Ron Glover’s NFL Recap: Week 5

Clinton Portis gashed the vaunted Philadelphia Eagles defense for 145 yards (203 total team) and a touchdown as the Washington Redskins improved to 4-1 with a 23-17 victory over the Eagles yesterday. The win was the Skins fourth in a row.
Pittsburgh 26 - Jacksonville 21: Gotta tip my hat to Mike Tomlin for regrouping the Steelers to win two physical games after the pounding they took in Philly.
Arizona 41 - Buffalo 17: I’m trying to figure out this Cardinals team. The Bills lost Trent Edwards early due to a concussion.
New England 30 - San Francisco 21: Randy Moss caught his first TD pass since Week 1. Now Matt Cassel is throwing the deep ball?
Dallas 31 - Cincinnati 22: The Bengals were in a prime spot to pull off the upset, Chris Perry’s fumble changed that. What’s up with Chad Johnson mugging for the camera’s w/T.O. and Jerry Jones?
Denver 16 - Tampa Bay 13: Guess the Broncos got tired of hearing all of the offense only talk.
Atlanta 27 - Green Bay 24: Anyone still marking off games against the Falcons with a “W”.
N.Y. Giants 44 - Seattle 6: The Giants can plug me into that offense and not miss a beat.
Washington 23 - Philadelphia 17: The Skins are the second best team in the division and possibly the NFC. Philadelphia is in trouble.
Indianapolis 31 - Houston 27: I tip my hat to Sage Rosenfels for trying to make a play but for goodness sakes, slide man!
Chicago 34 - Detroit 7: Kyle Orton spread the ball around to eight different receivers on a career day.
Carolina 34 - Kansas City 0: Herm Edwards aged 10 years yesterday.
Tennessee 13 - Baltimore 10: Joe Flacco turned a winnable game into his own personal hell. Two interceptions, one on a potential game -winning drive.
Miami 17 - San Diego 10: What can (Ronnie) Brown do for you? Anything at this point.

What the hell is up with the Eagles red zone offense? They have given up 2 easy ones to Washington and Chicago. They should be sitting up there at 4-1 instead of in the basement. Please explain.

Seven chances inside the 5 yd line. Seven run plays were called. Not one QB sneak, no spread offense nothing to throw off the defense.
In the Bears game, I would’ve put Dan Kleco in at fullback or at tight end and rolled the pocket. They could’ve run a number of plays. In training camp they worked on an endzone fade pass with Hank Baskett. What happened to that.
We all can think of something that would’ve been better than what they’ve been running.

With respect to Eagles and Skins…Memo to Andy Reid how bout converting on third down…the defense got beaten up because they were on the damned field too long. I don’t care how politically correct they get….the offense screwed over the defense against the Redskins….

Ronnie Brown is going to make me a great deal of money in 2008. The Cardinals are excellent at home - remember how they played against the Bears for 58 minutes. Steelers surprised me…No Parker, Mendenhall, Keisel or Hampton.
I think Philly will be fine. They might not make the playoffs - especially since Washington should be 7-1 soon. Either way, I like the Eagles to find their center.
Did you see Chadiha’s thing on the Chiefs? 17 rookies…

I told yall that the Steelers would beat the Jags because the Jags wouldn’t be able to run the ball.

How about those Redskins?

True Chris Murray.
Temple as I said before the season that the eagles weren’t going to make it.
Reid/Mous Davis Jr. is a fool.
This dude drafts a backup QB because “Mcnabb has injury problems” but never drafts a true backup RB when Westbrook has been known to have injury problems.
This is mcnabb’s last year because the hateful fand and ignorant media will make sure. It should be no reason that the eagles once again pass the ball over 70% of the time.
Now westbrook is hurt with cracked ribs and might not play.
So let me guess reid will pass the ball 80% against the 49ers.
I just want Mcnabb to make it through this season without getting killed on the field. Cause passing the ball that much will certainly get your QB killed.

Origin:
We’ll see. I have historically dissed the Iggles because I felt they needed a power runner, but I believe if they get healthy at WR, this team will go on a run. If Curtis and Brown get on the field with Jackson, Westbrook and LJ Smith, this team will score 35 with one hand tied behind their backs, pushing a 500-pound man up an icy hill — on one leg.
If they don’t get healthy, they’ll lose.
