Where and When Will Michael Vick Play?

Yes another Michael Vick piece on TSF. We’ll keep churning them out until what’s done is done. Hypocrisy aside regarding America’s hatred of dog fighting, let’s have a discussion on potential Vick destinations? Oh another thing, Michael Vick shouldn’t have to coon for anybody just to get reinstated.

Free from home confinement today, the mercurial one is now available to sign with any team that wants him. He’s paid his due to society folks. Isn’t that what America is all about? There should be none of this he needs to be contrite and humble himself before the world. He lost the richest contract in NFL history…at the time he signed it…his reputation is smeared and he’s unemployed. It’s time for America to move on. He knows he was in the wrong and paid for it dearly.

His sentence is done.

He wants to play in the NFL…not the CFL or the UFL. Unfortunately, Mike might have to play in some sort of gimmick Wildcat offense to “prove” to everyone he’s still an NFL athlete.

Here’s the think, you can’t tell me there’s 60 quarterbacks in the league better than him. There’s just no way.

There’s definitely not one in San Francisco. Not a one. I personally feel this is the best spot for Mike. He needs a iron fist coach who will make sure the media attention will not tear him or the team he signs with apart.

Coach Mike ain’t gonna take any stuff either way. There are rumblings Mike could land with the Patriots and run the Wildcat there. While this might be an amazing idea (because of the prospect of throwing to Moss obviously), Michael Vick is a quarterback.

Give him his shot.

This is all contingent on a meeting with Roger Goodell. Some say he’s not meeting with Mike until August…well into training camp…and even then might not decide to lift the indefinite suspension.

The NFL will be under all kinds of PETA scrutiny and there surely will be picketing outside of each and every stadium Mike plays in. There will be boos and chants and posters not cool for TV consumption and jokes and whatever else unattractive to the league that will go down. How will Mike deal with it and how will the league support one of its own? Mike will put fans in the seats because fans surely will just come out for the spectacle of it all. He’s on probation for three years and under a three years state suspended sentence for dog fighting. Is Goodell waiting to see how the public responds before reinstatement? Should he be the judge and jury in all of this? Is this all about employee privilege?

Seattle? The Rams? Dolphins even with Pat White now there? Why is Oakland being mentioned? They have a young quarterback, but you never know with Al Davis. I’d take him in Philly to back up Donovan.

Where will he land?

My question is…… What’s the number? How many quarterbacks do you think are better than Michael Vick, as in if Michael Vick came to them and said “I want to workout for your team” how many would say yes.

I think the answer is…….. 2. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Other than that….. Vick is at least the equal of every other quarterback in the league.

  2. Temple3 says:

Vick is still a huge risk and a PR nightmare.

  3. Okori Wadsworth says:

T3: But he can’t get a workout? I’m not asking for a contract. Just a workout.

  4. sankofa says:

What ever happened to that group of boot licking, ass kissing, gcadre of crack ho’s that Vick and every other players have been paying protection money to?

Isn’t there a section in the collective barganing agreement or even the general legal books about the right to seek employment and protection from discrimination in employment? ( or however they want to phrase it)

Huge risk? PR nightmare? The business of the NFL slave factory has gone beyond any semblance of ethics or morality to be embarassed.

Unfortunately Vick is a typical athlete, soft, unintelligent and lacking conviction. I would sue the shit out of this plantation and that pimp Good(h)ell. Even if I loose, tying them up into all kinds of prolonged court drama.

I can’t work? Fuck you! Banzai!

  5. Temple3 says:

I’ve maintained from the beginning that from a pure football standpoint, the place for MV7 is St. Louis. The Rams play in a dome. They play in a relatively weak division of the NFC (last 3 NFC SB teams came from weakest 2 divisions). They just invested a high draft pick in a left tackle. Mark Bulger has been unproductive and the fans expectations are in the basement. Most importantly, the Rams feature Steven Jackson.

I don’t think he’s a great QB and I don’t think he’s better than most guys in the league. He’s more spectacular than EVERY QB in the league — but that only translated into wins one time in his short career. Guess what else happened that year? Jim Mora took over from Dan Reeves and the Falcons defense improved from 30th to 14th in points — and from 32nd to 14th in yards.

For his career, Vick has never really even been a decent passer (admittedly he hasn’t played with decent receivers in an ideal system). Having the arm strength is not the same as throwing a catchable ball on time to receivers who don’t break stride to finish your plays. In his last three seasons, he was 25th, 24th and 29th in net yards per pass. NFL teams can do better than that with the guys they have in camp right now. The Falcons were 30th, 27th and DEAD-ASS LAST in passing yards in his last 3 seasons. Teams can do better than that.

I would like to see him play again in the NFL. I would like to see him succeed, but I’d also like to see him evolve into an authentic Dual Threat based on his superb ability to keep plays alive. He still has to hone his craft. He was incarcerated right at a time when he appeared to be turning the corner. He had a career high in touchdown passes, but his rating was only 75. His completion percentage was only 52%. That’s not good enough.

From a business standpoint, MV7 probably needs to play in a Chocolate City — and there simply are not that many to choose from. Atlanta is out. Detroit took Stafford and could possibly lean his way, but given the investment, the young kid from UGA is getting all the reps until 2010 — at least. And that leaves Washington, DC. This is essentially the same situation as Detroit and Oakland. Teams with recent high draft picks at QB aren’t going down that road.

At the end of the day, perhaps New England is the best spot. He will learn more football there in a month than he has in his entire career. And if he can’t make it work there, it will likely be the end of the NFL road. The time to prepare for life after the NFL is right now. If he’s lucky, there will be a lot more of the latter than the former.

  6. Mizzo says:

Temple I hear what you are saying brothaman, but until a Black quarterback is given receivers from the gate and not exclusively an above average tight end, I can’t wholeheartedly agree with you.

More pressure is applied when the defense knows there are no true weapons. If a linebacker is shadowing the tight end, what the hell is the quarterback supposed to do but run for his life?

Randall Cunningham with Keith Jackson, Steve McNair with Wycheck…dude.

Dude played in like 206 systems right? Where’s the consistency?

I agree he needs to hone his craft tremendously but until franchises understand Black quarterbacks should not have to operate under some ridiculous me against the world mindset, don’t even draft them.

White quarterbacks with superior talent are given weapons at every turn. Without hesitation.

Kurt Warner has been afforded receivers quarterbacks dream of. Look what it has done for him. Yes his quick release has a lot to do with it, but damn man, c’mon.

What happened when a Black coach had a Black quarterback?

The most points in history. There is not a lot of difference between 7 and 7 besides Randall’s length.

  7. Temple3 says:

    Okori — Sankofa:

Let’s go back to square one for a minute. To paraphrase Allen Iverson, “We’re talking about dogs, man. Dogs! Dogs? Dogs?”

In the grand scheme of things, to the descendants of those who valued PEPPER more than bloodhounds, Vick’s transgression might seem a minor thing to be forgiven at the duration of a “sentence.” But the verse lives on — and the next stanza is as terse as the first. “Run nigger run.”

Killing man’s best friend (in a settler colonial white supremacist nation state) is akin to going on a Nat Turner rampage.

He is a unique PR nightmare. He is not a morality problem in the sense of someone who feeds their children to the dogs (James Harrison?) or someone who beats a woman or someone who runs over an immigrant pedestrian. He is someone who profited from the “sport” of the masters. He tried to change places at the plantation table without saying a word to the man in the big chair. I’m not at all suggesting he is a hero, but I am wholly suggesting that his was not a garden variety transgression.

There is no question that MV7 would have been better off snorting a stadium full of cocaine. And so, he cannot get a workout — but Matt Jones couldn’t get suspended (to save his life? as the saying goes).

A work out is akin to advertising your camp as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Owners are saying, “The Fugitive Slave Law is still in full effect. We harbor no criminals here. No gamebreakers here. We’re all clean.” It’s not a referendum on his talent — none of this is. It’s a referendum on how deeply touched “white” society was by his particular “crime.”

It was, in a sense, the greatest “property” crime imaginable.

  8. Temple3 says:

    Mizzo:

Vick’s situation wasn’t worse than what McNabb was saddled with for years in Philly. At least MV7 had the #1 rushing attack in the league to a few years. David Garrard has played with a drug addict (Jones), a guy who either didn’t want to play or gave two shits about finishing plays (Porter), a draft BUST (Williams) and a tight end that no one can name. McNair was a 60% passer for 9 seasons.

If Vick did that, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Even with all of his history — he’d probably be at someone’s “Underground Railroad” stop right now.

When it comes to comparing him to other QBs who were straddled with awful offensive talent, I won’t make any excuses for Vick — he doesn’t need them. He won big games and big playoff games, too.

  9. Mizzo says:

We definitely agree on that bruh.

  10. Jarhead says:

    To sponsors of the NFL:

If Vick plays again I will absolutely never watch another NFL game again, and I will steer my sons away from the sport. There needs to be a line drawn, with Vick and lowlifes like him on the other side of it.

  11. Temple3 says:

    Mizzo:

Since you brought up Randall and Denny Green, do you think it would be beneficial for Vick to play a season with Green in the UFL?

  12. Mizzo says:

Yes that’s all I’ve been saying. I truly feel quarterbacks need an extension of themselves to flourish. I’m raising one.

  13. Mizzo says:

Nash just agreed to a two year extension.

  14. kos says:

    Mizzo -

Couldn’t agree more. However, I think it’s more important for Vick to have a black qb coach or offensive coordinator. Most OC’s and QB coaches are white, and think that someone should play the game they way that THEY played it. I’ve always said that’s one of the things that ruins most black qb’s. If Vick could find an open minded qb coach/oc that would teach him how to throw more accurately and mix it in with his running and escape abilities, I think he’d be back at a Pro Bowl level within a year.

  15. kos says:

    Another thought -
Why do pro sports owners bow down to PETA? They threaten to boycott games? Fine. The hardcore PETA members don’t buy tickets and probably don’t watch anyway. They can hold a demonstration, but it won’t change too many ticket buyers minds. NFL owners are afraid of the blowback from bringing in Vick? There won’t be much blowback for them. It’ll be more for Vick. The same racist yelling, and some drunks that got their liquid courage on throwing stuff at him.

  16. Jerold Wells Jr. says:

I think MV7 should go to a place where he can chill and learn the game. Square 1 baby. I’m talking practice squad. He should be on a team where he couldn’t possibly have a chance to play this year. Said team should also have strong enough personalities in place to reach out and help Vick. I’m thinking Philly, Indy, New England, NY Giants or Pittsburgh. I’d really like to see him in the Steelers organization under Tomlin. Then take a year and play for Denny Green in this upstart league and come back to set the league on fire. Vick will be under more pressure than a little bit so his game will have to be air tight. From a QB stand point the fundamentals just aren’t there. He needs those to get back on the field and succeed.

  17. I hopeful that he will be able to endure some of the B.S. that’s gonna come his way in the form of PETA and anyone else that wants to pile on – I guess can be said for the owner that signs him.

There’s no need for Goodell to drag his feet when it comes to allowing this man to pursue a living again..if he does, I’m with Sankofa sue the NFL.

Here’s a longshot: Washington, Jason Campbell and the organization are at odds. I can see the DC fans wrapping their arms around Vick. Given Campbell’s status it may not be the best move until next season.

And besides, Daniel Snyder may be willing to pay more than what any of us expect.

  18. TheLastPoet says:

I know this is a Vick post, Mizzo, but since you mentioned Nash’s extension, I want to discuss it briefly.

Someone, anyone, tell me please: in what world does Nash “earn” a $22 million extension and Iverson can’t even get on for the mid-level exception? (The answer is, evidently, in “this” world,” of course!)

And please don’t call me a racist – I love Nash and some of my best friends are white! There, I said it :-)

Seriously, I’m not necessarily talkin bout race, although we can go there, if we must.

I just want to hear all the reasons why Nash – who is a year older than Iverson, and who gets too little blame for the Suns’ collective slide out of the playoffs this year, meanwhile Iverson gets too much blame for the Pistons sneaking into the playoffs without him – is $22 million dollars better than Iverson right now.

Somebody help out an old poet, please…

  19. My bad… I’m hopeful.

  20. Mizzo says:

Poet…please don’t get me talking about Nash. I thought the same thing when I mentioned the extension.

This is exactly what we rail against here. There’s this bullshit conventional wisdom that Nash is one of the GOAT even though he really hasn’t done much in the league…statistically or otherwise.

Dude had two good years and was rewarded MVP in both of them. Absurd. There’s no way possible this cat has more MVPs than Iverson, LeBron, Kobe, Kidd, Payton, Webber, Garnett, Pierce, Miller, Barkley, Erving, Moses, Wade, Carter, Paul, Shaq, Kevin Johnson, Dumars, Thomas…etc.

    How can this be?

  21. Temple3 says:

    LP:

Iverson is the face of the Philadelphia 76ers, but he’s not on their roster. Steve Nash is the face of the Phoenix Suns — and he’s on their roster.

Given Nash’s slight figure, he may or may not complete his contract. This is his Big Pay Day Hallelujah Contract. Part of that $22M is payback for earning less than $12M per year for an entire career.

Iverson’s probably made about $50M or so more than Nash over their respective careers — maybe more. So, who is to pay Iverson for “working on the cheap?”

Only one franchise can do that — and he ain’t going home again.

  22. Mizzo says:

I’m really surprised many of you aren’t saying San Fran. They have NO quarterback, Frank Gore, Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and a capable veteran in Isaac Bruce. He’d be great there.

  23. I was with Frisco until ownership said they wouldn’t touch him. If New Orleans or Jacksonville weren’t committed to Brees or Garrard they would be ideal places. I wouldn’t rule out Miami next season, Pennington is in a contract year.

Picture Vick and Bush in the Wildcat?!?!?!?

  24. Temple3 says:

“Model Citizen throws for 5,000 yards…Loses Job.”

  25. Temple3 says:

    TBR:

That would be nice to see as well. It would be interesting because for all of their offensive fireworks last season, the Saints were average. Vick would make their running game stronger and keep their defense off the field longer.

  26. Mizzo says:

Exactly. He’s another QB who escapes scrutiny.

  27. Mizzo says:

    Yessir. Win something.

  28. origin says:

Man Poet don’t even get me started on Nash.

Mizzo as always I thank you brotha for sticking up for these black QBs. You know how I feel about this mess.

I am sick and tired of black QBs having to make something out of nothing.

Its amazing how in team sports such as basketball and football….how black QBs and black stars (NBA) are often times put in situations where its them against the world.

Anyway as far as Vick he should say F the NFL. We all know that the league will suspend Vick for 1 to 2 years. They may also black ball him. But if he is allowed to play in the league he will never get a chance at QB and will have to play WR/KR for the league minimum.

Now lets look at this, The Negros for lease (NFL) league minimum.

The minimum salary structure for 2007 is as follows:

    Rookies and first-year players $285,000
    Second-year players $360,000
    Third-year $435,000
    Fourth-year $510,000
    Fifth- through seventh-year $595,000
    Eighth- through tenth-year $720,000
    Eleventh-year and longer $820,000

So to be a KR/WR Vick would make a chump change of $595,000 to get his brains beat in for 16 games plus preseason.

When he could got to the UFL (rehab his image) and play for maybe 650K (which is their max. salary). I believe that the UFL will last for a minimum of 2 years. If Vick can ride that and them maybe go to the CFL (His NFL suspension should be over then so he could go there).

There he could make probably 600K (heck Henry Burris made 400K and Casey Printers made 500K as QBs) as a QB and not some RB/WR/KR crap. True he will play 18 games, but he will play in a league that has had QBs who have played well into their 40s (giving him a longer time to earn his money). Have supported mobile QBs and the rules are perfect for a mobile QB.

Plus the field is larger and the game isn’t as physical so there may be less chance he can get injured (especially with him playing QB). Also taking into account that the league has been open to black QBs far longer then the good ole boy NFL.

Now the key to joining the CFL if the UFL goes under is for Vick to pander to the NFL so that he can get his suspension lifted. Because as Sankofa mentioned the fine folks in Canada or on another level when it comes to animals. But if he can get his suspension lifted from the NFL this may still be an option.

  29. origin says:

Oh and Temple you are right about this

“It was, in a sense, the greatest “property” crime imaginable.”

Yes it may even be the greatest property crime in his-story.

And I hope that dude sues the fu&K out of the NFL.

  30. Miranda says:

Origin, there’s something strange going on…I just read that the UFL would pay Vick up to a mil just to get him. This reeks of some sort of collusion between the UFL and NFL, I dont know, could be just me….but its almost a given Vick will be playing for the “Orlando whatevers” this fall.
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=mortensen_chris&id=4342120

Anyway, I had to step back from the Vick madness yesterday because it was too much. These micky-fick media slugs were working my LAST nerve with all the “he has to be contrite”….”he needs to make a public statement”…”we need to hear from him”..bullshit. Bullshit to the highest of bullshittery.

  31. origin says:

    I agree sista.

And yes there is collusion with the UFL and the NFL. For example the UFL only wants to work together with the NFL and not be there competition.

Also there may be some NFL owners that are part owners in the NFL. Realize that there most of the AFL (Arena football) teams are owned by NFL owners.

Its the best bet for Vick to go to the UFL because they will only play 6 regular season games. And 2 playoff games at the most.

So 600K to 1 mil for 8 to 6 games is perfect. Then he could pimp that into going to the CFL possibly.

  32. origin says:

Oh and Miranda I can’t take this Vick stuff either. Then yesterday ESPN has breaking news that Mcnair was drunk when he was shot. And had a blood alcohol level 2 times the legal limit.

I mean really these MFers how no respect what so ever.

  33. Miranda says:

Origin, yet there is nothing on espn about Big Ben being sued in civil court? Sketchy as it is, its news….but I guess there is something about it that warrants NO attention..hmmm…wonder what that could be

    http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9833272/Roethlisberger-listed-as-defendant-in-NV-lawsuit

  34. Matthew Fudge says:

“he has to be contrite”….”he needs to make a public statement”…”we need to hear from him”..bullshit. Bullshit to the highest of bullshittery.

Why don’t they just tell him to put white paint on his face and do a two-step and get it over with? WTH?? Actually, I take that back. I knew he was gonna have to go through this months ago. As many times as ESPN looped his perp walk (wearing the gray suit), I knew there was a good chance this would happen. Hate it when I’m right.

  35. Matthew Fudge says:

“I mean really these MFers how no respect what so ever.”

Of course they don’t. It’d be too much like right.

  36. Miranda says:

LOL! A couple of my friends completely hi-jacked a Vick commenting section on ESPN and MADE it about the whole “ESPN covering for Big Ben” forum…..oh look! ESPN folds and actually puts up an article! Oh looky, its one titled “no criminal probe in Rothleisberger allegations”…LOL yeah,
    stay classy “world wide leader”.

  37. Eric says:

Vick has served his time and he has every right to play again.

And of course ESPN is ignoring the “Big Ben” rape story, they are too interested in passing “moral” judgement about t-shirts and dunktapes.

  38. Matthew Fudge says:

Let’s see if Stuart Scott and J.A. Adande will bow their heads and pull a Stepin Fetchit or actually call bs on ESPN.

  39. MIKE VICK SAY SON YOU THINK YOU COULD PLAY AND THAT BACK AND GOLD IM TALKIN ABOUT THA NewOrleans Saints BECAUS3 W3 N33D A GOOD PLAYER LIKE YOU TO PLAY FOR US AND YOU ARE MY DAWG AND YOU IN TH3 TOP 5 QB IT Peyton Manning DREW BREES YOU TIM BRADY AND Brett Favre THE B3ST IM OUT 4RM NEW ORLEANS

  40. EV says:

WILL VICK PLAY FOR BUFFALO WITH T.O.????

  41. Matthew Fudge says:

    That’s a thought. Why not?

  42. Devoirs says:

MICHAEL VICK IS READY TO PLAY FOOTBALL ONCE AGAIN.

    VICK WILL VANQUISH ONCE AGAIN.

GEORGE W. BUSH IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CRIMINAL STALKER AND SERIAL KILLER!

“In her suit, Margie Schoedinger states that George W. Bush committed sexual crimes against her, organized harassment and moral pressure on her, her family members and close relatives and friends. As Schoedinger said, she was strongly recommended to keep her mouth shut. . . . Furthermore, she alleges that George Bush ordered to show pressure on her to the point, when she commits suicide” (go to Google, type “blog of drizzten Margie Schoedinger,” and hit “Enter”).

“George [Bush is personally complicit] in the death (murder to be precise) of my friend Margie Schoedinger in September of 2003. Determining the exact whereabouts and contacts of . . . George Bush on September 21 thru 22, 2003, should be entirely lacking in difficulty” (Leola McConnell—Nevada Progressive Democratic Candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010).

McConnell is correct: Bush applying pressure (continuously criminally stalking Margie Schoedinger) purposefully to force Schoedinger to commit suicide does in fact constitute murder where it culminated in her death.

Bush’s method of murdering Schoedinger cannot exist in a vacuum: he must have murdered other people in the same way.

During Bush’s presidency, of course Bush would have desired to kill people whom he hated or get them out of his way. Insofar as Bush was clearly capable of murdering Schoedinger—even in “broad daylight”—and is clearly capable of getting away with it, in consideration of common sense and the laws of human nature, Bush of course murdered numerous people in the disgusting way he murdered Schoedinger. One can examine public information; in various situations where people who sought to oppose or disadvantage Bush ever so frighteningly ended up “committing suicide”—specifically—Bush murdered them just like he murdered Schoedinger. For example, Bush murdered James Howard Hatfield by continuously criminally stalking Hatfield to the point that Hatfield could not get away from it—purposefully to force Hatfield to commit suicide—and Hatfield committed suicide in desperation to escape. However, the vast majority of such scandalous cases will never come out (the grisly details are typically hard to substantiate). A prosecutor really can lawfully charge a former president with murdering one or more people in the disgusting way Bush murdered Schoedinger. The American people unfortunately live in a world where evil presidents can murder any number of people—figuratively—with a wave of a magic wand and get away with it.

(There are thousands of copies of the information above on the Internet. Please feel free to go to any major search engine, type “GEORGE W.
