The Brett Favre Detroit Story and ESPN Starring As the Grave Digger (ESPN Press Release Added Below 10/22)

Did Brett Favre call the Lions earlier this season and give Detroit a 60-90 minute run down of the Packers offense? According to Fox Sports Jay Glazer this definitely went down. Favre has denied the report but Glazer stood by his words during an appearance on Jim Rome’s show yesterday. Favre’s alleged information didn’t amount to much because the Lions were blown out 48-25. No wonder Millen got fired.

You think this would be major news to ESPN? Uh…no. Check the site for a buried mention. What’s up with that? ESPN has a shot to report on something that actually affects play on the field and neglects to do so? Hmmm makes you wonder doesn’t it? What’s the real deal going on over there? Will the real editor please speak up?

Is Brett your meal ticket? The original Joe the Plumber has been a fixture of nauseous upstanding reverence by practically everyone at the four letter from Chris Berman to Skip Bayless–the one notable exception being Jemele Hill. Just like the athletes you love to criticize, you’ve opened yourself up to the same visceral scrutiny. Get off Brett Favre’s jock. What he did was straight bitch shit because it’s something men just don’t do. Especially when you’ve been propped up to be this “tough guy”. Brett you got burnt by the Pack’s front office, so take it like a man and move on.

Charles Woodson has spoken out and isn’t so chill with his words: “I don’t respect that. I know he’s been the greatest player around here for a long time, but there’s no honor in that.”

Donald Driver, you are on the clock. Where’s your criticism?

Lets see how they spin this one.

October 22: This is a press release from ESPN after the non report one of the commenters (Dalke Geedz ) alluded to:

Like all reports that come in, we gave careful consideration to this one, but we couldn’t confirm it. Its obviously a judgment call and given the nature of the story, we needed to bring a lot of sensitivity to our reporting and do what we felt was the most responsible thing. We will continue to monitor it, and to be very clear, our approach had nothing to do with the outlet that originally reported this.

Thoughts?

    Paging Brownnosers Berman and Madden…

  2. This is big news. Its a lead story for certain. Good to see that TSF has it covered!

  3. ronglover says:

I’m willing to bet Favre’s incriminating statement will be, “Players do this to their former teams all the time.”

  4. ronglover says:

Wonder how many diehards up in Green Bay are still drinking the Favre-Aid!

  5. Matthew Fudge says:

Still too many to count, Ronglover.

  6. ronglover says:

    I was afraid of that.

  7. Matthew Fudge says:

No need to be. He can shoot somebody on the football field, and they’ll say the victim was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

  8. ronglover says:

Wonder if he talked to Tony Romo before the Dallas game.

Speaking as a native cheesehead, die-hard Packer Backer through the lean years an all… this is disgusting. I don’t want his number retired ever.

To be honest, it is almost more embarrassing for us fans who were blind to his diva bullshit all along. We didn’t want to see what was right in front of our eyes, namely, that he was a self-obsessed, arrogant, dick who knowingly coasted on his undeserved reputation of being an aw shucks wholesome feller from the holler was always only playing for the fun. Naw brah… he was always playing for the ONE, for B. Favre.

He never reached out to rookies, never taught anyone, never showed true leadership in terms of helping to create team chemistry or showing what a professional does by accepting valid criticism from his coaches. Naw, he was always above that. And now he’s above simple codes of decency. And of course he’ll lie about it all some more.

I thought it was petty to wish him bad luck after he left the Packers. Now I’ll gladly accept the lower draft pick the G will get if the Jets tank.

    Oh yeah, and Woodson, warrior.
As for Driver. . . I understand this longing for him to cut the cord, too. But why not cut him some slack? For all the punishment Favre caused him throwing high hot ones up the middle, hasn’t he suffered enough for Brett? Let “no comment” be sufficient. Indeed, he’s displaying precisely the trait that Favre fails at so fabulously, he’s got loyalty, even when it isn’t deserved. That take class, too, sometimes. We should honor that, no?

    As for ESPN? Wankers.
Peter King? Can’t hear him with Favre’s d*** in his mouth.

Sorry to be so crass, but this story absolutely disgusts me and it serves as such a horrible example for the youth – not only in terms of Favre’s behavior, but in ESPN ignoring it all for the sake of their “great white hope” myths.

    Yo mizzo –

Give ‘em hell. And check out PFT — he was sent a memo from an ESPN mole that is a no-report order on this story.

  11. Eric Daniels says:

I am tired of reading about or hearing Brett Farve and Green Bay in the same sentence, Farve reminds me of a hooker pinning for “her pimp”. If Farve did this he will make his typical good ole boy excuse, “All we did was talk about hunting”. Brett Farve is like the John Wayne of Football, people think he’s greater than he really is and he’s not on Elway’s Staubach, or Bradshaw’s level as a QB.

  12. Miranda says:

Ummm….I think Oh Sangjin pretty much summed it all for me, except I was never a diehard Packers fan…but the rest…ahh, yep…what he said.

  13. Kevin says:

Nothing but a bunch of idiots on here.

  14. I am totally disgusted by this development in the TT vs. Farve saga. Farve is so hell-bent on getting back at TT for what?…..comming in here and turning around a TEAM that was ALMOST run into the ground by Mike Sherman and a poor decision by Bob Harlan. For Gods sake who does BF think he is…. the GM?… REQUESTING that TT sign aging OL Marco Rivera and past his time Mike Whale, sign a guy that took a good team in San Fran and slowly drove it into the dirt…Steve Mariuchi…. hey I like him also … but head coach … Not!… and to bring a wide reciever that flat out DISRESPECTED the fans of Green Bay by mooning them….. all REQUESTED by God…. err I mean Farve…..I commend TT for saying …. hay you dont run this TEAM ….. the GM does…..look at us … the youngest Team in the league …. 3yrs running and …. they look pretty good to me with a new QB…. just wait till this TEAM gels this fall…I can’t help but think what might have been if Rodgers was in the situation Farve was in in the Giant game…….maybe a Superbowl for the Pack…..I’ll take a Game Manager everytime over a Gunslinger……so in short…. Brett could’nt handle someone finally telling him … NO!….. Childish at best!!….Go pack!!

  15. Mizzo says:

Kevin would you care to elaborate?

    Debate with substance.

    Don’t take it personal, it’s just R-E-A-L-I-T-Y

  16. Packer Fan says:

    Favre sucks….
1st he says he never talked to Detroit, then the proof comes out and he admits to the conversation but says he only lalked about hunting. Are we all idiots?
    DO NOT RETIRE #4
We can’t stop him from getting into the HOF, but we can keep him out of the GB hall.

No Favre in GB hall of fame!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Matthew Fudge says:

Doesn’t matter if he admitted it or not. Ol’ boy has too many media heads in his back pocket, so he won’t really catch the heat he deserves. Typical.

  18. thebrotherreport says:

Packer Fan I see where you’re coming from, unfortunately you’ve got the numbers against you.

Thanks for not eating the Favre-Aid.

  19. Big Man says:

Favre admitted to talking to them after first denying the report.
    Here’s the kicker

He claimed they mostly talked about hunting and bulldozers. And ESPN put that story up on their site.

    Complete bullshit.
