Mizzo’s NFL Divisional Playoff Weekend Picks
3-1 Wild Card Round
35-16 for year
Not much analysis is needed.
These match ups are what you thought they are. I know you all are shocked I didn’t pick Philly, but Tom Coughlin has answered the bell for at least a year now and there’s your difference.
Yeah the Eagles are hot and Donovan, Dawkins and co. will fight to the end but I just don’t see a happy headline come Saturday morning here in Philly. Do they blow it all up here after Sunday? Depends on Justin Tuck.
Ed Reed is the only unanimous All-Pro pick. Why wasn’t he DPY again? Man
he’s all over the damn place and with big brother Ray roaming and Terrell Suggs gettin’ them speed knocks this is the team that will move on.
Offense, smoffense..just give Ed the ball and watch the fellas pose for the cameras on their way to the end zone. This is where Kerry Collins’ conservative style fails the Titans.
If Joe Flacco can manage the game without feelin’ all queasy in the huddle because Ray Ray is staring at him all crazy, then Baltimore wins this game in dramatic fashion.
Steve Smith is due for a big game. This game will be closer than you think and like I say below, the difference will be the ground game in the fourth quarter. Warner’s been here, so he’ll make sure the young fellas are calm enough in the huddle when they need to be. Breaston on special teams will be a key, but DeAngelo and Stewart are just too damn much.
None of that Sproles stuff this week. Rivers will have to put the ball in the air right behind the
linebacker level and hope his receivers don’t drop the rock when they see ‘em comin’. I know they’ve played all year with out Merriman, but this is where San Diego will miss him the most. I see Ben picking his spots–after getting off the turf–and finding receivers in stride right out of their breaks. Don’t plan on Gates being as effective with all those Blitzburgh linebackers running around. Look for LaDanian to give it a try. He’s gotta be feeling some kinda way having the best seat in the house.
Mike Tomlin…are you ready for the big time?

Ed Reed, or as he was known at The U, Edward Fucking Reed. I prayed that the Cowboys would draft him instead of Roy Williams. But Roy sacked Chris Simms in the endzone, so that made him the best safety in the country. In the meantime, Reed is putting together a HOF resume. Good job Jerry! lol
Yep. Very bitter. Nope. Not getting over it for a while.
January 9th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Diallo,
There were some draft “experts” who had issues with Reed’s size and speed. All I knew was that everytime I saw him play at The U, everywhere the football went is where Ed Reed was. Roy Williams is aiight, but thank goodness he slid in that draft. Sorry man.
January 9th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
I got the Eagles winning this game. I think that not having Plax will be huge and the Giants won’t be able to move the ball down the field. Philly will score early and I think Reid will run both Westbrook and Buckhalter. I see McNabb advancing in the next rd against the Panthers.
I like the Steelers to take this one by 2 scores. 24 - 14. The running game will FINALLY get going and “Fast” Willie will run for a c-note+. Ben will manage the game and not turn the ball over and the “D” will get some TOs.
I’m thinking that the Ravens will win (20-13) but I HOPE the Titans win, simply becasue it would setup a rematch between them and the Steelers.
No, I haven’t forgot what them bastards did to the “terrible towel”.
January 10th, 2009 at 12:07 am
“Experts” are only expert at one thing: being wrong.
January 10th, 2009 at 12:09 am
Yeah thank God he slid. Dallas would have him under center by now.
Oh well D…too bad bruh. Get ‘em next time.
Reverse psychology on the Eagles GN. Glasses make me smart
As far as the terrible towel…I got pictures.
January 10th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Go Eagles Go beat the crap out of Eli big head @ss.
January 10th, 2009 at 12:52 am
“Reverse psychology on the Eagles GN. Glasses make me smart
As far as the terrible towel…I got pictures.”
I feel ya mizz…..oh yeah, i got the pictures, too.
January 10th, 2009 at 1:09 am
Please pray for Kerry Collins this weekend because he is about to get beat to sleep on Saturday.
January 10th, 2009 at 1:44 am
Baltimore will be a tough challenge for the Titans tomorrow.
Should be another classic chapter in their bitter rivalry.
As for Ed Reed, he is a stud. Kerry Collins would be well-advised to throw the football in the direction opposite of #20.
January 10th, 2009 at 2:26 am
Kerry Collins is gonna hit the bottle mighty hard tomorrow night..he is gonna be sloppy drunk to forget that pain.
January 10th, 2009 at 2:43 am
I’m going with Eli and the Giants. I know they miss Plaxico but it’s Andy’s play calling that I don’t trust. N Y wins by 3. Sorry Philly!!!!!
January 10th, 2009 at 3:27 am
Miranda: That’s not nice.
January 10th, 2009 at 3:36 am
Thanks for the picks Mr. Mizzo.
I am shocked you picked against your hometown Iggles.
One quickie: I think Ed Reed had a great end of the season. He wasn’t this productive early. Through the first twelve weeks of the season, he had 1 INT and never had a game with more than 3 tackles. That’s not going to get you DPOY when Harrison has been battling against the Giants, Eagles, Colts, Redskins, Chargers, Ravens and Patriots on national television. Harrison had over 100 tackles, forced 7 fumbles and had 16 sacks. He didn’t wait until Week 12 to get the ball rolling. He did in from Game 1 through Game 16 (he missed Week 17). With that said, I’d argue Polamalu was the Steelers MVP on defense this year. Reed snatched 8 picks in games and then had a monster game against Miami. He deserves something, but I’m not sure that he OR Harrison were the Defensive Player of THIS year. Ed’s been the best since November.
I like my Steelers. I like the Giants (but not really…I have this nagging feeling that the Eagles are going to do it.). I like the Ravens (especially now that Kevin Mawae is out). I like the Panthers, but wouldn’t mind seeing the Cardinals advance. Fitzgerald and Boldin and Breaston are the heirs to the WR Triplet throne built by Cris Carter, Randy Moss and Jake Reed. Denny Green had a vision in crafting this squad. I’d like to see them make a move.
I wish the NFL had given the Raven-Titan game the scheduling spotlight it deserves. (I suppose the good news is that the winner gets the longest breather of any remaining contender.)
Enjoy the games everyone.
January 10th, 2009 at 3:38 am
I meant to say up top that Reed snatched 8 picks in only 4 games: Eagles, Cowboys, Redskins, Jaguars.
January 10th, 2009 at 4:43 am
I am picking Philly in an upset of the Giants the Titans, Panthers, and Steelers handling their buisness now if Hank Baskett’s “future wife “can just shut her trap maybe he might get the damn ball from D-Mac sometime. Now I am going to respond about an article that was in the St. Pete Times about Florida Defensive Cordinator Charley Strong and my opinion on why he and Turner Gill are going to get any “Big 6″ SEC job and never had a chance.
I am going to break this down fairly easy for everybody here to understand, in the SEC there are what I call the Big 6 which is
1. Florida
2. Alabama
3. Georgia
4. LSU
5. Tennensee
6. Aurburn
If a coach lands one of those jobs you should be able to compete every 2-3 years for an SEC or National Championship because a coach will get the players on name recogintion and tradition alone. Well Charley Strong is the recuriting cordinator as well as the defensive genius who has won 2 national titles for Urban Meyer and is beyond qualified to be a head coach in one of the those schools. Slyvester Croom’s downfall was that he wanted the Alabama job instead of the MSU job because I thought he would have done well being an Alumnus and captian of the 1973 national championship team, but nobody could have saved MSU without doing what Jackie Sherill did and that was cheat and pay the best players to come there and he got fired after going 8-5 the pervious season (which is a miracle ) and he is married to a Black Woman which brings me to Strong’s and Gill’s dilmmea and any Black Coach who wants to coach at the top tier SEC schools particular in the South.
Just last Night last Florida won the National Title for the second time in 3 years and Auburn and Tennensee s passed over Strong and Turner Gill who have won as assistant coaches a combined 6 college football championships between them won’t even hire these men because they are married to White Women not because they lack experience coaching at a bigtime school. Two SEC coaches told Strong and Gill that being married to a White Woman would hurt them, Barkley backed off that assertion but I knew that regardless of their records and championships these schools would never hire them because of that very reason alone.
I am going to say something politically incorrect when it comes to race and sports and career choices but I believe the 3 most important things a person has control over is
1.) Spouse
2.) Career
3.) Religon
If a Black Man in America wants to marry IR then good for you and may God, Allah, the Four Winds and Budha bless you in your lives but if you do opposite of those things I mentioned above then there will be a price to pay for those choices one makes in their lives. President Obama was stragetic in how he made his life choices by the result he is now President -elect because he was astute in how the game is played and made proper choices that were advantages later, I think too many BM are like Strong and Gill now realize that choices you make as a young man has consquences and this case a plum job that would have made them a Div - 1 Eddie Robinson.
Sorry about the long rant folks, and Mizzo if you want to move it I will understand because this a playoff post but I wanted to get something off my chest on an issue I think needs serious debate especially for our young fans and people who lurk here.
January 10th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Eric you make some valid points brotha.
Anyway as far as Collins Miranda………..they better pour some liquor out on the field for him……cause he is done after this game.
Temple it was trash the scheduling of the Ravens Titans game. How did the league let San Diego play on Sunday when they played on Saturday last week. They gave them and unfair advantage and hurt the Ravens. When they played on Sunday then had to come back and play this Saturday. I call Garbage on the NFL.
So Mizzo if Mcnabb loses this week, does he ask for a release or for more talent. I look at this run as a catch 22. Do the eagles say we can keep Mcnabb (or does he say I want to stay) and go to the playoffs next year and not spend another dime with their cheap @sses. Or do they say we aren’t to far from a championship and lets get Mcanbb some help.
IMO there is no reason for Mcanbb to stay if they aren’t going to give him some help…..heck even if the win the superbowl he still needs some WR and another RB.
January 10th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Origin,
Co-sign on the scheduling for San Diego. Normally the number one seed gets the pimp spot on Sunday.
Temple3,
Earlier this season, Reed had problems with his neck. The word was it was/is a serious injury, so much so that if he has surgery it could possibly end his career. Once he learned to adjust, he became an even better player. Scary.
January 10th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
CBS is getting ready to do what BSPN doesn’t have the guts to do: talk to Adam Jones.
January 10th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
What did Adam Jones say des?
January 10th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
Come on Ravens get some pass rush on Kerry Collins.
January 10th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
HAHA Collins isn’t letting me down. The Ravens thank you for the INT.
January 10th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
The Ravens have cut the old man some slack…..I think the second half will go a lil different though.
January 10th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Lorenzo Neal just ran over that LB, this game is going down to the last seconds and Chris Johnson sitting on the sidelines hurts the Titans.
January 10th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
The curse of Vince is getting the Titans.
Everyone is going down.
January 10th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Origin you so wrong for that!!! LMAO!!!!!!
January 11th, 2009 at 12:09 am
Yes Fumble………..yes.
January 11th, 2009 at 12:09 am
HAHA I told them they should have played Vince.
January 11th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Flacco is working on my nerves. This dude has ran around the whole year. Now this game the dude wants to turn into Dan marino and be a pocket passer.
F you Flacco!!!!
January 11th, 2009 at 12:24 am
Alge Crumpler looks like he needs to be on the offensive line.
Dammit Ravens…y’all betta put a TD on the board with this drive.
January 11th, 2009 at 12:29 am
heh…………….so what’s 1…2…maybe 2 1/2 extra seconds? heh.

January 11th, 2009 at 12:39 am
I’ll meet ya there Origin!!
January 11th, 2009 at 12:40 am
How could Vince have done a worse job? He should have played today…just because of his mobility.
January 11th, 2009 at 12:40 am
HAHA
That was close Mizzo.
So what the titan fans got to say now. Collins won just as many playoff games this year as Vince won last year.
Vince should be the starter next year………f that other mess.
January 11th, 2009 at 12:41 am
HAHA I hear you Miranda.
LOL!!!!
January 11th, 2009 at 12:43 am

January 11th, 2009 at 1:12 am
Bulluck has the longest arms I’ve ever seen.
He’s gonna kick somebody’s ass from around the corner.
January 11th, 2009 at 1:20 am
AZ might be in big trouble and it’s early.
January 11th, 2009 at 1:21 am
I fell asleep when CBS interviewed him. What did he say Miranda?
January 11th, 2009 at 1:23 am
Oh darn….looks like a bunch of other people beat me to the Falcons message board…LOL….oh well!
Yeah, Arizona is looking like its bout to be a long night for them.
January 11th, 2009 at 1:26 am
From CBS Sportsline:
NEW YORK — Adam “Pacman” Jones suggested Saturday his days with the Dallas Cowboys may not be over.
In an interview on CBS’ NFL pregame show, the oft-troubled cornerback said that not only does he expect to play football next season, “I think I might be back in Dallas.”
Host James Brown then asked: “And you have an inkling that Jerry Jones will give you another shot?”
Jones grinned and said, “Yeah, I do,” but didn’t offer any details to back his assertion.
Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said the team had no comment.
Dallas released Jones on Wednesday after a turbulent season in which he was suspended six games for an off-field scuffle and made little impact on the field.
The Cowboys had traded for Jones despite the cornerback’s suspension for the 2007 season after multiple incidents while with the Tennessee Titans. On Oct. 7, Jones got into a scuffle with a bodyguard who was part of a team-employed security detail.
The 25-year-old Jones spent part of his time away from football taking part in an alcohol rehabilitation program.
Flanked by lawyer Robert Langford, Jones was interviewed Saturday via satellite from California. He insisted his troubles were behind him.
“I did have an alcohol problem, but I have addressed the alcohol problem and went to AA,” he said. “I went there for 2½ months, going to AA every other week, seeing my counselors every day. Regardless … I’m doing whatever it takes for me to change my life as a man, you know. Football, I’ll always love football and always want to play football, but I still got to take care of myself as a person also.”
January 11th, 2009 at 1:39 am
I don’t know what to say about that.
Good luck to Adam. I hope he finds peace.
I do know that Larry Fitzgerald is a monster. His nick name should be stick ‘em.
January 11th, 2009 at 1:59 am
The Edge is playing like he’s got a point to prove.
January 11th, 2009 at 2:31 am
The same Titans fans who tried to run Vince out of town are very SILENT right now..what now? Vince should demand a trade and put the Titans organization on blast …Coach Fisher can have Kerry Collins and Chris Simms…
January 11th, 2009 at 3:00 am
A very telling exercise in be careful what you wish for. You will hear no one in the media criticize Collins. Trust me.
If Vince is having or was having problems, he better get it together quick. Some well placed scrambles would have won the game.
Carolina is putting up a stinker. Since they are so far down, the conventional running game is neutralized. They better put DeAngelo in space and run some reverses or screen passes to Steve Smith or this will get ugly.
Eagles win tomorrow and their in they’re in the Super Bowl.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:04 am
I am hoping that the Chargers will pull it out. The NFL is a beautiful thing — being .500 during the season may result in a home field advantage if we win tomorrow.
Even though ED was “politically incorrect,” he has a point. In my opinion, Mrs. Obama truly helped the President-elect. She wasn’t the only reason why he won, but certainly seeing the image of an African-American family, including a wife who does not look like Beyonce Knowles/Vanessa L. Williams, spoke volumes.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:10 am
Very true.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:16 am
I leave for an hour and go to Wendy’s and The Cardinals are up 27-7, I knew the Panthers were trouble when “Edge” was ripping 7 yard gains. Well Peppers better get ready because this is last game in Carolina and “Jake the Snake” ain’t a franchise QB and Warner still is, what will happen If he retires after this season and the job by defualt goes to Matt Linert?
January 11th, 2009 at 3:45 am
Its such an interesting dynamic to see the winners of the Punt, Pass & Kick Competition….that is just so interesting.
January 11th, 2009 at 3:48 am
Buh-bye Delhomme
January 11th, 2009 at 4:12 am
Wow!!
I know this is after the fact but I had a feeling the Cards would go into Charlotte and tap the Panthers but I wasn’t expecting this. I’m actually happy for the Cards because it’s good to see a perennial underdog step up from time to time. That being said, the winner of Phi v NY will go Tampa.
That winner is? Heck if I know. The Giants being the #1 seed at home and rested is scary as well as the two road team winning today doesn’t look good for the Eagles. On the other hand, the Silver and Green has a scary defense that’s been helped by the finally balanced offensive playcalling. Westbrook’s injuries may catch up to him tomorrow which is imperative that Buckhalter get some touches. I also think again the loss of Plax will hurt the Giants more than they let on.
My call is either the Eagles win going away or lose a tight one.
Oh yeah, Pittsburgh over SD in a walk.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:48 am
Nothing like watching your phone in the middle of your daughter’s dance recital
GO RAVENS!!!
Two-Face,
How great would it be to see Ravens-Steelers III?
January 11th, 2009 at 4:53 am
Des,
It’ll probably be 11-10 as the final.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:56 am
The Cardinals ‘opportunistic’ defense sort of reminds me of the Colts’ much maligned defense during their Super Bowl year. Adrian Wilson is a Pro Bowl safety. Betrand Berry and Dockett are solid pass rushers. So they got impact players on defense, but the imbalance on offense put that defense in a bind at inopportune times.
Cardinals are playing more focused on defense, but it seems a light came on when EDGERRIN JAMES was allowed to play..Coach Whisenhunt and/or Cardinals’ management had been very stubborn in playing Edge and it may have had an affect on the team as a whole..strange as that may seem.
Kurt Warner isn’t going to win by throwing 40 to 45 times a game and it took 16 weeks for Whisenhunt to figure that out. Playing in the weak NFC West may have clouded their judgment. However, if the Cards are serious about winning the NFC or a SuperBowl, they MUST RUN THE FOOTBALL..
Kurt doesn’t have to relive the Rams’ passing glory from 1999, manage the offense make solid throws to Fitz/Boldin and allow Edge to get into a rhythm.
Whisenhunt may not want Edge in ARZ, but Edgerrin is Hall of Fame RB and when Edge put Cardinals’ management on blast two weeks ago prior to the Atlanta playoff game it forced Coach Whiz to make a decision if you are serious about winning, YOU HAVE TO RUN THE FOOTBALL WITH HIM..
January 11th, 2009 at 5:01 am
…And one more thing, Jake Delohmme’s career as a Carolina Panther is likely over…
January 11th, 2009 at 5:22 am
Two-Face,
And it will be so controversial, a rule change may take place
January 11th, 2009 at 5:31 am
Dude. . .Jim Leonhard! He’s a walk-on at University of Cheddar, then basically a walk-on in the NFL. Comes from bumblef**k tiny town in Wisconsin and now is bringing seriously thump down to all comers. I’m suddenly a Ravens fan.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:23 am
Dude…where have you been?
January 11th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
T3 tried to tell me…..but I didn’t want to listen. Now i’m eating crow.
Jake Delhomme played like a “busta” and the Panthers only showed up for one series. The Cards are on a mission and teams better start taking them seriously.
I gotta give props to Warren Sapp, who said that BOTH #1 seeds would go down on yesterday.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Can someone explain to me how Adam Jones is suing ESPN, but is doing interviews with them???
January 11th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
The same reason why I won’t give this guy an inch of pub on this site. Anyone who does is a fool.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
What happened to Carolina?
January 11th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Ok…..I’m late you guys already talked about everything. I’m here for the Eagles game though. LOL
