Steve “Air” McNair Dead At 36
Two found shot to death in Nashville, TN condo.
Double homicide or murder/suicide?
Damn. What is going on?
Reports say the bodies of Steve McNair and a woman identified as his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, 20, were found earlier today in a Nashville, TN condo around 1 pm local time. Sources say the bodies were found by McNair friend and body guard Wayne Neeley. Neeley then called his friend Robert Gaddy who made the 911 call. McNair was shot multiple times…including once in the head. She was shot once in the head. There was a pistol found near her body. Officials haven’t determined if the shooting happened late last night or early
this morning. McNair did so much for the city on and off the field and just opened a restaurant. The third pick out of Alcorn State played 13 seasons in the NFL for the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens. He was a three time pro bowler and was Co-MVP with Peyton Manning in 2003. He was a player I personally connected with because he left his soul on the field win or lose. He played hurt, banged up and bruised his entire career. He was a true leader on the field. How many games did you watch of him leading a team down going into the fourth to victory? The 2001 Super Bowl was one of the most exciting games I have ever seen. What a finish!
Coming out of Alcorn, he was the highest drafted Black quarterback at the time, when the Oilers picked him 3rd overall in the 1995 draft. He was third in the Heisman balloting in 1994 but did bring home the 1994 Walter Payton award for the best player in Division 1-AA…where he still holds records for career yards passing (14,496) and total offense (16,823).
In my opinion, Steve McNair is a Hall of Fame quarterback based on his winning record, comeback wins, playoff appearances and overall toughness.
His Tennessee teams were horror for the opposition on both sides of the ball. He and Eddie George formed a dynamic tandem and along with a bend but don’t break defense and a sound coaching staff, rebuilt a franchise. McNair did a lot for the organization.
My son just texted me with “That was my boy before Culpepper.”
Thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Mechelle McNair. She was also the Mother of three of his four sons and also to Sahel’s family.
Sad, very sad. All this death.
I’m sure we’ll have more when the story develops.
Very sad story to say the least. He was definitely one of the best to play the position, even with limited resources and was as tough as they come.
RIP “Air” McNair. May your ka (soul) find its way into Amen-ta (the spirit world).
Real sad. RIP Air…
Man, oh man. What’s goin’ on?
Another good man is dead today. RIP Steve.
RIP Steve…………..you were one of the greatest to ever play the QB position.
Having watched and followed Steve during his years in Alcorn, this is an extremely sad time for me.
McNair was definitely a Hall of Fame QB in my opinion.
The 20-year old woman’s name, who was allegedly shot in the chest once is Sahel Kazemi.
If I am not mistaken, her name is of Iranian origin… maybe a jealous boyfriend or family member?
In Atlanta, there was a case in which an Indian father didn’t approve of his son marrying an African-American woman, and the father set up a hit and the woman was murdered… the Indian father did go to jail…
It is a sad and evil time in the world we live in right now. We must live hard and love that much harder.
I agree with that TBR because life is fragile and it’s always best to enjoy all the good parts.
Here’s my post from SOMM which is appropriate here as well:
RIP to Air McNair…damn, I’ve been typing a variation on that epitaph too much lately.
I think we all can deal with the concept of death after a certain age but the relative youth and/or situations under which some of these celebrities have passed has been astonishing. We’re human so yes, we will speculate as to the circumstances under which some of these people lived and died but it still galls when the blurb flashes on the news crawl that a relatively young person who we know vicariously dies.
McNair dying hits close to home for me because like hiim I’m the product of an HBCU but also because he was three years younger than me which reminds me of my own mortality. Sports on a narrative level is all about stories. McNair’s story was memorable for where he came from and what he accomplished despite people considered more knowledgeable than us peons, who don’t know any better, said and did to blunt his ascendance to the highest levels. That intestinal toughness is what I’ll always remember about Air McNair more than any Super Bowl highlights because he was rock-solid on the field which is the lasting contribution he should be remembered for other than his children.
RIP to Air McNair again and nothing but heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fans.
Well said brotha. Thanks for that.
RIP Steve McNair. He was a true warrior.
Harvey D – It’s been a rough year for me when it comes to losing people close to me.
On one end I lose my Grandmther who lived 75 years and succumbed to congestive heart failure, we knew her death was inevitable, but the hurt we feel isn’t.
At the other end, I lost a friend that I watched grow up who went home with a woman that he knew one night, while they were having sex here boyfriend came in (she never told him that he had a key) and she cries rape. The boyfriend hits him with a hammer (knocking him out) and beat him to death with a shovel.
I’m a year older than Steve McNair, and you think about your own mortality and how we tend to look at their stature and saw “How can this happen to them?” You realize that they’re ordinary people like us that just happen to do extraordinary things.
Matthew 24:7-8
7.For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8. ALL THESE ARE THE BEGINNING OF SORROWS.
McNair was 11-4 career vs. the Steelers.
That’s a HOF stat for yo ass right there…
that 911 call is stressful to listen to, it took such a long time for the dispatcher to get that info on his location
