get-off-me Ron Glovers NFL Recap: Week 9

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was able to bounce back from dismal start, (3 for 13 including an interception) to finish 25 for 30 for a total of 349 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Eagles climb out of the NFC East cellar with a 26-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Colts 18 - Patriots 15: Both teams looked afraid to go for the big play.

Eagles 26 - Seahawks 7: Thankfully, Seattle’s 90 yard touchdown on the game’s first play was not a forecast for the remainder of the day.

Giants 35 - Cowboys 14: Ladies and Gentlemen, your last place Dallas Cowboys. Expect a physical Eagles/Giants matchup in South Philly next Sunday night.

Falcons 24 - Raiders 0: Keep it movin’ folks, nothin’ to see here!

Dolphins 26 - Broncos 17: The Dolphins have the upper hand in the AFC East despite being a game back (wins over NE and Buffalo). The Broncos have been officially cast as frauds.

Bengals 21 - Jaguars 19: The Bengals earned a tough one at home. As for the Jags, I’ve all but written them off.

Tampa Bay 30 - Chiefs 27: The one thing I will say about this Chiefs team is that they have not layed down on Herm Edwards.

Cardinals 34 - Rams 13: With Tim Hightower starting at running back, can this offense be slowed down?

Titans 19 - Packers 16: Good teams win games like this, Donald Driver played one hell of a game in a losing effort.

Ravens 37 - Browns 27: Terrell Suggs scored killed any chance of a Browns comeback.

Bears 27 - Lions 23: The Lions showed plenty of teeth in this one. Bears fans are praying Kyle Orton’s injury isn’t serious.

Jets 26 - Bills 17: Thanks to great play by the secondary, the Jets were able to move into a three-way tie in the AFC East.

Vikings 28 - Texans 21: With a win the Vikings are a game behind the Bears for the division lead and the Texans had their 3-gane win streak snapped.

I was doing fine — early — and then…BANG, BANG, BANG!!!!!

Kansas City, Cleveland and Buffalo went up in flames in a hurry!

Wow. I was really ready to talk some smack about the Bucs and Broncos - but Tampa got up off the carpet. I still think they’re mediocre, but they’re winning close games. This win, and the Chicago win, are games that weak teams usually lose. They won and are probably going to the playoffs again.

As for Chicago, “Rex is our quarterback.” :)

How about Thigpen getting behind Ronde Barber on that TD pass. Better still the pass thrown by the wideout a friggin’ strike.

  3. Mizzo Says:

    I can’t wait until Sunday.

  4. Temple3 Says:

The Steelers are 0-2 vs. the NFC East so far. Big game tonite. A loss here would be very bad news for this team. Maybe Jason Campbell throws his first INTs of the season tonite.

Philly-Giant game is going to be EPIC!!!!

  5. thebrotherreport Says:

6-3 would look a hell of alot better than 5-4. This game is going to fall on the Eagles secondary. They have to keep the Giants receivers occupied so the rush can get to Manning.

They’ve done a decent job the past few weeks against the run but it has to continue. They have their work cut out for them this week.

  6. Temple3 Says:

Honestly, I think the biggest weight on the Eagles will be on getting into the end zone. They’re going to have to score touchdowns to win the game. The Giants have done a solid job of keeping teams out of the end zone and if Akers is busy on Sunday, you’re going to lose.

  7. des Says:

Wonder how Culpepper or Leftwich would have looked in a Cowboy uni yesterday?

  8. Temple3 Says:

If they got rid of the ball quickly, they’d have looked great. If they held on to it, as they’ve been known to do, they’ve have looked like pancakes. Giants are tough right now. Mewelde Moore ran well against them, but Ben threw 2 picks…They’re vulnerable to power running and deep passes. They can be beaten.

  9. Mizzo Says:

Des why must you joke? ;)

  10. Temple3 Says:

The Cowboys need a true slot receiver to play opposite Witten and open up the deep middle. TO and the Legend are excellent on the outside. Barber and Jones are great. Crayton and Austin, though, leave a bit to be desired. When Romo gets back, it’ll be business as usual times 10. Get ‘em now and kick ‘em while they’re down because Week 11 will be the beginning of some Texas-sized ass kicking.

I just heard that AI was traded to the Pistons. Anyone know the low down and that move?

  12. GrandNubian Says:

    It’s AI for Billips.

  13. Mizzo Says:

About to post it now. I was waiting for confirmation.

  14. des Says:

C’mon Miz, a decent backup, and the Cowboys wouldn’t be so worried right about now. Forget Brad Johnson, Brooks Bollinger? The man who wasn’t as good as Tavaris Jackson? Serves ‘em right.

  15. Mizzo Says:

Damn right it does. You hear that D?

  16. HarveyDent Says:

Damn, that Steelers’ D is the straight truth and Leftwich came off the bench throwing like his last name was Lidge. So much for that long windup of his the so-called experts keep harping on. I hope the young man has set himself up with a chance to compete for a starter’s job somewhere next season.

Don’t have a feel yet for the Giants vs. the Eagles because the Eagles’ ongoing trouble in the red zone still have me nervous while the fact Plax abuses the Eagles’s corners every time he plays them doesn’t help my nervous stomach. That being said, the Giants still have a sub par secondary which can be had by the speed of Desean Jackson and Kevin Curtis. Mix that outside speed with TE passes down the seam to Celek and LJ with a good dose of BWest and Buckhalter things could be interesting this Sunday night.

    Oh yeah, FLY EAGLES FLY!!!

I’ll take that every week. Parker and Holmes on the field make all the difference in the world. The team is much slower without these two on the field. Add Nate Washington into the mix and it’s much easier for them to operate — even when the Redskins really bring it on D like they did last night.

7 sacks, 2 INTs. No yards from Portis on the ground. Game, set, match.

  18. thebrotherreport Says:

If the Eagles win Sunday, this division is wide open.

    (My lips to God’s ears)

  19. GrandNubian Says:

I like the Eagles over the G-Men in Sunday’s game.
