[...] Jerry Jones’ principal focus is not on winning games. A significant portion of his attention is on keeping the Dallas Cowboys relevant as a media/marketing entity. The Dallas Cowboys have not won a playoff game since 1996, and they remain at the top of the 24-hour news cycle because of high profile signings, soap opera-style drama, and their history of winning. The Cowboys will be opening a new stadium next year and football remains a business. Jerry Jones’ principal focus is on the business of football. When it comes to winning games, Jerry Jones is as preoccupied with being perceived as a genius as anything else. He is still fighting the ghost of Jimmy Johnson and as he punches air, he begins to look more and more like Don Quixote every day.
I have never liked Skip. All of his columns have a recurring theme: Find an alleged sore spot or weak spot in someone and then pick at that until it generates pain and controversy. The more pain and controversy, the better.
He had a failed radio show in Dallas and he onced offered on that show that both of his parents were alcoholics and life was hard at home. I've thought that his unrelenting rancor and ego trip grew out of that beginning.
Some of his colums were interesting, but most seemed mean spirited. Two good ones that I remember to this day( and I think he would also) are one about the " back side" of the horse track and " Why Dallas should not get the World Cup."
But, on his best day, he was NEVER better than Blackie Sherrod.

OK:

I don't believe anyone has said that about Bayless here -- yet. I think you're on to something, though.

The problem is the paradigm -- and what missing may be his objection to the very setting of the question. His employer's business model is not contingent on making moral judgments on athletes like Phelps. There is no money in that sort of thing, usually. But, there is all manner of loot to clock by routinely revisiting the case of Bonds or Vick or Owens -- so they do it over and over and over and over and over again.

Maybe his apparent appetite is equated with a bit of negro bloodlust, when its really just an unmitigated desire to get it on -- with anyone and everyone about anything and everything.
