The thing I dislike the most (among many things) about these guys is their attempt to laugh everything off and just seem like aw-shucks, we’re-just-regular-guys-isn’t-this-funny-satire-ha-ha……when they KNOW much better. They KNOW what they’re venal, vile racists. They pass this off as aw-shucks fun, hoping that white people won’t call them on this….and too often, people don’t condemn this sort of thing. I posted this on Facebook and only one person commented on it. And they didn’t even condemn it. They said it was “sad.” It ain’t sad. It’s evil. I don’t know what it will take my white brethren to realize that, in the words of philosopher Edmund Burke “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” My friends are all much too comfortable and complacent. If McCain wins I don’t think he will be able to govern over the U.S. after an election and 50 years of race baiting by the GOP, this country will be as divided as it was at Appomattox because the majority of Afro- Americans ( outside David Mac and Kwaku will be happy nigras) will not take Mc Cain seriously NOR RESPECT him and Palin as President and V.P. I feel you on your thoughts about what these guys did because what irks me the most is how they tried to justify it. I’m all for spoofing public figures but images can be loaded with not-so-hidden meanings. If I created a kosher brand and put Joe Lieberman on the package with horns on either side of his yamulke I’d deserve to be called on the carpet on it. If I put Alberto Gonzales barefoot wearing a sombrero on a box of rice knowing how objectionable that imagery is then how can I say it’s for craps and giggles?
Let’s be real here and that’s directed at you David Mac and anyone else who says this is no big deal. When you put a caricature of a Black person with bulging eyes, big white teeth, and lips pulled back in a crap-eating grin on a box then you know what you’re stirring up and intellectual mis-direction does not work. You should be called for what you are and that is racist. Don’t whizz on my head and call it rain because it smells and I and others aren’t accepting it.

There is nothing racist about Uncle Ben or Aunt Jemima. There is nothing racist about caricatures of black people that have them with huge cheeks, noses, and lips, that is what caricatures are, exaggeration of features.
If you think the box of waffles with Obama on it in a suit and his facial features exaggerated is racist, then you should go and end yourself, because the man is after you.

These types of antics work because the Republicans ‘know what the score is’. Unfortunately, many may COMPLAIN, but far more DON”T EVEN BOTHER TO VOTE…
Look at this sobering fact: “eight million unregistered black voters accounts for 32 percent of eligible black voting population nationwide”…
And of the remaining two-thirds who are actually registered– approximately half of that two-thirds bother to vote…
So in MOST ELECTIONS (local, state or national) , at least 60 % of eligible voting age blacks DO NOT BOTHER TO VOTE. Maybe the assassinations of Kennedy(s), King, Malcolm, Medger and others may be in the back of our minds and some of this is pure apathy.
It REALLY hurts us in the SOUTH. The South shouldn’t me solidly Republican. When 60% of black voters don’t exercise their right, we see racist Republicans do BOLD stuff like this waffle thing or even change parties and go from Democrat to Rep (i.e Zell Miller, Joe Lieberman, Sonny Perdue..)
Blacks are the ultimate SWING VOTE–not exclusively white middle class folks as the ‘mainstream media’ try to say…There was a reason fifty years ago, racist whites in the South were afraid to even let blacks even REGISTER to vote– because of a day like this (2008)… however it seems the residue of a previous era still has our community in a sort of bondage…but if African-Americans wake up and exercise their basic rights that previous generations DIED for us to have, then the Republicans dirty tricks and jokes wouldn’t work in 2008.

Blacks are no where near the ultimate swing vote. Even if blacks voted in the 80% range, they wouldn’t be the ultimate swing vote, that is always going to be white men and white women, until they are no longer the biggest racial group.

You have no idea about the archetype of the African-American mammy, working as a slave, which was later converted into the campaign for syrup. It’s an archetype that you know VERY WELL, is playing on racist images and figures, in an effort to capitalize on the (unjustified) insecurities of white people. And the fact that the image of Obama exaggerated his features was done as has been done for many years by small-minded, racist white people in order to de-humanize black people, and ultimately to attempt to so discourage them that they wouldn’t get back up again.
Other racism: So the supposed “rap” (I put that term in quotation marks because it’s an insult to all MCs ever to really call that rap) that these two dudes put on the back of the box was not intended to demean an art form which originated among black people and which came from the oral culture black folks have kept alive for a long, long time. Those two buffoons were again devaluing and attemptin to make light of features of black life, while simultaneously grinnin’ and claiming otherwise. This is not good fun. Mentioning pointing toward Mecca? Good fun? And I bet you’re one of those dudes who would say, if a black person mentioned how badly (stereotypically) white folks dance, or how uptight we white people (stereotypically) are….HOW DARE THAT BLACK PERSON SAY THAT? Yes, Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, and the chef on the Cream of Wheat box are racist. Do a google search of how these images were cleaned up from the way they looked when they were introduced so yeah, when I see grinning bigots trying to make a dollar hawking products with a Black person caricatured like that then I’m going to call the BS for what it is. The fairness doctrine doesn’t apply with me when it comes to stuff like that because my hackles are going to raise up when people who don’t try to understand another culture think it’s alright to denigrate that same culture. Those two are rednecks pure and simple which is why I equate the Republican Party especially in the South with the KKK.
It’s also telling you didn’t bother to say it would have been alright if someone had caricatured Liberman or Gonzales. Very telling indeed.

Nice long post but it has no substance. If you were trying to make a point about Barrack, you failed. You did a lot of talking about what others actually accomplished but say very little about him.
3 years as a community organizer who did nothing, his own admission. Head of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which by the organizations own reports, accomplished nothing. As a local legislature, promoted bills to teach kids sex education in kindergarten and voted against a bill that would make it a law to save children who were born after failed abortion attempts, he stood alone against dems and repubs. In his time as a US Senator, he has authored and passed no major legislation. He has said that a qualification for being president is running his presidential campaign, if that is the case it reflects poorly on him, despite his record setting campaign fund raising he still falls behind against Republicans, he was until very recently almost broke, he still does not have enough money to support the DNC nor Democratic Senator campaign fund. So when you look at Barrack Hussein Obama, there is nothing there to indicate why he would be a good President, nothing he has accomplished and nothing he has said.
I’m sure you liberal facist love him, but most of America doesn’t embrace his ideology.

Republicans are not injecting race in the campaign Obama is, as a matter of fact McCain has actually been very kind to Obama. What do you think he is implying? Could it be he doesn’t look like all the other presidents on the dollar bill because he is black? He says he is for teaching kids sex ed, but when it comes up in the public a year later he says that was never his intention. He says he is for government funding on campaigns, then changes his mind. I could go on and on, but Republicans hammer him on all these points. Lets not forget his statement after 9/11 on feeling empathy for the terrorist, which I hear will be used in a big ad as the election draws down.
What is “Uncle Tom” about having respect for yourself, a concept of personal responsibility, and a solid belief in right and wrong, limited government, and less taxation? It leads to me think that you must not know what “Uncle Tom” means, don’t worry though, there are a lot of people on this site who are ignorant of this fact as well. As for standing for a lynching, who is getting lynched? Take off the tin foil hate, walk out of the house, and open your eyes to the new world that we live in today.

A couple of problems with your first paragraph. Knowing blacks does not equate with knowing the hearts and minds of the black race, because it is not a collective. You really need to come to the understanding that Black Americans are not one large homogenous group that all thinks the same, shares the same experiences, and hold the same outlook on life. Like everyone else on the planet, Black Americans are individuals.
Your Republican claims are so groundless and puerile, I will not even attempt to make a solid response to them all, because it would most likely go over your head.
