Friday Fire: Top Ten Players In the NBA

mvps Friday Fire: Top Ten Players In the NBA

The NBA season is fast approaching. I’ll get right to my list:

Kobe Bryant–the best player in the game regardless of position. Unstoppable.

LeBron James–Not quite player number 1a, but he’ll possibly be the best ever when it’s all said and done.

Dwyane Wade–Covering USA Basketball this summer, I saw something different in his eye. He’s my 2008-2008 NBA MVP.

Chris Paul–Will wreck shop and prove last season was no fluke. Could average 13 assists a game.

Tim Duncan–Timmay is as consistent an athlete we’ve ever seen. Bank shot is money.

Kevin Garnett–AG I tried to tell you and Smallwood that Boston was going to do it. Now that it’s done, it’s time to think of KG’s place in history.

Dwight Howard–If he worked on his game like I think he has, who is gonna stop him. He will bang on anyone in the league with power.

Manu Ginobli–Will break down your defense and boof it on your whole squad. One of the highest point per minute averages in the lig.

Carmelo Anthony–If Melo ever develops a total game his talent is limitless.

Yao Ming–Dude, he’s 10 foot tall! Stay on the floor Yao and you’ll move up the list quick.

Shaking my head….. Unfortunately I don’t have time to argue this today, but seriously, Yao? Melo? Really…..

  2. Mizzo Says:

Who you putting in their spots? I’m open. Seriously. You know my aim is to start a discussion.

  3. Okori Says:

    ok…. I’ll answer that.

Deron Williams goes in place of Carmelo.

    and for Yao….. Tony Parker.

  4. Co Co Says:

Tell me what the criteria is for this list. Is it based on the supporting cast of said player, team success, overall career, last season? Melo isn’t even the best player on his team, nor is Yao so I really don’t see how they fit in here. But, it is your list. :P

  5. Mizzo Says:

If I have a capable pg I’m sticking with ‘Melo. Centers are hard to find. McGrady has to do something to get NBA respect. He worked out in the first round last year but still ended up home. He’s George Gervin to Kobe’s Doc.

  6. Co Co Says:

See Mike, in my mind in order for you to be top ten you have to be able to impose your game no matter what supporting cast you have. You just put a stipulation on Melo. He’s a very good player, but again he’s not even the best player on his team. The best player on Melo’s team should be on this list regardless of the criteria you used, but that’s just my opinion. Just because Yao is one of the only “true centers” left that doesn’t automatically earn him a top ten ranking overall. So you’re looking me in my computer’s eye and telling me if you could have any 10 players in the league these are the 10 you’d choose? ;)

  7. Temple3 Says:

WOW. Paul Pierce carries the C’s on his back at both ends of the court and can’t get a stitch of love. Ouch, ouch, ouch!!!!

  8. Mizzo Says:

Co Co chill baby girl! This is my list. I’d be cool with that ten. Where’s yours? :p

Melo and Pierce were a toss up.

  9. Temple3 Says:

Aside from Pierce, Iverson, Boozer, and Amare would get the nod ahead of Yao for me. Dwight Howard is probably one of the 10 best players, but his game is simply not well-rounded enough yet. He’s a terrible free throw shooter which means he’s a Nowhere Man in the 4th quarter of big games.

I really like Carmelo, but aren’t there 10 guys that already have all-around games in the league?

Doesn’t Paul Pierce essentially play the same game — on a higher level - on both sides of the court?

  10. Co Co Says:

My top ten list would vary depending on what criteria is used. I mean like I said, are we talking about overall career, team success, individual stats, last season? There are a lot of factors to consider and I honestly haven’t given it much thought, but I do know Yao and Melo wouldn’t be on it. LOL

  11. Mizzo Says:

I’m not sold on Paul. Yes, he did do the damn thing in the Finals, but up until that point, he was like George Gervin too.

Maybe he was waiting for some talent to shine. Paul Pierce is a monster.

Allen Iverson has lost his effectiveness in Denver. He’s just not the same player in Colorado. I need more than buckets.

Boozer? Maybe this year but not yet.

    Amare I can deal with.

  12. Mizzo Says:

Put your list up lady! LOL

  13. Co Co Says:

A I has lost his effectiveness??????? Wow.

  14. Co Co Says:

Like I said, I’d have to decide what the criteria is first. :P

  15. Temple3 Says:

You’re buggin. Dude plays 42 minutes a night, drops 26+ a game, is 8th in steals and still gives it up on every play. Iverson is still Iverson. Maybe the Nuggets need a true point to facilitate their offense and get shots to people, but he’s still the man.

  16. Temple3 Says:

You might wanna delete that post about AI before folks gather around.

  17. killa cam Says:

dog i agree with u boozer is a bum just look at the olympics and iverson is not better than melo so please stop that nonsense

  18. killa cam Says:

now if anything they should be blasting u bout the ginobli thing cuz he is not top ten but he is a good player but mos def not top ten i can give u 5 people better than him more if i had patience enough to type all that lol but for 1.Dirk (although he is a choke artist but he is better than manu) 2.Steve Splash as i call him3.B_diddy 4.big shot billups and 5.Joe Johnson or like metioned amare PURE BEAST

  19. GrandNubian Says:

Nice list Mizz and I agree with 8 out of 10.

Unfortunately, Ginobli and Yao wouldn’t be on my list. I’d take Pierce, AI and maybe Baron Davis ahead of those two. And once Greg Oden wins “ROY”, i’m taking him over Yao…..hell, I might even do that right now. :-)

  20. Arvin Says:

that’s a good list. I would rank Deron Williams, David West, Nash, A.I., paul pierce,& joe johnson over Carmelo and Manu.

Manu is injury prone and a bit past his prime. Also the crackdown on flopping will def. hurt his game. Carmelo does nothing but score! don’t get me wrong, he’s one of the best scorers but other than that he doesn’t get many boards, blocks, or play good defense. Maybe he’ll get better at those areas.

    Good job!@

  21. MODI Says:

Also agree with 8 of 10. Yao has to stay because of the lack of centers and its importance. He was also dominating pre-injury.

I also put Amare, Boozer, Dirk, & Bosh ahead of Melo and Manu. can’t figure out which two, but I know that big men are the key to rings while small guys are just more fun to watch…

T3, if Dwight ever develops one or two go-to post moves, he instantly becomes the best player in the NBA IMHO. He is top 10 just on athleticism and heart.

  22. origin Says:

Sorry brotha but there is no way Manu is better then Pierce, Tracy, AI, Yao, Amare, Bosh, Dirk or Baron Davis.

All these dudes you can have as leaders of a team and they can pretty much take a team to the playoffs. I just don’t believe that Manu has even been that good.

Manu has had the benefit of playing with Duncan. And even though Manu puts up great stats. He11 every guard has put up great stats playing with Duncan. Does steven Jackson and Derek Anderson ring a bell.

Duncan has taken as many avg to above avg guards to the finals, as Jordan has taken avg to above avg centers to the finals.

    LOL!!!!

  23. HarveyDent Says:

    Here’s my top ten:

    1. Michael Jordan
    2. Magic Johnson
    3. Larry Bird
    4. Charles Barkley
    5. Patrick Ewing
    6. Karl Malone
    7. Isaiah Thomas
    8. Reggie Miller
    9. Dominique Wilkins
    10. Scotty Pippen

Oh my bad, I thought we were talkin’ 1988.

Oh well, like the list especially Dwayne Wade because for some reason I think he’s going to get a bounce from the Olympics, being completely healthy, and having a new stud to run with in Michael Beasley. Look for the Heat to make some noise this year along with the Hawks, Sixers, and Blazers. I think this may be the year balance comes to the NBA in both conferences. Can’t wait for the All-Star game.

  24. GrandNubian Says:

    LOL@ 2Face…….

    @MODI

“Also agree with 8 of 10. Yao has to stay because of the lack of centers and its importance. He was also dominating pre-injury.”

I understand your argument regarding lack of centers but i’m not sure if I agree. If we’re ranking per position then I may have to agree with you.

On another note….I forgot all about Chris Bosh. I would definitely take him over Yao. Boozer, too.

  25. Azn/Filo Pride Says:

nice list man although here is what i thought the list should have been.
“I dont possibly know why people think that Kobe is number 1. LeBron is way more versatile than Kobe and therefore should be number 1.

    1.LeBron James
    2.Kobe Bryant
    3.Chris Paul
    4.Dwyane Wade
    5.Allen Iverson
    6.Tim Duncan
    7.Kevin Garnett
    8.Paul Pierce
    9.Gilbert Arenas
    10.Dwight Howard

  26. Mizzo Says:

Maybe this is the season, but not yet.

  27. ricky Says:

    its true

  28. slim Says:

its 7 out of 10….errrrrr the last three on your list were not good enough to have thier spot on the top 10 id rather choose Kidd for Manu and Al Jefferson for Yao and Dirk for Melo….

  29. kobe fan! Says:

nba top ten is always jordan as number 1,
    and kobe as number 2.
so what the hell that lebron would be better than kobe.
