Live Blog USA vs. Spain Men’s Basketball Gold Medal Game
Hmmmm, let me see here. How should I pump this? There’s not much else to say but Spain is going to get that ass busted. No future in your frontin’ folks. All of that imbecile media programming ya got going on in that head of yours is about to get blasted out of your psyche like it should have a long time ago. This team can’t even beat themselves. Their poor free throw and inconsistent three point shooting has still led to 20 point blowouts. Flash is making hey you look at me plays before the opposition knows what the crowd is cheering about. They’re stunned for a reason. They are stunned because this team has the athleticism of say the biggest and baddest Liger in existence. You want to watch it perform, but you’re scared as hell as well.

Take no prisoners brothas!

Anyway all that is immaterial. The United States Senior Men’s Basketball team reclaims the Gold Medal. They celebrate at half court as if the weight of the world is off their shoulders. Way to go US. Way to make us proud and buck the odds. Now get your Black asses over here and speak out on some issues plaguing American communities. You have no longer the obligation to sit and not speak out because of the political leanings of corporate sponsors. Do what you have to do and take care of something…anything.

August 24th, 2008 at 8:29 amSpain played a great game and showed some Pride after getting hosed, I expected them to play hard but they gave the Dream Team a battle all the way and Fernandez is a baller. Kobe stepped up big in the fourth with all that Foul trouble 118 -107 U.S. Hoops is back
-
HarveyDent Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 8:32 amThis makes me so happy to see how much these guys are enjoying this win. Screw all the talk, the best b’ball is played right here in the U.S. of A. I’m as proud of these guys as I am the players from ‘92 and even the guys from ‘04 who were royally screwed by FIBA and Larry Brown.
-
origin Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 8:33 amGreat win by USA. HAHA now what will the bigots in teh MSM say now.
And kobe led the team to the goal. I love it those brothas shut the mainstream media up.
D@mn FIBA got the worst refs I have ever seen. I am glad its over. Perimeter players get mugged no foul. But big men in the paint getting touch fouls. Please. Goodbye FIBA.

August 24th, 2008 at 8:41 amFinch,
Hello there! I didn’t see u.
Origin and Eric,
What’s up! Good Night yall it was a good game.
-
HarveyDent Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 8:42 amYou know they did which is why this win is so bittersweet for me because I know the MSM is going to crap on them for having such a close game with Spain and give all the praise to Colangelo and Coach K for molding the buck negroes into a team that can think on the court instead of relying on physical abilities.
-
The Most Known Unknown Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 8:45 amIts nice to see Kobe and Dwyane take care of business and ensure that the gold was coming home.

Do you know how many people were disappointed that we won?
Shit is disgusting.

August 24th, 2008 at 8:47 amYeap Mizzo I heard that bigot……I bet he said in his mind “D@mn them kneegrows gonna win”
I just wish Redeem team would have never went over their to shake collins or Breens hands after the win. Those dudes are classless.
NBC commentary is just as bad as ESPN and ABC when it comes to black players. F them.
Congrats to the brothas on team USA. And like you said brotha Mizzo coach K almost choked it away. Thank god for my boy Kobe.
-
HarveyDent Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 8:47 amWaiting for the medal presentation because I know the team is going to have fun up on the stand.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 8:50 amYou all this team is still gotta catch mad wreck right?
-
HarveyDent Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 8:58 amThey were going to catch it regardless, Miz. It’s the nature of the beast here in this country and it’s media.
I hate that Breen said Colangelo got players who would be proud to represent their country. What AI, Duncan, and everyone else from ‘04 weren’t proud? AI cemented his leadership skills with me with that team because he kept them together more than the coaches and gutted out that bronze medal. Seeing that pic with that PROUD look on his face makes me all upset when people sneeze at what he and his team accomplished.
F these fools.
No dis but what da hell did Doug Collins ever win?
-
origin Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 9:03 am“No dis but what da hell did Doug Collins ever win?”
As far as I know nothing!!!
-
Eric Daniels Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 9:58 amThe MSM will never be happy, they are all now eating crow!!! and you don’t win championshps without good team play, in 2004 KG and Ray Allen decided not to go (terrorist concerns) so they didn’t have an althletic inside prescence (Chris Bosh & Dwight Howard in 2008) nor shooters like Micheal Redd, and KOBE !!! who they could go to in a pinch, and Marbury and Iverson are not true point guards but shooting guards (and played well) and LeBron, Mello and D-Wade were rookies to International playand in the league.
FUCK THE MEDIA !!!!
-
Okori Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 1:27 pmwell sleeping was important to me. that’s why I went to bed before the game and figured i’d watch the replay.
and check your e-mail Mizzo. I just wanted to ask you a question.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 2:32 pmOkori you could have asked me that question here. I gotta say that if you weren’t a dedicated reader I would go off on you. I understand the sentiment but to call Ricky Rubio a number one pick with all the point guard talent being groomed on AAU teams all over this country is ridiculous.
-
Okori Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 3:26 pmI would have hedged the bet a little bit more than Mike Breen did and say Rubio is a definite top-5 pick in next year’s draft. Like just picking point guards it’s a deep crop this year. You’ve got Lawson from UNC, the australian kid from St. Mary’s, Rubio, Brandon Jennings and several more.
-
origin Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 3:56 pmThe biggest thing is you have BJ Mullens. This white kat is bad.
Dude is 7 foot tall and got the athletic ability of a young david robinson.
Now they have talked about his lack of motivation. But still dude is 7 feet tall. look how high joe Alexander has gone just because of his athletic ability. The thing with fools like breen is they don’t know what they are talking about.
Also folks are too busy reading dumb websites like draft express. They have Rubio as a first overall pick. Please those fools don’t even know what they are talking about.
Mizzo has the league ever taken a pg number 1 overall in back to back years??
Not that I know of. Plus a point guard like Rubio who can’t really score. And I don’t want to hear how his teams are so good he doesn’t have to score please. That dude struggles to score.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 4:13 pmNot that I know of O. I think Rubio is seen as drafting a golden boy quarterback number one. There’s more than talent that’s factored in. The best young pg I’ve seen is Malcolm Lee of UCLA. He’s gonna be a bad boy. There’s Darren Collison, Alexey Shved of Russia who has some sick skills but needs to get in the gym and pump till he can’t pump no more. Jrue Holiday. Stephen Curry and of course Brandon Jennings.
I’ve never said that Rubio can’t play. He’s six three, six four and has a smooth handle, but to come out and say this cat is gonna be number one is just crazy. When have you heard that about any point guard ever? Magic and Isiah of recent times. That’s it. History is at my back here.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 4:18 pmDamn I’m forgetting a lot of cats…
Johnny Flynn anyone? He would murder Rubio off the dribble. AJ Price? Manny Harris, Dominic James, Eric Maynor? There’s all kinds of players out there. Enough to where Rubio is gonna have to prove himself in the gym against pro talent unless GM’s are just looking to fill seats.
I’m sure Stern is salivating at the prospect of getting Ricky in the L, but trust that it ain’t just about talent. He’ll get the financial windfall of an entire nation and possibly a continent.
-
Okori Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 4:25 pmthaty’s true. this is a pretty sick point guard crop this year assuming everyone performs up to their capabilities (and someone won’t.)
-
origin Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 4:30 pmI agree Mizzo and I know what you are saying. My point was that you have centers like BJ and the point guards that you mentioned. Plus you have that guard at USC (Demar DeRozan).
So that number 1 pick crap is crazy. Lets look at the foreign born players drafted number one. Bogut, Barganni, Hakeem, duncan (even though he really isn’t a foreign player) and Ewing. 7 footers both can score. The NBA has a history of taking big men number 1. Now all of a sudden they are gonna draft a pg number 1, 2 years in a row. Please.
Plus a pg who struggles to score. Magic and zeke could score and dish. Rubio isn’t there yet and may never be.
Over the last 2 years I have been more impressed rudy F then him. And who knows he might not nothing more then an avg. to above avg. 2 guard. And the brotha mills from Austraila.
Mizzo I hate that they throw that 17 years of age crap in. Thats BS, the dude is a pro has been since he was 14. Or bring up how he is the starting pg for Spain. Once again he is a 3 year pro. No more of this he is a kid stuff. Overseas they treat these basketball players like tennis folks. It ain’t how old you are its how long you been a pro.
Why was kobe and lebron so good at 20 and 21. Those dudes were 2 and 3 year pros. Thats the key word pro.
-
origin Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 4:30 pmSorry forgot about Yao……..he went number 1 too.
-
origin Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 4:33 pmGood list mizzo. I forgot about all those young kats. Gonna have to save this one so I can follow these young guys throught the basketball season.
-
Okori Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 4:42 pmI will say that if you’re the Lakers… let Pau Gasol wear a Spanish National Team shirt under his jersey. Cuz that dude is good in international competition.
Oscar Schmidt says hello, Pau.
-
origin Says:
August 24th, 2008 at 5:38 pmTrue Okori same with Scola. But the way they call fouls in the paint in fiba is sad. Thats one of the big reasons scola is unguardable in Fiba. I just don’t understand how you can mug people on the perimeter but can barely touch them in the paint. Folks say that Fiba is more physical then the NBA ………..correction only on the perimeter. But the NBA is more physical in the paint. Big men are allowed to bang in the paint. It seems as though they won’t even let a player body up a offensive man in the post.
Even on some of the rebounds, you see how many times they call ticky take fouls on Howard?
-
Okori Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 12:57 amand Mizz… Rubio is 17., whether or not you want to hear it. He won’t be eligible for the draft until 2010. Which makes what he managed to do in the Gold Medal game playing against Chris Paul and Deron Williams all the more impressive. I imagine that if Derrick Rose was playing in the Fiba U-18’s against Spain, and put that kind of performance on, he’d be where Rubio is.
Origin: FIBA is an entirely different set of rules. I don’t like FIBA rules that much. But i still like watching the games because there’s something about watching the national teams play that intrigues me. It’s always top-shelf talent against top-shelf talent.
-
TC Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 1:01 amAin’t got more time than to check in here and congrat the US team on defeating all-comers. That was a fitting way for the US to win the gold. I’m glad the Spaniards put up a bit of competition…..and Rudy Fernandez is FOR REAL….but I never really thought it was in doubt. Love and peace.
-
TC Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 1:11 amOK that wasn’t quite all….yeah, some whiny ass play by the Spaniards. Had more than a few during the game so not exactly clear on who, but more than enough cheap shots to go round. And really…..the only way Breen should be on TV is if Van Gundy and M Jackson are around to keep him in check. He is an empty suit. And Doug Collins……really, the man gives new meaning to the term annoying. Everything he does is in an effort to appease people. He whines like a female dog….and that’s with all due respect to female canines. OK…really…I’m out I’m out I’m out I’m out I’m ouuuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttttt.
-
origin Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 1:20 amHAHA TC I couldn’t agree more about collins and breen.
-
aone415 Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 4:58 amya’ll are forgetting the real young guns that would cut Ricky to shreds… I’m talking about Lance Stephenson and Tyreke Evans….
-
Mizzo Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 11:09 amOkori did you just say Derrick Rose isn’t where Ricky Rubio is?
LMAO
You’ve got to be kidding me bruh.
Rose obviously led his team to the National Final and IS the number one draft pick….not some media projected hype.
Rubio will be nice, but the fact that he’s seventeen means nothing. Most cats in the NBA are talented at 17.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 11:19 amAone. Damn a blast from the past for yo ass…
Where the hell have you been?
Yeah, I’m about 5 minutes from where Tyreke does his thing on Sundays and I forgot about him.
Lance Stephenson is the truth too. I’ve interacted with he and his people and I omitted him?
And I call myself a sports writer…
-
GrandNubian Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 12:03 pmSorry that missed this live blog but for what it’s worth, i was up watching the game. Big “UPs” to Team USA for bringing home the gold medal……f*** the MSM and all the haterz out there.
I knew that Kobe and D-Wade would not let Team USA lose this game and there were a lot of bullsh** foul calls, which prevented the US from establishing a rhythm defensively. I have a new found respect and admiration for Kobe, D-Wade, LeBron & Melo.
I got jury duty today, so I wanted to get this in before my day got started.
Peace!!!!
-
Okori Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 12:49 pmno Mizz you misunderstood me. I said if Derrick Rose had done in the Gold Medal game what Ricky Rubio did he’d be in the same boat Rubio is in now. Not that they’re the same player cuz Rose is obviously more polished.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 1:06 pmMy bad, but I would add that he’s a lot more talented as well in every facet of the game.
-
Okori Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 1:21 pmpossibly. although if someone gave me Rubio i wouldn’t be upset.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 1:30 pmYou would lose. So you actually think Rubio would have led Memphis to the title game? Okori be realistic here. How much footage of Rubio have you actually seen? The FIBA game is not the NBA. Do you really think Rudy Fernandez is going to do what he did Sunday morning every night in the Lig? You seem like more of a wrestling cat. Don’t fall for the hype bruh. At least not yet. Let Rubio do something first. Don’t cosign on what the media is telling you, ya smarter than that.
Oh it’s not possbly, it’s a fact.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 1:37 pmOkori name one NBA point guard in the history of the league with Rose’s size, speed and strength–and with the lofty expectations.
Oscar is the only one.
Don’t give me Magic because he doesn’t have the athleticism.
Don’t give me Isiah because he doesn’t have the size and strength.
Iverson is not a point guard, he’s a basketball player and doesn’t have the size or the strength.
Jason Kidd is not the athlete Rose is.
Whether or not this translates to a Hall of Fame career obviously remains to be seen, but Rose’s physical gifts are freakish.
I’d take that coming in for by the time he enters his prime–and with the right teaching of course–he’ll murder the league.
What you think Rose is gonna average 5 points and 5 dimes?
Watch him…
-
Okori Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 2:43 pmI think Rose is going to have a good solid year. What that entails in terms of numbers I am not quite sure.
My point was that I was impressed by the poise of Rubio. I think if they played each other right now Rose would beat him. But Rubio showed me some poise in doing what he did.
now back to work for me. FASP’s await. And research on an article going up today.
-
Mizzo Says:
August 25th, 2008 at 3:16 pmI understand some of the excitement over Rubio, but don’t put him in an exclusive class yet because that’s doing a disservice to him, anyone else who balled before him and also the game.
-
TC Says:
August 26th, 2008 at 3:02 amRe: Rose vs. Rubio, Rubio can’t create his own shot remotely at the same level that Rose can. I do think Rubio should be, as Mizzo says, a nice player in the Assn, and perhaps he’ll be even more explosive and dynamic than I anticipate right now (moderately), but Rose is The Truth and will be The Truth from Day One. And oh yeah, here’s one of the most ri-DIC-ulous dunks I’ve ever seen, by Mr. Lance Stephenson.
-
Allen Says:
August 26th, 2008 at 4:13 pmI don’t understand why Rubio is hyped so much because of his age. If you compare him to Lebron at the same age, or even Dwight Howard, who was more NBA ready? Hell, I would argue that kid Wagner who couldn’t stay healthy was just as dominant at Rubio at the same age.
