Michael Phelps Is Five For Five
4 seconds under the record
Although he’s getting a lot of help from his teammates, Michael Phelps is doing things no other Olympian 9 (present, Spitz was 7, 7 and 7. My bad T3.) has done…
5 events, 5 gold medals, 5 world records?
Damn.
In his signature event, the 200m butterfly, the University of Michigan product swam most of the race with his goggles filled with water. He held off Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh to win in 1 min 52:03sec–which is 6 hundreths under the world record he set in Melbourne, Australia 18 months ago. He was a little disappointed in his time: “I wanted to break the world record. I wanted to go 1-51 or better but for the circumstances I guess it’s not too bad.”
Incredible but that’s how legends are.
Next up for Phelps was the 4X200 freestyle relay with teammates Ryan Lochte, Ricky Berens and Peter VanderKaay. The team sliced 4 seconds off the world record pace–finishing at 6 min 58:56 sec and became the first team ever under 7 minutes.
What Phelps is doing is simply legendary. He’s already become the most decorated Olympian ever in terms of gold medals with 11–surpassing swimmer Mark Spitz, track legend Carl Lewis, Finland’s long distance runner Paavo Nurmi and Soviet gymnast Larysa Latynina who all accomplished nine.
Phelps has three more events and if he wins all three will become the only Olympian ever to win 8 golds.
Good luck Michael.

Isn’t he doing things that 1 other Olympian has done?
He’s amazing. He swims like a fish.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
What amazes me is how he looks at the competition after his flip. I’m a swimmer, however this man is more than an athlete, he is simply out of this world, and it is a joy to watch him compete.
Are you speaking of Spitz bruh?
No, my bad I was referring to Phelps. I’m too young to recall Spitz, however I do appreciate his accomplishments too.
