They ran their record to 10-0 in Olympic doubles competition. They didn’t play in 2004 in Athens because Serena was injured.

Venus also has a singles gold from Sydney in 2000.

“It does mean more for me to win it with Serena, to share this kind of moment with your sister,” Venus said. “I mean, we are practically joined at the hip.”

The sisters lost just two sets the entire Olympic tournament.

China’s Yan Zi and Zheng Jie of China beat Alona and Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-2 6-2 to win the bronze.

In singles, Venus was seeded seventh but lost to unseeded Li Na in the quarterfinals 7–5, 7–5. Serena, the fourth seed, lost in the quarterfinals as well in to fifth-seeded Elena Dementieva 3–6, 6–4, 6–3.
