Friday Fire: What Do You Think About the 2009 NBA Playoffs So Far?

Yeah there’s only been one round played (or yet to play), but there seems to be something special coming out of this year’s second season. Lakers vs. Cleveland? LeBron vs. Kobe? Chauncey Billups and to a lesser extent, Jason Kidd showing the young fellas what got them here, Dwight Howard elbows…is the Boston/Chicago series one of the best first round match ups of all time? Who knows? Ron Artest crackin’ brawl jokes, Skip and J.J. Redick’s pre May Day Sixers party crash, Derrick Rose…Ray Allen going 51? Melo getting out of the first round…Andre Miller underrated? Andre Iguodala a star? Hedo? Stan Van Gundy? Dirk and Josh? Detroit and San Antonio will watch? What? Talk to me.

    Mizzo:

You saw it before I did. You said there was a rivalry between Boston and Chicago. If there wasn’t one before Game 1, there certainly is now. I don’t remember a more physical or more hard-fought series. Four overtime games in 6 is just amazing. Great series…lotta drama. If someone decided to pass on this series because Kevin Garnett and Luol Deng weren’t playing, they have missed out on a great one.

You made a great call. I’m glad I’ve been watching.

I was honestly thinking about the same thing this morning.

I think a lot of it has to do with the overall “growing up” of a lot of players around the league. The younger guys are really figuring out to win and understanding what role they need to play to help their teams get to championships.

Cosign Temple3 – you were definitely right about this series. It’s been unbelievable. The only downside is trying to get enough sleep for work the next day.

Boston/Chicago wow! Philly other than Andre Miller….terrible. I knew the Spurs wouldn’t last. Ron Ron….Too funny. In the end LA/CLEV will be the last teams standing.

Boston looks like they took it as a given that they would beat the Bulls easily and gave them confidence. It doesn’t help that the starters are playing a lot of minutes. Kudos to the Bulls for taking advantage of Boston’s mistakes. Can’t tell if this is a sign that the Bulls will be much better next year, or is it just a case of a bad match up for the Celtics (minus Garnett). I’m leaning more towards the latter.

Orlando finally made Philly run, and we saw the results. Imagine if they had done that from the start. Stan Van could have saved on his cleaning bill.

Houston took care of business. Besides Brandon Roy, nobody else on Portland’s squad showed up for every game. Loads of young talent, just not ready for the big leagues quite yet. Artest and Yao are probably the third best duo in the Western Conference right now, behind Kobe and Gasol, and Billups and Anthony.

Mamba will use Artest’s words that Roy was better than him as motivation to try to whip up on Houston in the next round. Will we see more trash talking reminiscent of one of the games earlier this year between Artest and KB24?

Ron Ron is gonna get abused.

  7. Esquire says:

I was pretty surprised Ron went there, but I will be happy to watch Kobe go off on him.

  8. Temple3 says:

Can Kenyon Martin do as well defensively on Pau Gasol (assuming Denver and LA meet in the WCF) as he did several years ago against Tim Duncan?

Damn I’m pissed OFF over in Korea. I’ve gotten to see one Denver-N’awlins game, one bland San Antone-Dallas game, and then just now, game 6 of Philly-Orlando. That Chicago/Boston series…are you kiddin’ me? We’ve had what, 4, 5 OTs outta six games……and now we’ve got a game 7? Like Esquire said, it’d be a challenge getting enough sleep with so much great hoops. Houston showed what good hard-nosed defense will do. I still like Portland. But I REALLY love Ron Ron saying Brandon Roy is the best player he’s played against. Man, #24 is going to EAT THAT UP. And I’m gonna get to see more Laker games in the second round. Can’t WAIT for that. I love this game!

    WHat up brotha Mizzo.

Man I love these playoffs…..the only thing I hate is that their have been so many injuries before and during the playoffs.

Cleveland, Lakers and Denver are the only teams that didn’t have injuries at the start of the playoffs.

Ain’t nothing better then the NBA playoffs…..like my man TC, I love watching this stuff.
