Ron Glover’s NFL Recap: Week 7
Ron Glover’s NFL Player of the Week

St Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson rushed for 160 yards on 25 carries as the Rams shocked the visiting Dallas Cowboys 34-14 yesterday.
The win was interim coach Jim Haslett’s second consecutive win over an NFC East opponent in as many weeks.
Rams 34 – Cowboys 14:
Steven Jackson looked like the player the Rams signed to an extension this summer. Jim Haslett may have just won the coaching job.
Raiders 16 – Jets 13 Upset Special:
No breakout game for Jamarcus Russell, Thomas Jones (24 carries 159 yards) was huge in a losing effort.
Bears 48 – Vikings 41:
The Bears defense (2 TDs) and special teams (1 TD) were the difference in a huge division win.
Steelers 38 – Bengals 10:
Mewelde Moore scored three toudowns (2 rushing, 1 receiving) as the Steelers prepare for the Giants next week.
Ravens 27 – Dolphins 13:
The Ravens defense scored and shut down the Dolphins running attack, while the offense controlled the clock as the Ravens get back to .500.
Texans 28 – Lions 21:
Andre Johnson has his second consecutive game of 100+ yards receiving.
Buccaneers 20 – Seahawks 10:
The co-leaders of the NFC South looked solid once again last night.
Giants 29 - Niners 17:
The G-Men stopped two potential scoring drives by picking off J.T. O’Sullivan .
Panthers 30 – Saints 7:
The Saints missed a big opportunity to gain ground in the division yesterday.
Packers 34 – Colts 14:
Just when I’m ready to put the Colts on the comeback trail, they lay an egg. The Packers stay tied with the Bears for the division lead.
Redskins 14 – Browns 11:
Clinton Portis was the difference in a game that the Skins could’ve easily dropped.
Bills 23 – Chargers 14:
The Chargers are far from a Super Bowl contender, barely a playoff team.
Titans 33 – Chiefs 10:
The Titans outrushed the Chiefs 332 to 58 as LenDale White and Chris Johnson both ran for over 140 yards.
We suck right now. [The shear force of Mizzo's cackling laughter destroys every window in a 2 mile radius.]
Did you notice that Dallas, Washington, Arizona and St. Louis all played one another over the past few weeks. (Arizona plays at St. Louis in Week 9).
Dallas (0-3).
Washington (2-1).
Arizona (1-1).
St. Louis (1-1).
Wow – Backfoot Brett throws 2 picks, Jets waste 150 yards from Jones and you let him off the hook? Sup wit dat??
Bucs looked great. I’ve gotta say, though, that Seattle’s defense really competed the entire game. I’m amazed they played that hard given their offenses’ inability to move the ball. If they get Hasselbeck and Branch out of street clothes for a month or two, they might rattle off a few. Maurice Morris looked great too.
I like Steven Jackson is always going to give it to the Cowboys for drafting scrub-ass Julius Jones ahead of him.
Just a thought about the Chargers. I agree they don’t look so hot right now, but they’re still in a great position. 3-3 in the conference. Tennessee is 5-0. Pitt is 5-0. Buffalo is 3-0. You’ve gotta like all 3 of those teams making the playoffs. Indy is 2-1, but they clearly need to step it up. New England is 2-2, and the Chargers beat them head-to-heaed. After that, everyone else in the conference has at least 3 losses.
SD will likely beat the Hochuli out of Denver in San Diego. The loser of tonite’s game will have no less than 3 conference losses. San Diego still controls their own destiny. I don’t know that they do much more than they have so far. LT and Gates are simply not 100 or even 80%. Without Chambers, there offense is left to weak-armed QB with two 6’5″ receivers that can barely catch. They’re a mess — but the only thing in their way is health and jet lag.
After London, it’s a much-needed bye, Chiefs and home, at Pitt, then 3 home games (Colts, Falcons, Raiders). The Chargers (if they win across the pond) could be 8-5 going to Kansas City in Week 15 before finishing up at Tampa and home against Denver. 10-6 gets in and it’s probably good enough to win the division.
9-7 and they’re at home watching the first round with Ron Glover.
Does any non-African American QB get less respect than Jeff Garcia? I’ve followed this guy’s career ever since he took over for Steve Young in ’99 and all he seems to do is win when he has pieces around him. He took the Eagles and the Bucs to the playoffs in consecutive seasons and what did he get for his troubles? Ran out of Philly when McNabb came back and the bench when in Tampa when he got salty with Gruden. I don’t know if the guy will ever win a Super Bowl but I love the way he competes and he could be a good role model to young QB’s like VY or Tavaris Jackson to play with a chip on their shoulders and a bad attitude and they’ll eventually succeed too.
Oh yeah, Frerotte tossed 4 INT’s yesterday but I wonder what Childress saw in his eyes that still keeps him as the starter in Minny.
True Harvey.
Man Gus is gonna get pass after pass. As long as the good ole boy fans and media are behind him.
Remember that time the media and fans wanted Charlie Batch pulled in Detroit. They pull him and put in Koy detmer the next game. Koy turns around and throws 6 INTs in the game in a lose. But still gets to keep the starting gig.
I swear gus can throw 6 in the next game and no one will say crap.
Exactly, O. I guess Herm Edwards was wrong because many of these so-called coaches don’t play to win the game.
Temple,
Don’t think for a second that I’m letting Favre off the hook. He’s got it comin’
HD,
I really believe that if the Eagles would’ve held on to Garcia, McNabb would’ve been gone that following season.
RG:
I guess the Jets losing to the Raiders out there is fine. I think they’ve won out there once or twice in 30 years. I think the Raiders really feel like it would be beyond embarassing to lose to the Jets. (Worst loss in Steeler franchise history – to the Jets (1-8) last year. Absolutely awful.) Maybe Brett is getting infected.
BTW, I remember saying a while back that I thought the Broncos were a weak squad. They’re looking weaker by the minute. Two of their wins were gifts from the referees (San Diego, New Orleans). They escaped against the Buccaneers, but played a solid game. The lone convincing win of the season was in Week 1 vs. the Raiders. (I think that’s why I didn’t think too highly of Tampa.)
The Broncos lost 3 of 4. If I were the Chargers, I wouldn’t be too worried about Denver. They have a long way to go. The schedule is going to ease up a bit, but they need to play a solid 60 minutes. Last night was a debacle. I know that Shanahan usually considers Belichick to be his East Coast Bitch (Raider coach of the moment is his perennial West Coast Bitch), but damn!!
Harvey:
That’s an interesting point about Garcia. Maybe it’s the surname.
