In Florida these events have been happening all too frequently, but it never happens to a brotha like me. And Since Obama ran and is coming closer the neanderthals are coming out of the woodwork. Exactly, ED, self-defense is the height of sanity and sadly the only thing certain segments of this country understand is violence. I’m a strong proponent of the rule of law but let someone roll up on me and mines with malice in his heart and I’m going to do what I have to do.
My cousin always used to tell me that if a racist skinhead ever came his way he’d snap his neck because he’d rather get him first before he got him. I saw Toni Morrison interviewd on 60 Minutes and she said she always wonders when the white power structure will come and take her and us away again. Our assimilated brethren can scoff at this as paranoia but incidents like this in FL only drive that point home to me. So even though I truly hate violence and guns I’ll be that wild-eyed nigra and take down any fool that comes at me because my skin is black as night and I rock my ‘locs down my back.

When I was in high school, I had the pleasure of intruding on one European dude harrassing two African females, while we took it to the street, rumour had it that I had dangled the SOB off a bridge by his neck!

What needs to happen here is a White philanthropist or a predominantly White church group needs to step up and help that girl pay her rehab bills or something. Maybe start a charity. Something to show that the opinions of that man were not the norm. Unfortunately these are the incidents that breed counterviolence, unless the gap is bridged immediately.

Eric — more guns are not the answer. They’re never the answer. Gandhi, MLK, and the latter-stage Malcolm X taught us that. The answer is for black men and women is to become better educated and to use the system, as it currently exists, for their own betterment, the way that Indians, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, and so many other minorities do in America. The system can only be changed from within (Obama’s heroic efforts the most notable example currently). To preach angrily and advocating every black man, woman, and child to roam around with a hair triggered temper, half squeezing the trigger of a gun, is absurd and myopic.

Just a little information sharing here, no other ethnic group, people, culture or civilization has experienced the genocidal rage and destruction like the African people. You are correct though in that we need education, but real world education, not relying on intellectualization and book speak to over come “White Supremacy”. Real world education tells that if some one puts a hand on you, you make sure they don’t do it to you or anybody else again. It’s not just self defence, it’s also intelligence. I always argued Sankofa’s point with a friend of mine that the lack of defined history did hobble Africans in the USA. Immigrants of other races and ethnic groups know where they come from but I’m spitting in the wind if I say my people are from West Africa. What does that mean because I can’t go back to my county as they do in Ireland or my canton as the Swiss can. That psychic disconnect can be fatal and as one of my history professor’s told me it’s a testament to our ancestors resolve from the first slave ship through Reconstruction through Jim Crow that Blacks of the Diaspora have been able to carve out our own unique culture. History does inform the future despite what my assimilated brethren might say because as long as things like this happen in FL to this young lady or WV to Megan Williams or TX to James Byrd I know self-defense or violence if you prefer is the best way to deal with such bigots. I’m not trying to love anyone who has to be convinced I’m a human being. If they haven’t learned that in the 21st century then I’m damn sure not the one to teach them.

Miranda, I would have confronted the bastard just like I did when two skinheads tried to beat my ass when I was walking home from work a few years ago. ironically the reason I carry a weapon (knife, screwdriver, box cutter) because I was mugged by 6 black men when I was in my 20’s coming home from my girlfriend’s house. And because I’m not a frothing NRA nut advocating gun ownership as the first retreat of the fearful, that means I’m an “assimilated negro?” By that of course you mean a tool. Please note that African people in the west have always stood up when confronted with violence, examples being Rosewood and Tulsa Oklahoma. What has slowed that role is the advocacy of the type of European specific religious teachings that tell us to act like sheeps instead of MEN. Poll any member of a different ethnic group, the majority would tell you a man defends his honour, his family, his culture and his social frame work.
The minority that tries to run the world are a group of deranged, psychopathic cowardly murderers, who must be made to realize that getting their way will from now on not be easy. In fact, I have yet to see the human being who wouldn’t be slowed by a good physical beating. When we get their attention, then we can dialogue as equals.
I also want to expand on something I said in a earlier post. Just because the original African culture and social fabric was decimated, does not mean we cannot still be creative. We can rebuild what was lost, because culture is really what you are doing now. We just want to re-build a healthy one.

You know…some people are just mentally disturbed. There are good and bad people in all races…it’s not just defined to one race. I HATE that there are people out there that target certain races…LIVE AND LET LIVE!! I don’t see this black woman as a black woman, but rather as just a woman who did not deserve this. But she is forgiving so BRAVO to her! More people should have the same mentality. I hope she has mended and is able to move on. My best goes out to her.
