Saw that Lakers-76ers game last night. Good win for the 6ers. The Lakers coaching staff takes the blame for this one. 6 seconds left, one foul to give, and Ariza just lets Iguodala take the shot. Doesn’t give him the foul. The coaching staff should have made sure that the players knew they had one to give.
This continues a troubling trend for the Lakers of getting out to big leads only to let them evaporate late. Andrew Bynum coming back isn’t going to help the team getting lax at the end of games. The coaches need to drill it through to the team that they can’t cruise just because they have a big lead, or they’re going to have an early exit in the playoffs.
I had heard about Resident Evil 5. It doesn’t surprise me. How many black or hispanic people are playable heroes in non-fighting tournament games in the first place? One problem with the video game industry is the fact that it has never been very diverse in the first place.
The article says the game allows you to fight colonialism. Hell, to me, the game sounds more like paternalism we see all through the media. The white hero has to come and save the po’ black folk once again. No black person can solve the problem without him. They can assist him, but they won’t be the ones to solve the problem.
You can’t seriously be mad about Resident Evil 5.
Also, Does it really matter That A-Rod posed for those pictures? I mean he’s was hated even before the steroids, so what’s the big deal about this?

*Can’t say too much about the AIDS epidemic that hasn’t already been said before but it’s amazing to me that after over 25 years the rates continue to rise in the Black community. Something has to be done on the micro and macro levels to save ourselves.

What, for the love of friggin christ, is so wrong with being gay or at the least open-minded about it? If i was A-Rod I’d tell my sons “There are a lot of bigots out there, even from places and people you wouldn’t expect there to be. And because of that people are going to expect you to fit into their one model of what an athlete is supposed to look, sound, and act like. Don’t. Be your own man.”

Don’t get me wrong those pictures are a bit odd, but A-Rod’s reputation hasn’t been any good since he signed that big contract, I don’t see how these pictures make a difference. As for Resident Evil my comment was more towards the person who posted before me than towards your question, but to answer it no it’s not inherently racist for a white hero to kill black zombies.

Great comments. Brotha Harvey there are a few black game designers out there (even black companies). But the gaming industry is a good ole boy network too. Also many of these black game designers don’t have the money or support to put games out for these systems. Its amazing that you have these powerful and rich black folks who won’t invest in this industry. Guys like Russel Simmons, Oprah and Bob Johnson could do alot in this field.
Here is a link to some brothas who worked at EA sports. They left the company and created their own company. The game they made is Black College Football. However the game is only available on the PC. The reason for this is that the license fee to create a game on playstation, x-box and Wii is like 3 million for each system. So that means just in order to get a license to make the game on those 3 systems it would take 9 million dollars. This doesn’t even count developing the game and marketing it, then distributing it. Games like Grand Theft Auto IV cost 100 million just to make. Thats without counting distribution and marketing.

As far as racism in Resident Evil….take this into account they knew it was going to be some controversy or they would have never had a black woman main character helping the white dude shoot the black zombies. Look they are rarely ever black characters in video games and especially black women. Racism, sexism and violence is rampid in the gaming industry. Matter a fact Residence Evil has only had 1 black character and he wasn’t even a main character.
I remember when the first time I saw just out right open racism in games. It was the first Getaway game on playstation 2. The so called main bad guy on the game was calling black people jungle bunnies and spear throwers.
Then you had games like grandtheft auto openly use racial slurs. From calling black people N-words to egg plants.
I bet that new God Father 2 game will have a few racial slurs thrown at black folks. I mean I wouldn’t expect anything less. He11 the movie trilogies had a few jabs at black folks.
A lot of these game designers try to out due each other. If one game has brief nudity the next game is going to push the envelope and have full frontal nudity.
I remember when the first True Crimes came out and they had where you could play as snoop dog in the game. He would go around saying the N-word. I knew after they were able to get away with this someone would push the envelope even further. Next thing I knew grand theft auto san andreas came out and every other word was an N-word in that game.
Heck Rockstar just came under some heat with Grand Theft Auto IV expansion download. There is a scene with full frontal nudity of a man in a steam room.
Also Harvey I have been following that lil so called kids movie by racist Disney.
Its been in the making for awhile. Originally the movie was called the frog Princess with the story being based that the black girl was a frog and the prince would kiss her and turn her to a princess.
Then Disney came under heat from for that plot. So they changed it to, (check this out) where the black girl was a maid working for white folks on an old plantation. The black girls name was Maddy.
And folks were hot after finding this out. Disney was suddenly shocked that black folks were upset. I mean shouldn’t black folks be happy that Disney is creating a black princess for them. I mean how ungrateful of black folks right?

Well anyway they changed the plot up again. The story goes that they had planned to have the princes have a black prince. But they stated that it would be unrealistic…….say what?????

No, no Barack backlash, RE:5 had been in development for roughly four years. The reason that race and other such social issues are popping up more and more in games now is that fans are demanding more of a storyline to games, and successful stories generally require more realistic characters, and real people tend to have various issues. See the GTA series.

I saw a commercial for that Black college football game during the Bayou Classic last year and while I knew it wasn’t from a big gaming company I didn’t know the designers didn’t have the funds to get it on the main game platforms. Sadly though, I’m not surprised. Any investment in games from a minority perspective and designed by minorities will probably have to be funded more by Black venture capitalists than the race’s well-known billionaires because people like Oprah, Johnson, and Russell have a public image to maintain and not contribute to the mis-education of Black youth (sarcasm added).
I knew the Black Disney movie was going to be trash. It’s not going to make any money and I’ll be interested to see if Disney gives it a big push a la Little Mermaid or Aladdin. Glad I have a little boy so I don’t have to take him to see this. We’ll stay home and watch strong role models like Priest, Goldie, and Blade…lol
I agree brotha Harvey. I have a lil daughter and I know she will want to see this like most of these Disney movies. I refuse to give disney a dollar. If she sees this movie it will be because I got a 5 dollar bootleg.
And before she sees it Dad will have a lil sit down and talk. Like I always do before I let her see Disney movies and movies in general.
