I hope you heard was I was really really saying when I covered Derrick Rose up close. The Bull Wonder is no fluke. When you get a chance to speak to him personally, you just know the kid is special. His personality is not typical. I know some of you thought he would have been better off in Miami, but trust he’s good in Chicago. Dude went off!The champs should have known they were in trouble after giving up 28 in the first quarter…Pooh giving it to their much vaunted defense off mad isolations. You have to be able to defend the pick and roll when you play Chicago and this is where you will see the glaring absence of Kevin Garnett. KG is so smart and anchors Boston’s defense Ray Lewis similar with constant communication and quick reaction.

Derrick Rose goes off for 36 and 11…tying him with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most all time in a rookie playoff debut. Tyrus Thomas was excellent as well and scored 16..hitting deep jumpers. I was shocked seeing Thomas pull up late. Good for him. Joakim Noah was beast with 11 and 17 big boys. Ben Gordon had a quiet 20.

Ray Allen had a horrible night on 1-12 shooting for 4 points…tied for his second lowest playoff output during his stellar career. Watch Rose’s crossover and ask yourself who do you see but with more power?

Rajon Rondo, who led Boston in almost every offensive category, had 29 points, 7 dimes and 9 boards.

Houston 108, Portland 81 Houston leads 1-0

a-whole-lotta-lotta-of-this-young-fella NBA Playoffs Last Night: The Bull Wonder Goes Off!

I picked Houston because of experience. Portland is the the more talented team of the two, but just because I might be more talented than my Pop in some instances doesn’t mean he still wouldn’t kick my ass like he used to do with that damn belt (and my Mom giving it to us with those damn Hot Wheels tracks…

Oh my bad, I’m rambling?  You understand I’m sure.

Ron Artest and Shane Battier are two of the best defenders in the League. They are not going to let a young squad roll over their dream to get that June shine. Brandon Roy is a beast but I’m not sold he can deal with knee caps and all that in a seven game  series.

Yao didn’t miss a shot from anywhere…scoring all his 24 in the first half. They led by 18 at halftime and by as much as 31. Aaron Brooks had 27 and 7 dimes. Luis Sciola, one of the most tenacious rebounders I’ve ever seen, had 19 and 8 boards. Ron Ron had a cool 17.

Brandon Roy was the only Trail Blazer in TSF that cracked double figures scored 21. Greg Oden had 15 and 5 rips. Houston shot 58% for the game. Portland was an ugly 9% (1-11) from behind the arc.

dallas-steals-one-on-the-road NBA Playoffs Last Night: The Bull Wonder Goes Off!

Didn’t see this game, so check the box. I can only surmise the Mavs 53 % shooting on the road was as much a difference than anything else. Think about this…Tony Parker scores 24, Duncan 17, Finley 19 and they still lose. What’s missing? The production of one Manu Ginobli.

For Dallas, a finally healthy Josh Howard had 25, Dirk had 19 and Erick Dampier did the dirty work with 10 and 11. Dallas killed the Spurs from the bench. Brandon Bass had 14 in 18 minutes. Jason Terry had 12 and Jose Juan Barera threw in 13.

glass NBA Playoffs Last Night: The Bull Wonder Goes Off!

When you have full designs on taking home the title and opening up with your chief rival, this is the type of game you want to come out the box with.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (Go Carolyn go!) look ready…even after just one game. Big time crowd and your star hit a running half court bank shot at the buzzer?

What was my prediction? We might have to scratch that. It’s gonna take something crazy for the Pistons to somehow win Game 3.

Lebron had a sick 38 Kobes, 7 Magics and 8 Chucks. Delonte West, Big Z and Mo Williams all had 12. Joe Smith, per our conversation, had 13. It’s big boy time JS, get it!

Stuckey had 20, Rip had 15 and Sheed 13. This is gonna be rough for the Pistons vets to finally realize their great run might be over 1 game into the series. Despite what they are up against, Detroit will not quit.

  1. origin Says:

Yeap brotha Mizzo…………young mr. Rose represented Chitown right…..made me proud.

Oh and these fools need to kill that noise that Ricky Rubio is or was better then Rose.

That issue is as dead as a door knob.

  2. Temple3 Says:

I’m wondering how many 1-12 shooting nights Ray Allen has left in his holster. The same holds for Pierce. 8-21? Yikes. With that said, I assume that Rajon Rondo can continue to do what he did in Game 1: 29, 8,7 — and 1 turnover. The Celtics need them old dudes to play like a shell of themselves — not the genuine article. If 1-12 is the best that Allen can do, the C’s will lose. If he has anything left, this game could be a harbinger of bad things to come for Chi. I suspect that Ben Gordon is next up on the Break Out game board. If I’m Doc Rivers, I’m not as worried about Rose as I am about Pierce and Allen. The absence of Garnett may be felt most acutely on the offensive end.

Portland got smashed. It’s time for Nate to break out the Boston Massacre video from 1985. They need to remember that they just beat Denver the same way they were beaten last night. They need to remember that they’ve beaten Houston before — and that even if they’d lost 105-104 on a last second jumper, they’d still be down 1-0. Otherwise, Jeff Van Gundy could be right about this series. One thing I overlooked in picking Portland was the fact that Mr. Brooks went to Oregon and sho’ nuff had no intentions of getting shown up at home — by anyone. I still like Portland, but they have a lot of work to do. Houston looks like a well-oiled machine. The thing is — I feel like I say that every year about Houston…then around Game 3 or 4, they fall apart.

When Dampier is executing the pick and roll, it’s time to fold up stakes and get out of Dodge before the posse gets back to town. San Antonio appears to be looking at the short end of a nasty rope.

Detroit is abysmal. A friend of mine has theorized that Rasheed has moved his game out of the post because he doesn’t get calls from officials — so why bother to take the pounding. Whatever it is, that team is just done. It’s a wrap. Cleveland needs to put them out of their misery. Too bad the games don’t count double.

Mizzo — that’s a lot of work you put in when you could have been at the club. Nice job.

  3. Hoopsfan Says:

I agree with Temple3 that Doc has to worry more about Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. Didn’t Allen struggle with his shooting early in last year’s playoffs, too. As Temple3 inferred, he can’t possibly continue to be that off, can he? Good thought that maybe Ben Gordon will get hot next. Surely Boston will try to do a better job of slowing down Rose’s access to the lane. Looking forward to game two.
