They fought the best fighters in there weight divisions because they wanted to prove they were champions. It wasn't about pay per view numbers. Nowadays, boxers wait for the prettiest match ups so they can display there skills against less talented opposition and make the big pay day. Smarter, maybe. Diminshing to the sport, definitely. There is no way I put up pay per view money to see these paper battles of today. When I say paper battles I mean the fights look good on paper but real boxing fans know when a fighter is undermatched and it has nothing to do with won-loss record either.
