Venus and Serena Williams Take Doubles Gold in Beijing

Olympic gold has become a fixture in the Williams family. Venus and Serena captured their 2nd doubles gold medals by routing Spanish duo Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-2, 6-0. They ran their record to 10-0 in Olympic doubles competition. They didn’t play in 2004 in Athens because Serena was injured.

Venus also has a singles gold from Sydney in 2000.

“It does mean more for me to win it with Serena, to share this kind of moment with your sister,” Venus said. “I mean, we are practically joined at the hip.”

Mission Complete: With the Help of His Teammates, Michael Phelps Wins His Eigth Gold Medal

Man this was dramatic and I got goosebumps watching it unfold. 17 races in 8 days? Wow.

I wish all athletes were celebrated in this fashion but Michael Phelps has done something more than 100,000 athletes have never done. I don’t know where this sits in sports history, but Phelps has to be up there with the best of them. 8 events, 8 gold medals, 7 world records. I honestly am a little glad he only set 7 so Mark Spitz won’t be totally forgotten–Carl Lewis and Jesse Owens either.

Sunday Swerve: The Isley Brothers Edition
