Thursday Morning Starting Five: March 19, 2009
Ahh the madness of March is upon us. These first couple rounds are the most raw basketball we’ll see as teams scratch and claw to tell the world they belong. You’ll see coaches go crazy on the sidelines knowing they might not ever get back, and students from colleges across the land cry from both joy and disappointment. Congratulations Todd Bozeman for that NCAA get back.
Temple…Harvey Dent linked to that track just as I was adding it to today’s links yesterday. I feel you brothas, but Jack the Ripper was raw shit and in my opinion helped to transition Hip Hop into a new era. Mo Dee was that dude….Chuck tells me this all the time that Mo Dee is the Dr. J of the rap game because he brought the highlight…but James Todd Smith and crew kicked it legendary in timeless, lyrical and hardcore beat fashion. Speaking of Chuck, a Professor Griff interview will be posted tomorrow.

You got it Two Face!
Mizzo:
The link to the census count of Caribbean nationals is really great stuff.
I’ve found it dismaying when people of the African diaspora get into arguments with one another about legacy. Frankly, the lines between all of us are very fluid. Folks can often get mindlessly parochial about what they don’t know, but claim as their own. Whether you speak English, a “Creole” or Spanish or French or Dutch or something else, we have a great deal in common with one another.
I think the writer is a little disjointed in some of her tangential points — but she makes some solid points.
On a more serious note:
The people who want to charge Bashir with crimes are trying to rule the world and use Africa as a pawn in the game. If you connect the dots, they run right through white supremacist organizations like the Council on Foreign Relations (the founders and publishers of allafrica.com) and the One World Trust.
I’m not saying Bashir’s a good guy…but there is a much larger agenda afoot.
Coach K can eat it.
Props to Bozeman and Morgan State. I hope he signs another contract and builds his own legacy there but we all know it’s about the dollars.
Yes!! Kool Moe Dee…gotta love the shades
I took those L’s/hung ‘em on your head and rocked your bells
You wanna beat me?/It’s gonna take a miracle/You got a lock on my jock like a pitbull
That’s that classic stuff, dawg!!!
The guys who asked the questions were being intentionally provocative with their phrasing. Capel seemed to take more exception than Coach K. Either way, most people I know don’t like being judged by other folks — especially when they’re having success and especially when the person doing the judging is NOT in the same line of work.
