Mizzo’s NBA Top Five: Cleveland Is Tops…For Now
Historically, NBA players go through an adjustment period after the holidays leading up to the All Star break. Don’t get to involved with what’s going on presently in the lig, for it will all shake back into place. With that being said, here’s my top five this week.
1. Cleveland Cavaliers
The best free agent addition IMO, has been Mo Williams. Just think about what LBJ gives every night and add in Mo’s 15 points, toughness and leadership and you have an elite one two punch that will be hell on squidads late in the fourth quarter. This week, the match up to beat is Cleveland vs Orlando. Kobe, Earth Wind and Fire and the rest of the league are diggin’ it on TV while Terrell Owens serves them popcorn in a “Where’s My Quarterback?” apron.
2. Los Angeles Lakers
Dwyane Wade and LeBron are getting all the attention for
MVP, but Kobe Bryant is actually flying under the radar? Please…don’t sleep on Black Mamba baby.
He’s just making a list, checking it twice and with a chip on his shoulder, you’ll find out his game is still nice.
Andrew Bynum will be bangin’ it on the world as the league gets into full swing and when Lamar Odom’s ankle is back in effect, so will be the Lakers. It’s early people.
So again, please don’t fall for the hype. See more than what’s in front of your face.
3. Boston Celtics
Rajon Rondo is the catalyst here. If he’s ballin’ there is no team that will stop the Celtics from repeating. Yeah, yeah, Boston is falling asleep to a movie right now, but they’ll be alright. These are the times where Doc Rivers truly learns how to coach. Maybe the championship glare has worn off and the C’s need a charge.
This squad is loaded with vets who will know how to put it all together when it’s time to show and prove so don’t snore.
4. Orlando Magic
Jameer Nelson (sup fam) is an All Star, Dwight Howard has the world kneeling before Zod and Stan Van
Gundy is making sure these cats keep it real. You should hear dude in the huddle. He sounds like ya boy on Mad TV when he’s doing that old cat with the soul glow.
Anyway, if the Magic play consistent defense and Dwight Howard is able to make baskets in the post late in games despite double teams before the bounce, then nobody wants to play this team come spring. This team is very talented and their length causes match up problems for every team in the league.
5. New Orleans Hornets
Straight up? David West is an NBA elite player. His all world teammate will give it to you to the tune of 96 Michaels, 45 Magics and 12 Iversons any given three games, but the rock is DWest. How does a guy score 40 points without notice? How does a guy give it to cats like Dirk every single night and not get the notoriety he career deserves? Byron Scott’s got it gooder than a mug in NO and this team will fight until the end with the Lakers when it gets warm mainly because of the toughess West imposes on everyone.

Not that I follow the NBA before the leaves begin to do their thing, but don’t you WANT to play the Orlando Magic if Howard can’t make his free throws? Has he picked it up in that department as well? I’d love to see him get to around 75% That could make a world of difference.
T3,
Nah, he’s still shooting in the Shaq – Zo range (50% – 70%). I think he’s shooting around 60% from the line.
Yikes.
A. Fuck Boston
B. Cleveland is only 7-5 against teams with winning records
C. The Lakers are 16-4 against teams with winning records
D. Lakers #1 easily.
Not right now bruh. Maybe later, but not right now. I’m speaking of how they are playing this very second.
I just looked at that picture again – for the first time. That’s very cool (the subtitle is funny too). That would be some Starting Five — LeBron on the C’s…Yowza!!!!
A. T3 is right, that pic is very cool.
B. Right now, the Lakers are clearly better than the Cavs who have been feasting on the dregs of the league.
C. Jan 19th Bruh, Jan 19th.
Can’t disagree with your list at all. I too am amazed at how little pub DWest gets. He’s the way Paul Pierce was for years. Paul Pierce has been puttin’ up those silly numbers-not only pts, but 4-5 assists, 6 rebounds a game most of his career, but in the eyes of the corporate media-he only arrived last year. DWest is a baaaaaad man. I agree they will battle with my Lakers till late. I think same can be said for Utah. I don’t think Utah have quite the talent, but between Utah, Houston, N’awlins, there are some gonna be some tough, all-business, no-nonsense games late in the Western playoffs. I was disappointed the Lakers getting beat by 11 but I guess the Lakers can’t win ‘em all. And no, no teams are winning 70. Maybe a couple are winning 67 though.
Oh yeah, and what KevDog said.
How did I know KevDog would put LA on top?
GN
LOL.
When Loston was 27-2 and the Lakers were playing like somebody owed them seomthing, I did hve Boston #1. But When we kicked NO’s ass right before the Bsoton game, I was pretty sure we’d beat the Celts.
I have had us as #1 since then based on our overall record and record against teams over .500 as well as the fact that we simply have the most talent of any team in the league.
What????!!!!
You had Boston at #1? Man, you’re about to get your Laker license revoked!!
What I tell ya’ll ’bout dem Cleveland Cavaliers?
Yeah you said it.
I agreed with your list but thought LA should be # 2.
The Celtice are in a slump but they will be fine. Still got the lakers and celtics in the finals. Also Doc has been doing some bad coaching. Last night in the 3rd qtr….only once did a big man touch the ball on the block. That was perkins. Last year for the first half of the season the ball would go into the post constantly. toward the end of the second half of the season they went away from the post. Now I have heard rumors that Garnett isn’t healthy. If that true there is still no excuse to not post Perkins or Powe.
But Phil must do something with the lakers defense(they are 16th in the league in points allowed). They are horrible. F that mess Phil needs to start Arize…..let Rad ride the freaking bench the whole game. And please Phil tell Gasol to guard the freaking paint. The Pacers back doored their @ss to death last night. No excuse to give up 119 to those dudes.
Last Phil must and I mean must continue to feed the post. The lakers get away from it too often. Then kobe is forced to take over throughout the game and is wore out in the 4th. Just like the NO game. How in the world does Bynum score 8 in the 1st (on the block) and never gets a look the rest of the game. Now against sorry teams like the Warriors and Pacers they actually feed him in the post.
But there is still no excuse for him not getting the ball against the better teams. Its like they totally ignore the dude. They bettter get this corrected becuase trust me they will need this dude in the playoffs Vs. Spurs, Houston, NO (especially since he has a size mismatch against their backups and the Suns). Cause unlike the lakers and NO…….these teams feed their big men the ball.
If Phil doesn’t start Ariza who I feel at this time is playing the best defense on the team (defense is more needed in the starting line up then some outside shooting). And actually play Bynum in the post. The ex-hippie Phil might cost them a ring this year.
Cleveland just mopped up from the work the Lakers started on Christmas Day. Beating the Celts ain’t no big thang no mo.
As I said Jan 19th, Jan 19th.
The pic up top reminds me of Michael Jordan vs. the Pistons. They always had MJ’s number until Scottie Pippen stepped up and the league cracked down on the muggings on the court. Boston better enjoy it while it lasts. Only a matter of time before LBJ kisses a champagne-drenched trophy.
If Lebron leaves Cleveland for NY, it aint gonna happen. He has established something in Cleveland. They have a good thing going.
The smart thing would be to stay if he wants a good shot at a ring. If he’s all about the loot, then he’ll go to NY.
Of course it’s about the money. He ain’t staying in Cleveland. Book that. Cleveland fans can wish upon a star all they want. Can you blame him? What would any of us do?
I may be of the minority here but I would stay.
I would stay as well. Like I said on a radio show. LeBron is the Craig Ehlo Michael Jordan get back.
Fuck all yall pussy ass niggaz dat doubted the fuckin cavs fuck wade lebron was the one who had some fuckin shit to prove bitch and if a pussy gotta problem wt dis message fuck yoou and yo favorite team treal as nigga!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that lebron was better off playing for the cavs.
