you as a youngsta play in college one year–attending classes for a semester–or travel the European countryside until you meet the NBA eligibility requirement of 1 year removed from your high school graduating class?

There is now a shift in power in the East. Life after Iverson could only get better and every year it has.

Aint karma a beotch…

HA!!! Just saw this on ESPN and came right over to potentially taunt you if you weren’t on top of your Philly game!!! But there will be no taunting tonight mizzo..
Gotta say though, your reaction was a bit of a downer… a little too thoughtful… a little too intellectual. If my Knicks just traded for Brand, I’d be dancing in the freakin street right now and worry about Brand’s injury after it came…
July 9th, 2008 at 8:32 am
Modi you know how we do here…
Is this what you want to hear?
I was on 610 radio discussing Brand’s signing last night. I’ll go out on a limb and say the Sixers will finish second in the conference next season.
Hear me out: With the core talent the Sixers have, if they can secure a shooter they will be hard to handle. Even with the subtraction of Carney from the second team, Lou Willilams and Co. will murder teams looking to rest their starters.
Elton Brand is the most important signing in Philly since Moses Malone. If the Sixers keep Iggy–and they should–all the reasons why they lost to Detroit become idiosyncratic.
Brand will make things very interesting in the East with his low post presence and give the Sixers a stopper down the stretch of games that the Sixers lost last season.
Watch his play this season and notice the leadership he’ll bring to the Sixers. I can see all the high fiving now when Brand bangs it on Kendric Perkins head late in a close game in Philly.
The Eastern Conference is now on notice.
I implore you…don’t sleep.
Stefanski is a beast. He’s become an incredible GM move wise since leaving Jerz.
Depending on what happens to Detroit–who has played a lot of games the last 6 years–I see the Sixers bursting up the ladder with exuberant and steady play.
Iggy is going to learn a lot about himself this season. If he does his job on both ends of the floor, this team will be a force come June.
I ain’t crazy people…watch me.

This was an outstanding move by Philly and now teams will really have their hands full when they play them. If you look at their lineup, there are potential match-up problems at damn near every position. (What if Lou Williams matures and become a starter this season?) Philly could be a scary team next year, right mizz?
But…. if they don’t get a couple of shooters and learn how to play defense for 48 mins, they’ll be one and done come playoff time.
I guess this means that the Hawks will probably re-sign both Josh Smith and Childress.
July 9th, 2008 at 11:30 am
Okay, more like it!!! I was just looking for mizzo the fan for a quick second before mizzo the NBA writer. Had you even said: “this team will be a force in June. I ain’t crazy people…watch me!” that would have worked.
Anyway, I agree about the need for a shooter. Now especially with Brand, you got to space the floor… and between Brand and Dalembert you guys might own the offensive glass as if Moses were still around… should be a lot of fun…

I’m excited about the signing and hopeful that there will be one more addition to solidify the bench more than likely a shooter.
Brand is a back to the basket player that will really help the 76ers’ half court game especially in the playoffs when the game slows down.
Michael House, Brent Barry, and Bobby Jackson are options, I’ve gotta scour the wire for more names.
I heard that they may be looking for a starting shooting guard that would come through a sign and trade involving Andre Iguodala.
Joe Johnson, Michael Redd - Can you hear me knockin’?
July 9th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
And Baron Davis must be sick right now.
He lost 2 teammates in a matter of minutes. He would’ve been better off in Golden State.
July 9th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Michael Redd would be perfect. I love Joe Johnson’s game but would he be a good fit?
Keep Iggy. I wanna see how he develops.
Yo I’m going to sleep. This night job is a beeeeast.
Ron hit me up later.
July 9th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
I’m with keeping Iggy - less pressure on him. Especially if we can get some decent bench help.
I’ll holla later.
July 9th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
Is it too late for Baron to pull an Artest, and make a 100 degree turnaround?
July 9th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
I think it is. The remainder of his career changed in a week. That’s crazy.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
This is definitely what the Sixers needed…but on another note, what is up with these Duke players?
Duhon - robbing the Knicks
Boozer - lied to a blind man and walked
Brand - lied to a sorry franchise and walked
Jay Will - lied to the Bulls
haha just somethin I thought about

Jacobs is being honest with himself and who ever adivised him I think did the right thing. Work on your game all year round, come back with some cash and a season of playing with men.
AND giving the college plantation the finger.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
I don’t think too many people realize the impact of what he’s done. There’s nothing the NBA and David Stern can do about it. His talent at 18 is allowing him to see a world outside of his own and he’s gettin paid for it. I hope it works out for him and I wish him well.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Overnight this Brandon Jennings has become a pioneer for stellar student athletes that don’t want to deal with the NCAA Ruling or the temptation of hooking up with the wrong people while at school. If anything they are improving their chances while honing their skills.
July 9th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Same here thebrotherreport I wish the young brotha well.
July 9th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
I asked this question at SOMM and I’ll ask it here, too: are “student-athletes” like Jennings the only ones who go to “elite” “prep” schools, but still can’t passd the SAT? No disrespect to young Mr Jennings, but would Oak Hill accept that outcome from any other (non bball playing, non-revenue generating) student of theirs?
Re: Brand
Why is he not catching the hell that Carl Boozer caught when he pulled the same shit a few years ago? Are the Clippers and that racist Donald Sterling that irrelevant?
July 9th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
TLP - I don’t think Brand made any kind of committment to the Clippers like Boozer did the Cavs.
Boozer told the Cavs that he would sign the deal proposed to him if they let him out of his current deal. Once the Cavs eliminated the final year of the deal Utah made their move.
Reportedly, Brand and agent David Falk made no committments and stopped answering the Clippers calls days ago.
July 9th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Yes, the Clippers and Donald Sterling are that irrelevant.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
I just heard that Corey Maggette signed with the Warriors. I thought for certain he’d go with the Spurs.
Also, will Cleveland do anything this off-season to help prevent Lebron from jumping ship to the Nets?
July 10th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
I heard that Sterling gave Brand a take it or leave it offer. Fuck him then. If I am signing for less money, that’s because I am seeking peace of mind. Baron Davis is…how do the French say it? He is fucked!
And Lebron is set to go hang with Jay Z.
July 10th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
If you want to win, signing with the Los Angeles Clippers is the absolute STUPIDEST SHIT you could ever do. It’s patently absurd. It’s ridiculous and it’s not defensible.
Any idiot over the age of five knows the Clippers do not care about winning. It would be like signing a big contract with the Detroit Lions and talking about the Super Bowl. You’d be a Dumb Ass in Cleats.
Stupid is as stupid does. Run Forrest, run!!

sho’ nuff your right! LMBAO!
July 10th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
There was a really good article written by Jemele Hill about the possible pitfalls of this.
July 11th, 2008 at 12:18 am
Brandon Jennings was all set and ready to go to the University of Arizona. Then, he failed his SAT. Then he failed it again. Then he took it a third time. Does this sound like the actions of a man who was dead set on flying off to Europe to begin a professional career? No. It sounds like the act of an illiterate moron who was embarrassed as hell that he was too stupid to pass a simple college entrance exam. If BlowJob intended to go to Europe, then he shouldn’t have fucked over a major college program in the process. Remember these facts the next time you are compelled to treat this jughead like a basketball variant of Curt Flood.

Boy davemac or hasani you get dumber everytime you change our name.
Anyway he still could have went to JCO but why??? Still 300K is better then nothing.
Seems like a smart young man to me. Plus the dollar is weak.
Very smart young man.
July 11th, 2008 at 6:50 am
Just to emphasize how paranoid and ignorant some of you are, allow me to point out that I am not “davemac” or “David Mac.” I do see from some old blogs that you had a house honkey by that name hanging around here, but I ain’t him.
July 11th, 2008 at 7:55 am
So what. You still suck
July 11th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
I expect certain things when I come to TSF.
I expect Mizzo to lace every interview he has ever done with a literal forest of youtube links which I cannot watch because most of my posting is done while I am at work.
I also expect morons like Shaska or this one here (who I am calling Koko B. Stupid) to not understand the point.
Let me explain this. Brandon Jennings made a choice because of a rule. It’s not because he’s not smart enough, and you do not want to get me started on the inherent cultural biases in the SATS. But nonetheless he decided that he would go to Europe, get actual spending money that he wouldn’t have to hide from people, and up his level of competition in the process. Is it a risk? Yeah. If he gets exposed as not a great player it’s a problem. If he has a horrible year adjusting to the culture shock, and speaking a foreign language, it’s a worse problem.
But if he can dominate the league he plays in he improves his draft status, while learning about foreign cultures and maybe learning to speak a different language, it’s great. I hope it works out for him.
July 11th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
He found a loophole and went through it. This young man will come back more well-rounded than most of the kids in his graduating class going onto college.
Simply put, how much better can it get than being 18 getting paid to play a sport that you love and seeing the world in the process.
