Ron Glover’s Week 2 NFL Predictions

The egg on my face from last week’s Giants/Redskins match up is finally gone. This week we have a schedule full of bitter rival match ups. Expect some physical games as teams try to grab a psychological edge early in the season.
Here are some rivalries of note: Green Bay at Detroit, Oakland at Kansas City, San Diego at Denver, N.Y. Jets at New England, wrapping it up Monday night in Dallas will be the Eagles taking on the Cowboys.
*Note the Ravens/Texans game has been postponed until November 9th because of Hurricane Ike.
Sunday September 14, 2008
Green Bay at Detroit 1pm: The Aaron Rodgers love fest continues, so does Detroit’s losing streak.
Final: Packers 31 – Lions 14
New York Giants at St. Louis Rams 1pm: The only string that will end is the Rams 0 for 11 on 3rd down conversions. Outside of that, it’s all Giants.
Final: Giants 28 – Rams 7
New Orleans at Washington 1pm: The Skins offense wakes up this week, but the Saints defense holds them at bay.
Final: Saints 20 – Redskins 17
Buffalo at Jacksonville 1pm: The Jags need to get their ground game on track this week. The Bills give up a touchdown late in the game.
Final: Jags 24 – Bills 20
Tennessee at Cincinnati 1pm: Carson Palmer hooks up with Chad Johnson twice, Kerry Collins shows his age as the Bengals win and Vince Young remains the starter.
Final: Bengals 31 – Titans 10
Oakland at Kansas City 1pm: Five years ago this would’ve been a great game, now it’s nothing more than two bad teams playing for bragging rights. And Arrowhead Stadium will still sell out.
Final: Chiefs 21 – Raiders 14
Indianapolis at Minnesota 1pm: Two of this season’s sexier picks looked anything but attractive last week. Both offenses struggled against good defensive units. Hate to say it but this is a must win for both teams. I like the Colts in this one.
Final: Colts 35 – Vikings 24
Chicago at Carolina 1pm: Even minus Steve Smith, this should be an entertaining game. Both teams won huge games on the road and I expect this one to come down to the special teams – and you know what that means.
Final: Bears 24 – Panthers 20
Atlanta at Tampa Bay 4:05pm: Jon Gruden throws blitz after blitz at Matt Ryan, the kid hangs tough thanks to another big game from Michael Turner. Two picks come back to haunt the rook.
Final: Bucs 27 – Falcons 20
San Francisco at Seattle 4:05pm: The 49′ers have a golden opportunity on Sunday to make their mark on the division. The Seahawks are banged up and will be that way for awhile, we’ll see if the Niners can take advantage.
Final: Niners 28 - Seahawks 10
San Diego at Denver 4:15pm: The Bolts begin life this season without Shawne Merriman, while the Broncos welcome back wide out Brandon Marshall. Marshall and Eddie Royal will have their hands full against a gambling Charger secondary.
Final: Chargers 24 – Broncos 23
Miami at Arizona 4:15pm: Ever seen a dolphin survive in the desert? Me either.
Final: Cardinals 35 – Dolphins 10
New England at N.Y. Jets 4:15pm: We’ll see what the Brady-less Patriots are made of now. I’m curious to see what game plan Bill Belichick throws at Brett Favre.
Final: Patriots 20 – Jets 17
Pittsburgh at Cleveland 8:15pm: The Steelers take this one personal as they defend their claim as the best team in the AFC North.
Final: Steelers 24 – Browns 13
Monday September 15, 2008
Baltimore at Houston 8:30pm: Joe Flacco meet Mario Williams.
Final: Houston 21 – Ravens 12
Philadelphia at Dallas: I have to ask myself which team has more to prove this early in the season. For the Cowboys, it’s about the playoffs. For Donovan McNabb and the Eaglesit’s about getting back to the playoffs, in order to do that they have to go through the Cowboys.
Final: Eagles 28 – Cowboys 17
Wow Brett Favre plays on the grand stage yet again. It’s crazy how his career has played out.
Fly Eagles Fly
He comes out of retirement, gets traded to the Jets with the hopes of only making the team competitive. Tom Brady gets hurt for the season opening the door for a run at the division title, adding another chapter to his career.
If the Jets make the playoffs Madden will want all U.S. currency to read, “In Favre We Trust”
But the Bills should win the division.
Wow. Just what I’ve been waiting for.
A couple of quick ones…If I were a betting man, I’d take Buffalo in a huge surprise over Jacksonville. The Jags’ line has been decimated by injuries. The Bills are coming to town with Marcus Stroud. He was the anchor (along with John Henderson) of an awesome front line. The Bills are a team on the rise. I like them to wear the Jags out.
Can the Colts play a must-win Non-conference game in Week 2? Even if they lose, it will have no bearing whatsoever on their conference record?
Amen on the Chiefs-Raiders matchup. And, you’re damn-skippy about the Arrowhead sell out.
I made the same reference in the Bills and Jags power rankings. I really like the Bills to win this game but I thiink the Jags need it that much more. But it will be tough starting 2 backup guards.
But I like this Bills team.
Hey guys, love the new digs.
Think the Birds are fired up after T.O.’s latest rants. I swear don’t nobody “love him, like him”. I hope the America’s Team get their teeth kickt in after they maligned my Brownies last week.
EAGLES 28 COWPOKES 24
God, please let the Browns discover a pass rush. And quick, somebody get John Lynch and Ty Law on the Phone.
BROWNS 17 PUKESBURGH 31
You don’t need Lynch and Law. You need a time machine.
I’m shocked Shanahan went for two. You wonder why more NFL coaches don’t do the same. Ed Hochuli you blew the fumble call. That was no incomplete pass…definitely a fumble. He became the reason San Diego lost and as good as he is, that’s no excuse.
Hi – just wanted to say good design and blog .
