Great story. Same shit been happening with Basketball Canada for years, however the crap that happened this year takes the cake. MT you should consider doing something on the Junior National Team. From having to give back their Carding money; benching the only returning player; not inviting some of the best; and the list goes on. I commend Sam on speaking out and I hope more people do the same as this is the first step in improving the program.

When Leo took over the Canadian tea, i was so upset. I didnt see him as a good coach, even his color commentary is "suspect", having his son on the team, cutting Juan Mendez, and letting Carl English shoot the ball like he thinks hes kobe, only the BALL aint going into the net. There are SO many TALENTED players in Canada, and the team the put together seem to be so sub-par. but when i heard SD was gonna be on the team, i was excited. And then, Leo does it again. Stressing one of the best defensive players in the NBA like that, im so pissed. then i see the guy barely played. See this is how poltics in Canadian basketball is. they have their favourites, and the let them do what they want. I say they need to Revamp this Canadian Team, and Develop players in their youth. We NEED Jay Triano Back.

Msg to Sam. God Bless man, you keep doing you, and Leo will understand he made a mistake. Canada Basketball is a Joke. some may good players in canada, yet, they dont play.. how come denham wasnt on the team? what about Antwi (forgot his last name) . went to henry Carr, and average over 42ppg as a point guard in toronto? there are sooo many more. Tatham from brampton, couple other players, and then theres more out west.

im pissed, enough vamping from me. Sam Didnt do anything, thats what i thought all along. and i hope the canadian media takes this reports this.
God Bless

Leo was the worst choice for our national team. He doesn't even look professional when coaching on the sideline. I'm still trying to find one coach that wears an ear ring, lol.... Anyways, my main point is we finally got a solid 5 and you boot him off the team?? Just by looking at Sammy you can tell he doesn't come across and a cancer. He looks like that player who is very proud and appreciative of the positions he is in and the type that loves to give back because he knows the hardships for some kids and families due to experience. I think having Leo R. as the head coach will destroy our national team and we'll be known as just a hockey power house, as long as he's at the helm. Sammy keep your head up, I was very happy to see you become a Canadian citizen and as a born and raised resident I will apologize for the mistreatment you received at the hands of those who don't know what they are doing. Hopefully things change and we can take it to the US team for the whole game, not just in the first half. PEACE!!

Let me tell you all a little something about Canadian Basketball. Jack Donahue, celebrated as the most successful coach in his-story, was a high school coach of one "Lew Alcinder". This ass wipe Donahue called the future hall of famer a nigger to his face. Years later he claimed he was trying to MOTIVATE the young man. Jay Triano - the current Raptors assistant coach- is by far the most accomplished and still the best player on the Canadian national Team. Was he the best to come out of Canada, NO! Jay Triano was a baller first and foremost and one of the reasons he got relieved of his coaching duties was politics. It had nothing to do with his NBA gig, a lie they put out that no one believed. Why do you think Jamaal Maglore, would never play for them, he came up in the shit-stym.

Now as far back as high school, we young cats over stood that the color of the junior team was all ways darker than the Sr. team, because Jack Donahue and the paper pushers in Basket ball Canada, didn't want guys playing "nigger ball!"

This is the same fucked up atmosphere today where the brothers have to tighten their butt checks and dance a jig, in order to get playing time with the team. The whole Canadian amateur sporting scene is such a sick joke, even the pre-dominant Caucasian sports such as Hockey and baseball is getting screwed over by them. Can you imagine, Track, basketball and soccer, sports that the Africans show up in more?

Leo Rautins only got a cup of coffee in the NBA, because he was tall and had some passing skills. He is one of those cats that use to get his ass handed to him whenever he played brothers from Toronto, during his high school days. His delusional glorifying of his skills is only topped by his unwavering and drunken belief that he in any way could be a coach. This gig was given to him, because he is willing to bend over and grab his ankles for “Team Canada.”

Based on SD’s account Leo Rautins is a dick head and SD is better off not hanging around this sinking ship. And from personal experience, the sporting scene is a little less anti-African as it was 20-30 years ago, but it is still anti-African and anti-common sense…. so Fuck them all!

Good stuff Mizzo.

That's interesting stuff. In the world of dysfunctional micro-management, Dalembert's story rings true. Without having heard Rautins' side of the story, I'd have to say that the coach bears the burden of proof. The politics of "representation" are difficult to play. Dalembert definitely represents Haiti and an ethical use of the game to serve a higher purpose. I don't know what Leo Rautins represents - aside from a source of pride based on his tenure with Syracuse many moons ago.

At this juncture, the best thing is that SD has learned a valuable lesson. In the long run, this likely will not amount to a hill of beans. Nonetheless, it's worthwhile for SD to ensure that his side of the story gets out.

Again, nice work, Mizzo.
