Live Blog USA vs. Spain
Did this against Greece, so let’s do it again. Spain is supposed to be the main roadblock in USA’s quest to win the gold. They boast Pau Gasol, Jose Calderon and Ricky Rubio–the 17 year old wunderkind. This is not a medal round contest but we’ll see…
Lebron on the pretty left handed lay.
Spain comes back with the same.
Howard inside.
Fernandez for three.
LeBron misses a quick three.
USA is the worst three pointing team in these Olympics…but haven’t lost.
Melo strip but no score.
Kobe knocks Gasol on his ass but Spain gets inside for two.
Melo for a transition three.
Dwight Howard goes inside.
7-7 with 7 left in the first.
Dwight Howard smacks the rock back to Orlando.
Here comes Wade as Kobe picks up his second.
LeBron Chuck’s himself down the court for the left handed flush.
Calderon with the jumper off the wing.
Bron Bron for three. Looks like his game is this one.
LeBron takes it strong to the lane but is fouled.
This game has a better flow than Greece. Spain seems to be a lot more talented. NBA feel here.
King makes two.
Reyes inside for two.
Ricky Rubio in the game. Let’s see what really goes on here.
Wade with the rip and bang.
USA 18-13.
Another rip, Spain fouls.
Rubio makes two.
Melo for three..largest lead for the US 23-15.
The Rubio hype has begun. “High basketball I.Q., not the fastest or the quickest, but he grows on you. He’ll be a top five pick and some say the number one pick”.
Dude….stop smokin’
Lil Gasol in.
CP3 for the pretty drop off to Melo for the boof and then comes back and makes a pretty outlet to Wade. USA up thirteen.
Marc Gasol scores off two free throws and a foul line jumper.
USA 29, Spain 20.
Spain goes to the zone.
Bernie Rodriguez for two.
Wade does it again and rips it for the bang. 10 turnovers for Spain.
Nice first period for USA. 31 points in 10 minutes?
After 1, USA 31, Spain 22.
Origin chimes in:
Rubio hype…LOL!!!
Man you should check out some of the international boards or Realgm.
Man they swear this dude is as good as chris paul!!!LOL
You see how paul split that double team and the pass to Carmello.
I feel you O, I’ve personally heard about this cat for three years.
Prince who finally gets some time, hits a three then throws a lob to LeBron for the bang.
Both teams begin to talk so shit and the ref tries to take control.
Kobe with the rip and the two handed reverse dunk.
USA 38-26.
Paul the baseline j.
Technical on Reyes. Kobe misses the first. Hits the second.
Pau with strong move and scores over Bosh with the foul. Makes the free throw.
James three. USA 5/8 from behind the line.
He’s got 16.
Kobe with a three which puts USA up 45-31.
Kobe picks up another foul…done for the first half…Wade in.
Anthony for the inside jumper.
USA 47-36.
Wade again inside.
Deron Williams for three.
USA has 54 points in the first half.
Wade drops it off to Prince, who gets fouled.
Rubio oop to Rudy Fernandez.
CP3 oops the Spain defender and gets fouled. Makes one, hits the second.
59-43 USA. Minute left in the half.
Damn Paul sets up Boozer nice, but he misses, so does Wade on the follow before Boozer scores off the tip,
At the half, USA 61, Spain 45.
The USA is playing sick defense and creating mad turnovers. Like I said before, what will the haters say now because their poster boys are getting blown out–although it is early. Here’s some comments from the TSF crew:
origin Says:
And folks have the nerve to talk bad about NBA refs. Man this is horrible.
Says:
Europeans are intelligent and have a high basketball IQ, while the members of team USA are athletic. Why is that?
Oh and FIBA referees are a joke!
origin Says:
Its the same old same old MKU. Even on the international sites the ignorance is the same. Its just world wide.
You see that ball movement vs the zone. Man they were killing that 2-3.
I love it………..pound those jokers in the ground.
I hear you brotha….run them in the ground.
Kobe for the flush.
Melo hits another three. USA 66, Spain 45.
Refs are calling a crazy game.
LOL Spain cuts it to 18 with a three. That’s a line for yo ass.
Let me say another thing…as Melo hist another thrr to go up 22…the talent gap is not as narrow as it’s perceived to be…blame that shit on the war. There’s no way we would have lost any tournament if we sent our best players.
Get off that shit.
We are the only team in the world who offers negative commentary on the basketball team. It’s crazy to hear the announcers hate on our players. Breen says that going undefeated in pool play means nothing. How does that statement add to the broadcast?
CP3 scores in transition, USA up 20.
Paul scores over Rubio. Dude has a long way to go. He’s only 17, but I just don’t see it. Maybe it’s because he’s six four?
O says:
I love Kobe….but he hasn’t looked well in this olympics on the offensive end.
Agreed brotha as Flash goes in for the flush.
Breen calls Bosh Bush and chuckles. Damn dude, what do you have on the mind?
Game is getting out of hand so I guess Breen and Collins have nothing really to talk about. It almost seems as if they are disappointed. Does anyone else get that sense, or is it just me?
Uh…no.
Redd is getting some burn?
About time.
Wade inside for the rebound and put back. USA 82-61
Reyes scores inside. He’s playing hard to the end.
Collins makes good point about Tim Grover. Grover is one of the most respected trainers in the lig. If you are banged up and want to get on track, he’s the cat to get it done.
Bosh the bang off the James feed.
After three, USA 86, Spain 63.
It’s over.
It’s so over that Sager is interviewing Tina Thompson. The USA women’s team is just as good as teh men’s squad. Thompson is the leading scorer. Glad to see her get some shine.
Wade is ridiculous. Damn Flash…what do you have going on? He’s definitely the best player on the USA squad so far.
Rubio nice oop to Gasol.
Fernandez for three in garbage time. USA up 92-71.
Origin on Rubio:
“I have to give it to Rubio. He is good stealing passes in the passing lane. But his man to man D sucks.”
I see some flashes O, but is that cat going to be what he’s advertised?
I don’t think so and I’m not hatin’.
Dwight Howard big inside today. Scores over Gasol–with the bump. Completes the three point play.
Off the break Michael Redd does the same, but misses the free throw.
Paul does his Nash all around the lane and feeds Howard for the Diesel like dunk.
104-71 USA.
The Most Known Unknown responds to Origin regarding Kobe: “Don’t worry about Kobe’s offense. In these games, its what you don’t see that you get.”
USA running out as DWill and Redd both get transition dunks. Both score off of Paul feeds.
I think the US changed gears just before the 1st half against Greece. It’s on now, so the haterade will morph into something else I assume.
114, 78 USA. Minute 24 left.
Nice look from James to Boozer. LeBron has 8 dimes.
Prince knocks down a three.
119-82 USA Final.
They beat that ass folks. Force 28 turnovers and shoot 58 percent. Germany on Monday before the medal round. No competition so far. How will the refs respond when the money is on the table? What do fans and media have to say for underestimating a team which is head and shoulders above any team here? They played 3 years together and you expected something different. Flash looks like he’s playing in a video game. Get with the program people, this is a wrap.
Co Co–yeah I’m calling you out–where you at?
Paul, who scores 14 and has 8 assists tells Sager that they definitely were trying to send a message. He says the guards took it as a personal challenge regarding all the guard talk.

Good game by China also.

Don’t worry about Kobe’s offense. In these games, its what you don’t see that you get.
August 16th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
True MKU. Kobe’s and Wade’s defense has been great in the olympics.
August 16th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I like how Chris Sheridan at ESPN.com hates on Team USA everyday and today when Spain gets blown to bits, he changes his tune.
August 16th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Damn NBC with their you-can-watch-the-game-if-you-can-figger-out-when-it’s-on-coverage. Great live blog man, thanks-it’s as close as I got to watchin’ the game. Sounds like U-S-A, U-S-A is locked in. Great to see D-Wade back to his old, bad self. And Kobe shuttin’ people down on D. But more importantly, seems like everyone is contributing. Why couldn’t they have J. Van Gundy to counter Breen. Breen is such an empty suit. At least JVG offers some more original insights and he steers Breen away from being such a douche. And it’s great to hear JVG and M. Jackson interacting. It seems pretty clear they have a real good, respectful, relationship. So Rubio didn’t look all that? What about Fernandez?
August 17th, 2008 at 1:43 am
Fernandez looked pretty good. I like how he moves without the ball. Moves around without the ball similiar to Rip Hamilton.
I wish JVG was on the broadcast.

Virtually no one is talking about the great defense Lebron has been playing in these Olympics. Dude is taking his game to another level right before our eyes.
