The Race Of Sports

Charlie Hustle?

Perhaps I’m a bit confused.

Or a bit bewildered.

I get the fact that Pete Rose tried hard and went hard all the time. He slid into first base and ran out infield hits to get singles and things of the nature.

But that man’s moniker was Charlie Hustle???

I’m perceiving more and more things as I live out this life and I’m noticing that white athletes get some very beneficial treatment.

I was reading a piece that talked about Kevin Love. The guy that is perceived as “not all that athletic” by some. The article mentioned him as a “hustling favorite of Kevin McHale’s”.

I mean, maybe I’m looking too much into this thing, but would it have been cool to just say Kevin McHale liked him as a player? Besides, in his season at UCLA, I didn’t see Love going over the top for loose balls and things of the sort anyway. Just seemed to me to be a not-so-slick way to get a generous comment in there about a good white basketball player.

Since we’re talking about NBA rooks, another one is Joe Alexander. I saw him make Roy Hibbert fall with a yo-yo move. I saw him dunk on occasions and show athleticism. But you would’ve thought my man was the next coming of Vince Carter with the way some people describe him.

I’ve heard him described as “a tireless worker” and that he “will be the last to leave the gym.”

I’m going to ask a blatant question and would love to hear it from my TSF fam straight.

Is it always hard work for white guys and natural ability for Blacks?

Jeff Garcia was pumped up as this feisty, hard-working, fiery leader, while Donovan McNabb has always been considered a “great natural athlete.”

This pisses me off because D-Nice is known for holding his annual summer workouts in the Arizona heat, and he’s a 245-pound phenom at QB and that’s all God-given???

The one that heats me up the most is Tim Tebow, the University of Florida QB.

Granted, maybe I’m hatin because my man Chris Leak was National Player of the Year coming out of high school, played under at least three offensive systems in college and STILL won a National Championship as the STARTER on that team. He broke many of Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel’s records at UF, including the mark for most passing yards in a career. Yet, Leak was overlooked as Tebow got the shine.

And since when was it cool for a quarterback to have a legitimate running dimension and not be labeled as a scrambler who lacks proper mechanics?

Mike Vick, Vince Young, Donovan McNabb, Brad Smith, Leak, Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, Antwaan Randle-El, Michael Robinson…I could really go on for days.

But not Tebow.

Tell me there’s not a racial divide in sports.

I got now…

nothing is in your imagination T-Time…

…and my I suggest that you bypass watching all North Carolina games next year and all Tyler Hansbrough articles…

  3. Miranda Says:

    This was just rhetorical….right?

  4. sankofa Says:

Let me hijack your post to ask your opinion of Michael Vick’s filing bankruptcy protection. Wise heads over stand the necessity of that move, but the yahoos over at yahoo and the other racist media are having group argasims over this. I can evern hear the people over at “dog lover/people hater central” is having another hot dog in celebration.

  5. origin Says:

    You ain’t never lied Sankofa.

How many times did Donald trump file bankruptcy.

Anyway perfect example………..farve throws a pick….heck throws 6 picks in a game. He is just having fun, it was the WR fault. He is a gun slinger.

Manning throws 5 picks in a game. All his WRs are hurt, what can he do.

Mcnabb, Kordell, moon………he!! any black QB over the last 30 years throws a pick (heck just one pick).

He really needs to learn how to read defenses. He has accuracy problems. He isn’t trusting what he is reading. He needs to study film more.

Then the GOB fans pile on and say convert him to a WR, RB, KR and CB. Even if the dude runs a 5.0 forty yard dash.

Ahhh race and sports go hand and hand like apple pie and America. Peanut Butter and Jelly.

  6. TheLastPoet Says:

When white people talk about themselves as ones who have to work really really hard just to keep up with every other person of color, and likewise talk about me (a Black man) like I’m a gift from God, well… I tend to agree with them.

I certainly understand your complaint about the constant drivel over white athletes who “think the game” versus Black athletes who just play it. But even here we have the advantage as soon as we recognize the indisputable fact that superior physical ability must be derived from and directed by mental ability that is equally superior. For example, I can remember reading somewhere about Allen Iverson who, rather than practice (”we talkin bout practice???”) would mentally rehearse the moves he wanted to do, and then he would go out and do them in a game.

Now tell me, can Tyler muhfuckin Hansbrough do that?

  7. Nick Renkoski Says:

It’s a tale as old as time, my friend. Willie Mays was a “intinctual, God-bless athlete,” who “couldn’t help” but be amazing. Rubbish, Willie Mays was one of the smartest ball players of all time. Any person who can play sports at it’s highest level must possess physical gifts that others do not but only very few can rely exclusively on them and none of them are great players.

A couple of years ago, MLB did a contest where fans voted on 9 players at each position that “played the game the right way” i.e. showed heart, hustled, got more out of their talent. All 9, every single one of them, was whiter than a party at Strom Thurman’s house. If that doesn’t tell you something, I don’t know what would. David Eckstein was a hero in St. Louis and Ronnie Belliard was a lazy thug, yet they had nearly identical stats. That’s how it’s always been. The great white hope lives on.

Thanks for the shout out to one of my favorite all-time college players and fellow Missouri grad, Brad Smith. Watching No. 16 helm the Tigers for 4 years was a joy. And now HE’S been replaced in the eyes of the fans by a white guy, despite the fact that Chase Daniel’s success is directly linked to Smith’s success.

  8. Miranda Says:

I think its great that Mike Vick gets to use the same Chapter 11 to protect his assets that many many-too many to count many-corporations use to “beat the system” each and everyday. Yep Origin, Trump used Chapter 11 a couple of times to give him some breathing space when he was up to his eyeballs in debt.

  9. Hasani Says:

Pete Rose gets beneficial treatment? In case you haven’t noticed, he’s banned from entry into the Hall of Fame, Einstein. Yeah, Major League Baseball really laid out the red carpet for Pete Rose. Get real and focus this tired race rhetoric on a real issue please.

  10. origin Says:

Another point is its not just american blacks that get this athletic or lazy label. Look how black latins are perceived in the MLB.

How black European and black african players in the NBA are thought of as just being athletic but not skilled. But their white foreign counterparts are thought of as skilled and fundamentally sound.

Perfect example the website Darftexpress breaks down the upcoming NBA players. I haven’t read once in the strengths and weeknesses area. Where a black american/european or african has player been said to have a high basketball IQ…..only said to have instincts.

Yet almost every white american/european player has been said to have a high basketball IQ.

    I swear it never fails.

  11. thebrotherreport Says:

Or when a Black player opts to leave school early it has to be because of an athletic or financial hardship or some family struggle with a sick relative. But if a White playerscomes out it’s never disputed because, “It’s the right time for him.”

  12. thebrotherreport Says:

Some of the things that I read on blogs in regard to Brandon Jennings yesterday really displayed the venom and sheer hatred that exists in some people (And you could tell that the majority of them were White).

You had some people wishing that he blows out a knee, that this time next year he’ll be a non issue. Some implied that he’s in Europe because he can’t pass the SAT, one person compared him to Dexter Manley.

Gettin real tired of these crackas man!

  13. sankofa Says:

Poet, the caucasians call it “creative visualization”, visualizing scenes that creates your success. As you know an old way of utilizing the mind power to shift the universe quantumly to you favour. All the “secrets” and millionaire minds and Tony Robbins and trhink and grow rich series, allude to that.

However, when Africans do it, it’s because we are doing instinctive shit…you know like animals. TBR, yeah I read some of that bile as well, but am happy because as Malik Al Shabaz says, anything that makes the enemy upset is a good thing. Then there is his other speech about something related to chickens and Roost?

Jennings is one slave that escaped from that plantation. Incidentlaly CNN is about to do some shit about being “black” in America July 23-24th,

    http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2008/black.in.america/.

I bet they never asked folks at TSF for our imput.

  14. thebrotherreport Says:

Sankofa - I peeped the preview for that CNN special yesterday.

Of course they didn’t ask us - they only want part of the truth.

  15. origin Says:

Good post Sankofa I wonder about that CNN report. Hmmm I just never trust the mainstream media.

Anyway good to see that here is Dallas they have stop selling this mag in Walmart. I even called to speak to a manager about this 5 months ago.

Sadly this is how blacks all around the world are viewed.

“The Mexican government protested the characterizations, asserting that Americans simply do not understand Memin’s cultural significance in Mexico”

Ask your self this question, Origin.

What significance in Mexico, a country with a legacy of the Olmecs, does a knee-grow looking bafoon have except as a negative stab at a people long been in the country since the 1500’s. Then again the defense of the legacy of the Ma’afa seems to seep into every “nook” and hidden “cranny” of right thinking people’s mind.

The fact that the African-Native stock in Mexico, appears stronger than the European, yet be overlooked by the government and “popular culture”, can only be explained away as more example of down pressing the poor non-Caucasians. The lack of anger at this image by sensible people in Mexico, I see as a product of the Michael Jackson syndrome. This speaks for itself.

And I predict many with the same comprehension problem in our community will give this CNN propaganda props for tackling a “sensitive issue”.

The last people I want concerned about my sensitivity is CNN or the other bitches that run in the same pack.

Here’s an advertisment from UNICEF Germany to “Save Africa”

    http://jenbrea.typepad.com/africabeat/2007/07/a-new-campaign-.html

  18. origin Says:

So true Sankofa. With the black mexican population only being 2 mill the government and the rest of the people there could care less. Plus the 2 mill black mexicans are located deep in the southern part of the country. These people have been there since the begining of Slavery. With Mexico being a port to drop off and pick up slaves to export to the rest of South America and the carribean. Until Mexico ended slavery.

The thing is that many mexicans want to label themselves as mezitos and white. Yet a large population of them have african blood. Many of their great great grandparents did the old passed off test (Paper bag test) and passed off as other.

So yes much of this is a michael jackson complex. That why this character was made after black cubans. They saw those black cubans and realized some of their grandparents, aunts and uncles looked just like them.

Yeap hating what they knew they were.

“Propaganda is the deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the propagandist.”

—Garth S. Jowett and Victoria O’Donnell, Propaganda and Persuasion

Why is it important educating poor African children and not feeding them?. Hell! why not teach them how to grow their own food?. Because if you teach a man/woman to fish they feed for a life time. But if you force your Eurocentric “education” on them, you have a new generation of Jason Whitlocks, er…I mean, a self hating knee-grows that is a neo slave for the Mean Machine called White Supremacy.

Mizzo…we got to get some internet T.V and a T.V. station like Al Jazeera, so we can reverse the propaganda in real time…Guerrilla style…

See how they’re pissing off the old boys network?

  20. origin Says:

Great post thebrotherreport. I saw that before. It always amazed me when black folks went to Europe and tell me that there is no racism there. Yeah whatever.

Oh and one last thing I present to you the fine group the bubble sisters from Korea.

  21. Mizzo Says:

Eff them bitches. I couldn’t watch that shit. They better not bring their asses over here.

Sankofa I hear you on that. I’m working hard everyday to make that a real possibility.

  22. Hasani Says:

Michael Jordan is *always* talked about by the white media as one of the hardest working athletes who played any sport. His gym rat mentality is so well known because, among other reasons, this racist white media you parrots are always squawking about made a point of mentioning this all the time. Jimmy Rollins was hailed last year during his MVP run as an intelligent, feisty team leader type of player, not some genetic freak of Africa. Tiger Woods is always praised for his sturdy focus and discipline.

So please, give us a break with your incredibly stupid and thoughtless racial stereotyping. The people on this forum are a 100 times worse than any white media. Take a look in the mirror.

  23. Miranda Says:

    Oh damn……here come the banjos….and the spoons….

  24. Temple3 Says:

    HASANI!!!!!!

Your Prize: One week of SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!

  25. sankofa Says:

This joker forgot the reason he was banned b4 was for the same shit Temple just highlighted. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Or maybe old sleep-n-eat Hasani, is being paid to stir up shit, ’cause no one stirs up shit for the sake of… right Dmac… er, Hasani?.

  26. T-Time Says:

Been a while and I def wanna respond to every last person who posed a question, so this will be a long post. Don’t lose me yall.

The Mizzo: I’ma keep bringing the heat until I’m in the grave , ya dig?

MODI: I will still watch UNC and see Ty Lawson tear it up and watch Wayne Ellington go back and improve his draft stock. I like Hansbrough, just not the hype machine behind him. So, I might pass on the articles.

Miranda: Nah, I’d really love to hear you unleash some of your profound intellectual genius on this post. Really.

Sankofa: Educated man. I see the necessity to buy a little breathing room for Vick. I’m glad he’s finally smartening up and using all the resources at his disposal. Now, if only he could help his little brother Marcus…
And Al-Jazeera is really pissing off The Establishment. In earnest.

Origin: I LOVE Favre. I really do. I think he’s one of the best to ever play and he is honestly having fun on the field.
That’s why I completely dig your point. Man, I’ve heard him being called a gunslinger for so long and now I’m hearing the same things about Romo. But McNabb, who has one of the lowest interception rates in NFL history, and many other Black QBs are darn near crucified when they toss a pick. Point taken and so very valid.
And I have peeped draftexpress.com way before this post, but never took notice to that. I’ll definitely take a gander.

TLP: Great addition to the post. I mean it’s more than athleticism. It’s more than just reacting. Many sports are cerebral. And the successful Black athletes have a huge cerebral database and fully utilize it.

Nick: Man, I loved Brad while he was at Mizzou. His blend of smarts and speed, along with that arm, made him so dangerous while he was in school. Now, he’s relegated to trick pays with the Jets and playing second fiddle to Daniel in Mizzou OB recent history.
PS: JEREMY MACLIN IS A PROBLEM!!!!!!!!

T3: You are hilarious…no more words necessary.

  27. T-Time Says:

    Now, Hasani:

Look, first of all, if you’re gonna disagree with me on a point that’s fine. But name calling is completely out of the question.

But IF, you choose to go that route, make it good. Call me WEB DuBois, Booker T. Washington, or Rev. King. You know, one of the true great thinkers of our time. Einstein was kind of weak.

Second, race is a “tired rhetoric?” Is gender a “tire rhetoric” also? I mean, if so, the Democratic presidential race between Barack Hussein Obama (let me say it for you) and Hilary Diane Rodham-Clinton (since we’re using middle names) wouldn’t have been that big of an issue.

Yes, Pete Rose is banned from the HOF. I mean, he bet on games he played in and managed…I mean, should they roll out the red carpet for him??????? Also, see that the home run king, yes Barry Bonds is out of a job…blacklisted, anyone????

Third, let me teach you math, I gave you 8 legitimate examples of bias against Black athletes, and you counter with Jimmy Rollins, Michael Jordan and Tiger “I’m The Best Golfer Ever” Woods…You still have 5 to name to have a legitimate argument.

And this time try to stay away from the athletes that HAVE to get their due. If you say Mike didn’t work hard or was purely athletic, you’d be discredited from knowing sports.

The same with Tiger. He’s a cerebral assassin. Sergio Garcia thanked him FIRST, not even God but Tiger, after being absent from a tourney. He’s got the PGA on lock.

They’re the best to ever do it in their respective sports. Period.

Show me some real insight, Hasani. Let’s get it in…

I GOT NOW, I DON’T CARE WHO GOT NEXT

  28. Tony Romo Says:

thanks for thea article, love Tony Romo.. he has taken the NFL and POP Culture by storm!
