Thursday Morning Starting Five: March 5, 2009
Ray Lewis resigns with the Ravens…good (Baltimore Sun)
Great satire piece on some prominent Blacks in politics. Definitely worth the read (The Sable Verity)
Shaq goes off on Stan Van Gundy (Miami Herald)
Rehabbing injury, Kevin Garnett is on track (Boston.com)
President Obama overturns Bush endangered species rule
I’m glad Ray is staying with the Ravens as well. He’s the face of the franchise. Too bad the Eagles (Dawkins) and Buccaneers (Brooks) couldn’t follow suit. Given the departure of legendary players in Philly and Tampa over the past few years, neither situation is all that surprising.
I think the Cowboys are looking weaker on both sides of the ball right now. Losing Owens doesn’t help their offense — unless they can keep Felix Jones and Marion Barber healthy and get a great deal more from Roy Williams. (When they signed RW, I thought that was the beginning of the end for Owens in Dallas, but he was so ineffective that I figured Dallas would continue on their path.)
Keith Brooking might make them a little better – but he might make them older and slower, too. With Lewis off the table, it seems to me that they really need to look at signing Peppers if they don’t want to get steamrolled next season.
The 13-3 teams from 2007 both took steps back last season (Dallas, Green Bay), as did the Super Bowl loser from ’05 (Seattle). Dallas plays them both next year. Seattle and GB look better (right now) than the Cowboys for ’09.
I read earlier today that Torry Holt wants out. What’s the over/under for recievers over 30? Where do you put such a move on your risk vs. reward scale?
My Vikings desperately need a reciever the caliber of Owens, Holt, or Harrison.
But what can they give? What do they still have? Of the three I think Harrison has the least left due to the knee injury and I think he’s also the eldest of the trio.
Any thoughts? Oh yeah, what’s up with Chad Johnson? Is he available?
CP3 is not havin’ it tonite! “Take that!! And, that!! Smack, pap, smack-smack!!”
Up for a little 7-on-7 — NBA style? Brandon Roy(7) vs. Chauncey Billups (7). Blazers – Nuggets. Should be great! Who you got?
