Charles Barkley Is Right: Turner Gill Should Be Considered for the Auburn Job

From Barkley: “Jay Jacobs, (Auburn) athletic director, I’ve got your coach,” said Barkley. “Go get Turner Gill at (the University at Buffalo), it’s time… Auburn family, I love you all. Alabama, I love you, too. But it’s time.. go get Turner Gill at Buffalo. RIGHT NOW!”

I totally agree. The culture of coaching historically gives a coach of Gill’s stature some serious shine this time of year. Why change now?

Turner Gill has turned Buffalo’s program around in a very short time. He has major college assistant coaching experience, so just as some other coaches names are bandied about this time of year, so should Turner Gill’s. With Sylvester Croom leaving Mississippi State, Auburn would be making a power move by hiring Gill. I think the onus is on the recruits. If blue chippers stop going to schools who won’t hire coaches that look like them…something will happen quick, fast and in a hurry.
