clearly this society cares way too much about sports. it has no bearing on anything that happens, its just a diversion from the average persons every day lives. or a hobby for people with no skills, watching the sports that is. it does not matter if peyton manning wins another ring, or if barry bonds ever admits he juiced, it just doesnt fucking matter. its a hobby, thats all it is. and people who take it seriously need to find something else to occupy their time because if ur a middle or lower class person sitting there caring about what a millionaire primadonna stuck up athlete is doing with his time, ur life just sucks. change something. seriously. if ur over 18 years old and u paint ur face to go to games or u get down when "ur team" loses then, i dunno what to say, ur a lost cause and probably the biggest loser on the face of the earth.

When the Eagles finally win a Super Bowl that’s when I know I can leave the world of sports behind and fins some other diversion to occupy my time and money.

Ya damn right my brotha!

I'm out the door before that.

The thing I like about getting older as a sports fan is that I gain more perspective on the games themselves with the only thing that really gets me exercised is the double standard I find in the media, the leagues, and the fans themselves. Yeah, I pulled for the Magic last night but it didn't ruin my day that they lost. I have next to no use for Tiger Woods but I won't waste my time trying to flame him on a messageboard. I still enjoy a baseball game but it hasn't been must-see viewing for me since the Braves fell off and Barry Bonds was blackballed. The media and legal-generated controversies surrounding figures like Michael Vick and Bonds showed me clearly that many teams no matter the sport aren't playing to win championships but to soothe the supposed collective fragile ego of the mainstream.

To quote Herm Edwards, "You play to win the game." Too often I don't see many playing to win the game either between the lines or in the skyboxes. When the Eagles finally win a Super Bowl that's when I know I can leave the world of sports behind and fins some other diversion to occupy my time and money.

We've allowed the media to make caricatures out of human beings to our delight. We've allowed professional sports to become more than the outlet it should be. I can't say we care too much when I look at the totality of the professional sports industry - its no different than the movie/TV/radio industry to me in that regard - its too big of an influence to care TOO much. We probably dont care enough about the actual consequences of thinking its just a "sport".

I used to be like that about a bunch of teams, but I've crystallized it down to one team and one team only: the Steelers. And even then, it depends on how they lose. Two Super Bowls in four years (after a 26-year wait) can make everything seem as right as rain.

I can't get twisted up about baseball in June or July or August or September. I'm a New Yorker and a longtime Yankee fan. If it's not happening in October, I don't care. Frankly, since the Yankees have so few pitchers (1 maybe) who are willing to pitch inside with power, I could care less if they win or not. I'm not sure they really want it. We already know that Varitek can kick A-Rod's ass -- so this is a funny time.

Georgetown is no longer an icon for Black America -- so I've let that one go. College basketball is a watered-down source of Affirmative Action funding for colleges incapable of offering true preparatory experiences for the NBA. Once colleges have to earn their keep with a real D-league, the NCAA hoops program will die a rightful death.

I used to love hockey too, but after the retirements of so many great players and the strike, it's been a slow re-engagement process. I like Ovechkin and Malkin more than Crosby so the "cult of personality" thing in hockey isn't really working for me the way its supposed to. I think we're all supposed to like Crosby the most -- then hate Ovechkin or something like that.

The NBA is just too damned watered down. It would be nice to have one really cool team out there, but does anyone besides his mama really think that Paul Pierce has a "nice game." He's effective as all hell, but it's Bull in the China Shop 101. Eegad!! Cleveland's uglier than Miss Piggy. The Lakers are probably gonna win but Mizzo and Kenny Smith say they're the least deserving champs of the last 25 years. Orlando? Not!!! So, its tough all over.

I'm rolling with the NFL and any team that smacks New England upside the head. The last four years have been like a DREAM!! Steelers, Colts, Giants, Steelers. Do not pinch me!! I'm still dreaming!!

Care too much? I don't know man. Sports is so engrained into the fabric of many of our lives. My dad listened to the Twins win Game 7 of the World Series while serving in Desert Storm back in '91. Wait, run that back. He LISTENED to the game. Like on the radio. That game went extra innings man. Pitchers duel. So for me it's in the blood. When LeBron hit the Game winner against the Magic, my whole family (Moms, Pops, three sisters and my future bro in law) was gathered around the TV, as soon as the ball went through the net we all began to scream and jump around like we were there. Pure bedlam.

It's hard to say we care too much. I've never resorted to fisticuffs but I'm passionate. My blood pressure does rise. I called you when my Twins managed to lose 3 straight games in walk off fashion to those dreaded Yanks. I mean this stuff means something to me. It's the lens through which I look at life.

The money athletes make doesn't bother me. The fact that female athletes aren't on an even keel with thier male counterparts financially does though.

Steroids and drugs in general don't really move me. If you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying. This is America baby. How else would they keep up with us?
