What Are Your Thoughts On the Brett Farve Trade From Green Bay to New York?

athletes_brett_favre What Are Your Thoughts On the Brett Farve Trade From Green Bay to New York?

It’s not Friday, but I gotta ask this question and many many more: What are your thoughts on the trade?

How sick–or not–were you of the last three weeks?

How will Brett handle the New York media?

Is this Eric Mangini’s push to somehow overtake America’s team–and Bill Belichick, by trading for Captain America?

I don’t like the whole media fawning over Brett Favre when Black athletes are never afforded such, but I do want to see Brett play until his hands fall off because when he’s gone, he’s gone. Your thoughts?

When exactly were you sick of this shit?

Pundits are screaming that Favre was second in the MVP voting, but that just shows you how much Randy Moss is under appreciated right?

What does Brett Favre have left?

What about his legacy?

What about Chad Pennington (who is to be released)?

Aaron Rodgers?

Where will the Jets finish?

How about the Pack?

Does this remind you at all about Michael Jordan with the Washington Wizards?

Is Brett on Michael’s level? Some will make a major argument that he is.

Hell no, because there were too many interceptions in the clutch and only 1 ring that mainly was achieved because Reggie White and Desmond Howard had great performances.

Brett Favre gets too much credit when others would have been crucified a long time ago. Does the make up of the media have anything to do with that?

Damn right!

I hope the Madden Jinx gets him………..

I resented Brett Favre for the last few years, because of how the media put him on a pedestal and treated him like Jesus. It had little to do with Favre himself, but I it IRKED me that he got royal treatment and lots of other black athletes haven’t.

With all that said, I’ve been 100% on Brett Favre’s side during this whole ordeal. The Packers owed him more than what they gave. The bitched out like sissies by not trading him to the Vikings. Brett in a purple uniform vs. the packers would have been one of the most watched football games in history.

You cant help but admire him as a player, and I wish the dude luck… (I will probably change my mind once ESPN starts to suck him off midway through the season… i cant help it).

Brett Favre first talked about possibly retiring after the Packers won the SuperBowl in 1997. As a result, i’ve been tired of him since that fiasco began. But in the last 4-5 years, i’ve REALLY become annoyed with him.

I’m just glad he’s been traded so maybe now I can watch NFL network with limited mentioning of his name (I know….wishful thinking, right? ).

    @CoCo
    Ooooh Sni-zap!!!

I forgot that Favre is on the cover of Madden. It’s a rap…..he might not make it through the entire season (lol).

    Peace.

You really don’t understand why they wouldn’t trade him to a division rival. If he goes on to play well for the Jets they are going to look stupid for trading him, but if he goes on to play well on a team in their division who they face twice a year they look extra stupid!
I know we always want to take the Athletes side, but Brett’s been acting like a diva and then you had the commissioner getting involved and everyone wanted to make special concessions for Brett. Why? He’s not bigger than game and that’s how he’s been treated for the last decade. I’m so over Brett Favre and I hope he fails miserably. And another thing, if I were the Packers I wouldn’t have traded him. I would have honestly made him come in and compete with Rodgers for the starting position. I would have done it for the simple fact that he went all over tv blasting me. Hell yeah, I wouldve been vindictive as hell. Some of these athletes are getting waaay too big for their breeches. Wouldn’t it have been nice if Barry Sanders got this kind of treatment? Brett damn well better play better than he’s played in recent years (except last year) New Yorkers will not handle him like they did in Green Bay. When he starts throwing into triple coverage and getting picked off mercilessly they will let him know about it.

HAHA……………..see thats why I love me some sista CoCo.

She don’t hold back………reminds me of my wife.

  6. Co Co Says:

I probably shouldn’t say that because I don’t want anyone to get hurt, but I’m just saying I hope he has an unbelievably bad season! Like Horrible. Like throwing more interceptions than touchdowns horri…. oh, he’s done that before ;)

  7. Matthew Fudge Says:

Yet one more example that it pays to white in this country. I lost respect for him once he broke a Man Law by sticking his nose in Javon Walker’s business during his contract dispute. You don’t mess with another grown man’s money like that. But Walker knew he couldn’t win a media war with Brett Favre, so he took the high road and didn’t respond. Now he’s doing his little diva, take-me-back thing and it’s getting on my last nerves. Believe me, Favre’s always been a diva. No way you can stay humble when the fans and media keep telling you that the sun rises and sets when you say so. It’s just that in the last few years, it’s become obvious. No way T.O. or Chad Johnson could get away with that. They’d never hear the end of it. But good ol’ Caucasian country-boy Favre gets a pass. Go ahead and think race has nothing to do with it. You’re crazy.

  8. Boney Says:

I think it’s unfair to Byron Leftwich that Brett Favre immediately gets the opportunity to start in New York while Byron can’t get a job anywhere

  9. Jerold Wells Jr. Says:

    Few thoughts……

Favre is one of the greatest QBs ever. I’m gonna say top ten all time. This is a guy who resurrected a franchise. Think about it ya’ll. I know you’ve seen the SC highlights of wins, playoff appearances, and general relevance pre Favre. The team was in shambles and he changed that. Say what you want about him as a teammate, prima donna, and/or celebrity but the guy has earned the majority of the butt kissing he recieves. Think of the WRs TEs and RBs hes played with. Who really sticks out?

Sharpe? Driver? Walker? Ferguson? Rison? (for a hot second)
Edgar Bennett? Dorsey Levens? Ryan Grant?
    Bubba Franks? Chmura?

Give me a HOFer in the bunch. Don’t worry, I’ll wait. Maybe Sharpe if he didn’t get hurt. The common denominator was Favre. So what if he can do no wrong in the eyes of the MSM, we too have our heros.

I feel the worst for Chad Pennington. This is a guy who’s taken the Jets to the playoffs and now he’s looking at the freaking Dolphins. I’d like to seem him catch on with a team that’s a QB away because I really think he has the talent to put, say, Chicago, Baltimore, Buffalo, or Minnesota over the hump. I may think too much of him but that’s the way it goes sometimes.

  10. Okori Says:

It’s a wild shame what Brett Favre was allowed to do. He retired multip times only to come back right as the team starts training camp and immediately expects to be the starter. And Matthew is right. If Randall Cunningham did this there’d be a mutiny.

    And Mizz…. I’m still waiting.

  11. Co Co Says:

No one disputes what he means to Green Bay, but that does not give him the right to act like he’s bigger than the NFL. He could have thrown his weight around in a manner more fitting of a legend. Instead he turned into everything that people complain about with the typical American athlete.

  12. Jdubb Says:

Maybe I am evil like that but if I am Minnesota, I am so trying to trade something to get Brett Favre from the JETS. Screw you GB, we got him anyway.
CoCo hit it,…The Madden Jinx is on(August 12 in my PX), however he did retire and the come back,. maybe Favre is just doing this to kill the jinx once in for all to be the sacraficial lamb for ever other player that will grace a Madden cover, I dunno
seriously, I am so done with Favre, I dont care who he plays for or doesn’t let’s just get the season started

  13. CEvidence Says:

The Jets would be stupid to trade Favre to the Vikings. Green Bay isnt dumb, a contidion of the trade is if they trade Farve to Minnesota, that draft pick that they gave to Green Bay becomes THREE FIRST ROUND PICKS!!!!! Is he worth that?

  14. GrandNubian Says:

I heard on NFL Network that the Packers made sure that there was a clause included as part of the trade to the Jets that would prevent Favre from being traded to ANY team in the NFC North.

So Favre will NEVER play for a team in the NFC North again.

  15. michelle Says:

I know the fans in Greenbay feel betrayed. Farve really wants to be a Viking. Packer fans are probably so mad at him that their cheese heads are melting.

  16. michelle Says:

I’ve been to Green Bay and the football team is the most important part of the city. The fans there live for the Packers.

  17. michelle Says:

No! Farve isn’t on Jordans level. Jordan was the best at his position to ever play basketball and many say he was the best player period. Farve isn’t the best qb to ever play in the NFL. Joe Montana is. Farve has just played the longest. He didn’t even have the best performance on his team during the Super Bowl Green Bay won. Jordan was always the star of the show. Farve has had a great career thus far but Jordan…..HELL NO!

  18. ronglover Says:

I’m curious to see his response to the NY Media if the Jets start out 2-4 and he’s still struggling to jell with his receivers. I’m wondering if Mangini is going to simplify the offense some to Farve’s liking. September 14th and November 13th will be against the Pats.

John Madden’s mancrush continues for at least another season.

  19. GrandNubian Says:

“John Madden’s mancrush continues for at least another season.”

Yeah, and you can add Chris Berman’s name to that list as well.

  20. ronglover Says:

Wow! Berman finally got over Montana huh :-)

  21. The Most Known Unknown Says:

I’m really sick of hearing about JET Farve.

  22. Matthew Fudge Says:

Speaking of Berman, how long do you think it takes him and John Madden to get the brown stains off their faces?

  23. ronglover Says:

Actually they compare stains to see whose love for Fav-re is greater

  24. Matthew Fudge Says:

Guess there’s no reason for them to care as long as their checks keep clearing.

  25. GrandNubian Says:

LOL……you guys are cracking me up!

  26. Matthew Fudge Says:

You know I ain’t lyin’, Nubian!! Madden should just move in with Brett and get it over with.

  27. thebrotherreport Says:

If there was anyway possible for a man to conceive Madden would be first in line.

    Call it the Ejaculate Reception!

He’s already inquired about cloning Favre.

  28. TC Says:

This man Favre makes Clemens look humble. I thought Favre should have retired in ‘03 when he couldn’t lead his team to a comeback as he usually did during his career. He’s been mediocre/bad pretty much since then. Now he plays footsie with the media and can’t quit with even a shred of dignity. Of course, if there was any kind of skeptical media in this country, his ego would not have been so assuaged. But the media is perhaps more craven even than him. I am glad that I’m really not much of a football fan and don’t have cable so I don’t see much of this douchebag. I’m real sorry the Jets released Pennington to Favre’s benefit. Yeah Pennington has been somewhat inconsistent but he had a much better attitude and he has some talent. SOOOO sick of all this ish.

  29. TC Says:

Michelle-agree with ya about Favre’s performance. I think Montana was better. He knew (roughly) when to quit. Hell, Warren Moon was real productive too, for that matter. But to compare MJ and Favre…….please. MJ owned the league his whole time in it till ‘98. When he came back I thought it was a bit of a desperate move but the man could still play some. Favre has been livin’ off the generosity of the media for the last few years. Yeah, he had a decent year last year but before that, he’d been mediocre. MJ knew when to call it quits. Still, for me, the athlete with the most sense-comparable to the idea in showbiz that you always leave ‘em wanting more-was Barry Sanders. Left at the top of his game and we never hear a word from him. He was the best.

  30. Matthew Fudge Says:

Hope you don’t mind if I segue to another point.

I just saw the Rules of Discourse page. Had to stop when I saw “Free speech ain’t free.” You ain’t never lied. Reminds me of two quotes:

“Freedom of speech - just watch what you say.” - Ice-T

“We Americans don’t have rights. We have privileges. They can be taken from us at any time.” - George Carlin
