Usain Does It Again! Bolt Breaks the World Record In the 200m
Jamaica’s Usain Bolt becomes the first runner since Carl Lewis in 1984 to win both the 100 and 200m races in the
same Olympics. He also becomes the first runner ever to eclipse both world records in the same games. He broke Michael Johnson’s record of 19.32 by running 19.30. There was no slowing up this time as Bolt ran hard to the finish and set the record. After he won the 100m he caught mad wreck from media pundits for coasting the last 20 meters in gold medal winning celebration.
Even still, Bolt shattered fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell’s mark in the 100m by running a ridiculous 9.69. Bolt won the 200m in a sick .52 seconds over the silver medalist, Churandy Martina of Netherlands Antilles. The defending Olympic champion, American Shawn Crawford, won the bronze after teammate Wallace Spearmon was disqualified after he ran out of his lane. Bolt has become a standout in these Olympics along the lines of Michael Phelps. He’s done something neither Carl Lewis or Jesse Owens accomplished. Bolt is only 21 so he’s setting himself up for a nice career. Is he the next best?
WTF???…..he’s only 21??????
I thought Michael Johnson’s WR would never be broken but this guy has done the unthinkable — twice…..DAMN!!!
Yeah he’s a 6’5″ monster. 40 years after the pivotal ’68 games and we see all kinds of records shattered like none ever existed.
Grand Nubian-
yep, I think I heard them say earlier this week that he turns 22 tomorrow. The scary thing is, that he only started doing the 100 meters regularly this year. No telling what he’d be doing if he’d have been practicing for it all along. I thought that he could break Johnson’s record, but I didn’t think he’d do it. There’s going to be a lot of celebrations in Jamaica when he and the Jamaican 100 meter women get home. I see an NFL offer in Mr. Bolt’s future.
Insane! He could’ve run a 9.5 in the 100 meters.
I’d stay away from the NFL. He’s only 22, and a fresh face in the sport. Lewis is gone, so is Johnson. Bolt is the shot in the arm that Track and Field needs.
The title of World’s Fastest Human means something and at his age he will become marketable. In 2012 he will be the attraction that Michael Phelps was for these games if he remains consistant.

I haven’t enjoyed watching track this much probably since Michael Johnson in 1996. The first time I saw Bolt was when he set the record in the 100 the first time on that tape delayed meet in NY earlier this year. I knew watching him then, that he was going to be something special, and that Gay and Powell had better step their games up to even begin to keep up with him. Obviously, he’s better than most could ever imagine and has plenty of time to set more records.
WOW!!!!
I agree. You look at the build of Gay and Powell then look at Bolt. You figure that with his build Bolt should be faster than these guys but not like this.
I call it the Cheetah Theory. Look at the Cheetah’s structure compared to other cats and you see why it’s the fastest.
With a name like Bolt I guess racing was his destiny
“I call it the Cheetah Theory. Look at the Cheetah’s structure compared to other cats and you see why it’s the fastest.”
Damn, I never thought of it that way. I might have to agree with you on that.
“With a name like Bolt I guess racing was his destiny”
…..and I might have to agree with you on that, too.
