Dude was so quick he raised his hands in celebration twenty meters from the finish, coasted to the win and still set the world record. If you haven’t heard of Bolt, who easily broke his own record, you aren’t alone.

Bolt was a 400 m runner previously and looked to run the 100 to avoid the rigors of 400 m training.

At 6′5″ the sinewy Jamaican uses long strides–compensating for average starts because of his length.

Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago won the silver (9.89) and American Walter Dix won the bronze (9.91).

Asafa Powell, the previous world record holder and countryman of Bolt, finished a disappointing 5th. I thought after Athens that Powell would redeem himself, but maybe he inspired Bolt to become the best.

As you may know, Tyson Gay failed to qualify for the finals. He was eliminated after finishing 5th in the semis. It’s a shame his injured hamstring wouldn’t hold up.

Bolt, Gay and Powell were supposed to run this race together to decide who the most recent fastest man in the world is, but it was not to be for it was Bolt’s day.

Could you imagine being a track star with the last name Bolt?
