Three Hall of Fame Players Traded On the Same Day: Ken Griffey Jr. Traded To Chicago White Sox; Manny Ramirez Traded To Los Angeles Dodgers; Pudge Rodriguez Traded To New York Yankees
The sweetest swing ever heads back to the American League(?)
I didn’t want to post this yet until the trade was finalized (players to be named as well), but if Junior accepts the trade (he had questions, but has since agreed) he’ll get his wish and play for a contender.
Kenny Williams pulled a power move here, but the White Sox still need to get a pitcher or eight. Can Griffey still play center or will he play right? It will be interested to see if Griffey agrees to this because he has a 16.5 million option available and who is gonna pay that? With the next homer, Junior moves into a tie with Sammy Sosa (5th all time in homers) and Ty Cobb (10th all time in extra base hits).
No more of this!
Thank you Joe Torre! Damn…as a Yankee fan, I can finally relax a little. Thanks coach! I don’t care who the Red Sox replace Manny with, there’s no way they will EVER replace one of the best right handed hitters of our time. Seeing Manny come to the plate late in games in New York was nerve wracking. What the hell is Boston thinking here? The deal sends Jason Bay of the Pirates to Boston. Third baseman Andy LaRoche and right-handed pitcher Bryan Morris will go to the Pirates from the Dodgers. Outfielder Brandon Moss and right-handed pitcher Craig Hansen will leave the Red Sox organization for Pittsburgh.
So saying something like the following gets you traded? Even when you are a Hall of Fame player? I know this has been stewing for years but it’s the dumbest trade I have ever seen from a Boston standpoint. You win two titles and now you get arrogant Theo Epstein? I’m of the opinion you never trade a HOF caliber player under any circumstances. It ALWAYS sets you back…
“The Red Sox don’t deserve a player like me,” Ramirez told ESPNdeportes.com Wednesday. “During my years here, I’ve seen how they [the Red Sox] have mistreated other great players when they didn’t want them to try to turn the fans against them.
“The Red Sox did the same with guys like Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez, and now they do the same with me. Their goal is to paint me as the bad guy. I love Boston fans, but the Red Sox don’t deserve me. I’m not talking about money. Mental peace has no price, and I don’t have peace here.”
Thank you Boston! See you in our rear view in October…Especially now that we got Pudge.
You can see it in his eyes huh?
Yeah Ivan Rodriguez is not the player he once was, but to get one of the best catchers of all time is tremendous. Kyle Farnsworth was traded to Detroit to complete the quick developing deal and Pudge had to waive his no trade clause to make it happen. With Jorge Posada electing to have season ending shoulder surgery on his throwing arm yesterday, the Yankees felt they had to make a move. Jose Molina is a pretty good defensive catcher, but this was a no brainer as the Yankees once again make a playoff push.
No if the Yankees would sign this cat it would be guaranteed…
