Look At All These (76ers) Rumors!
![]()
The NBA Free Agency period kicked off this morning - one of the
biggest potential signings has Rasheed Wallace headed to Boston (Great! Now they may have a center shooting from behind the arc). My concern is with the 76ers who need to take the next step before all of this young talent becomes stagnant. I don’t know if these potential moves will help their position this season as much as it puts them in a better position for the 2010 free agency class.

According to Martin Frank at the Courier Post online, there is a rumor circulating that has the Sixers looking to trade center Samuel Dalembert and guard Willie Green (Louis Williams has been ruled out) to the Houston Rockets for injury-plagued forward Tracey McGrady. The prognosis of Houston center Yao Ming (may miss the entire 2009-10 season) and the Sixers’ willingness tor grab McGrady’s expiring contract despite not returning to February at the earliest may make this a deal worth exploring. The potential roadblock is the 15 percent trade kicker which adds 3.8 million to his contract worth 11.4 million already.

The South Florida Sun Sentinel is reporting a rumor that has the Sixers trading Elton Brand to the Miami heat for forward/center Jermaine O’Neal and guard Daquon Cook. This will not happen unless the 76ers add another player or a third team is added. IMO, this deal would kill the Sixers, I’ll roll the dice on another season with Brand, I’m not touching Jermaine O’Neal.

Finally from the Philadelphia Daily News, there is word that the Sixers may be willing to do a sign and trade with free agent point guard Andre Miller that would send him to the Portland Trailblazers for guard Steve Blake and another player. This all falls apart if the Blazers are able to sign free agent Hedo Turkoglu, as they cannot afford both.
Stay tuned as I look into some potential deals that may improve the 76ers next season.

I thought Andre Miller was going to the Lakers

I also heard this morning that Rasheed may end up in San Antonio.

San Antonio and Orlando are in the running but all signs point to Boston. Mizzo has Miller going to LA.

Uh…thanks bruh. Now I can’t get that song outta my head. Dammit man.

I think Miller will end up in Portland.

I still say LA because of his Mom.

I like wherever Rasheed ends up to win the title again. If he is paired with either Duncan or Garnett, they will form a formidable defensive tandem. Offensively, he’s a better fit in San Antonio at least with respect to spacing.

The Spurs would be unguardable.
Starting Five:
PG - Parker
SG - Ginobli
SF - Jefferson
PF - Duncan
C - Wallace

I’ve always loved Rasheed. Always. Throughout his career. But until he proves it to me, this is my position: Rasheed Wallace belongs on a beach.

Also, brotherreport:
I don’t think Manu would start for the Spurs.

By “proves it to me” do you mean win a championship? Or win a championship AGAIN?
Or something else like “play hard during the regular season”?

@Temple
I agree 100%. Wallace is a difference maker. I was talking to my dad about it yesterday. Pops thinks he’s a headcase with all the techs and such but I’ve always been a Sheed guy.
He makes S.A. and Boston instant favorites to win the title IMO. He helps Cleveland and Orlando as well but not as much as the above two teams.

The Raptors are prepared to throw 5 years $60 million at Turkoglu.

I mean “show a little interest”.

Cleveland + Sheed = Lakers 2004

By “show a little interest,” I believe you really mean — “Act as if the games from which you derive your livelihood are NOT predetermined charades controlled by ownership, the Commissioner, and his compromised officials with ties to organized crime.
Act as if you need this game more than I do — so that I can justify spending as much time as I do blogging and watching this predetermined charade.
Act as if you CARE about ME!!”
I think that’s what you’re saying.
I think Rasheed is to old and too fundamentally honest about these obvious contradictions to EVER AGAIN show interest. I think you got his INTEREST in 2000 (and the refs contributed mightily to undermining that) — and you got it again from 2004 to 2007 (and some would argue that the refs did the exact same thing in several series).
Rather than ask him to show a little interest, you should holler at him about why he’s migrated from the box to the perimeter — and whether there is a correlation with officiating of his offensive game.

Tariq —
I am being somewhat facetious. At the end of the day, it’s like Russell Crowe’s character said in Gladiator.
“ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!?!”
His matches, too, were scripted. Got to give the people…

This “migration” is what I’m talking about. I LOVE the fact that Sheed has 3-pt range, but he just seems content to jack up threes and average 12 ppg when he could be doing so much more. And it isn’t even about the numbers. I would be fine with him averaging a dozen on the right team. It just seems TO ME like he’s not really into it anymore. And I don’t think his body is breaking down. I think it’s mental. That’s why I don’t agree that he’d do well ANYWHERE. I think he’d be phenomenal in Boston. KG would light a fire under his ass, and we’d see Roscoe again. But that’s just my take. I could be completely off the mark.

To be honest, I think this whole Detroit Pistons squad just quit. I think they quit a long time ago. I think they quit before Michael Curry and Allen Iverson even got here. And it wasn’t just one person’s fault; the whole atmosphere was just one of… malaise. Maybe that’s why Chauncey Billups flourished when he left. But I can see it in the body language of not just Sheed, but of everyone else. Look at Tayshaun Prince. It’s obvious that he needs a hug. Look at Rip: He’s aging by the minute. That is a team that needs rejuvenation. I don’t know how that environment will change in the Ben Gordon/Charlie V era, but something is rotten in Motown, I can tell you that. So maybe that’s what I saw in Sheed’s demeanor over the last coupla seasons.
