Where Were These People When Bush Ran America Into the Ground?

Posted in Blogroll on July 20th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

There’s a video at the end but I gotta get something off my chest first.

There are events in history that when we look back we shake our collective heads because of the absurdity of it all. Fire hoses, lynchings, cats getting dragged, all White juries, making Black face the race of crime, Black scholars getting embarrassed in their own homes, rappers being violated, “mistake” shootings, “mistake” beatings, New Year’s Day videotaped murders, etc.

When Barack Obama was elected POTUS, you heard this mass groundswell of how America is now a post racial society. It was euphoric. Apparently, there is no more racism so basically shut the hell up Black people, Brown people and whoever the hell else wants to whine about prejudice and discrimination because you got what you wanted. You can now call one of your own president. I told you all there would be a backlash.

Tuesday Morning Starting Five: The Is It Football Season Yet Edition

Posted in Blogroll on July 20th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

This time of year is horrible for sports. I can’t take all the Michael Vick stuff (all these pundits saying Michael Vick should go to the UFL (ratings) and is a third quarterback are smoking crack) that will go down the next couple of days, so the TV is off. Baseball has lost this fan in terms of watching it daily, so that’s out. What the heck does that leave? Rachel Maddow? Yeah, I dig her, but does she play football? Can she catch a skinny post and take it for six in front of “Prime Time”? Truck a 6’4″ 260 pound speed knockin’ linebacker? See where I’m at? Dammit. This is really bad. Like shopping when the Eagles are on bad. I clamor for the times of Heineken burps and wings mad extra hot when it’s cold outside or sitting up in the press box and seeing the game from a different perspective. Right now, this kinda sucks. CNN dominates the links today. You see something, send it to my box.

Where and When Will Michael Vick Play?

Posted in Blogroll on July 20th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

Yes another Michael Vick piece on TSF. We’ll keep churning them out until what’s done is done. Hypocrisy aside regarding America’s hatred of dog fighting, let’s have a discussion on potential Vick destinations? Oh another thing, Michael Vick shouldn’t have to coon for anybody just to get reinstated.

Free from home confinement today, the mercurial one is now available to sign with any team that wants him. He’s paid his due to society folks. Isn’t that what America is all about? There should be none of this he needs to be contrite and humble himself before the world. He lost the richest contract in NFL history…at the time he signed it…his reputation is smeared and he’s unemployed. It’s time for America to move on. He knows he was in the wrong and paid for it dearly.

His sentence is done.

He wants to play in the NFL…not the CFL or the UFL. Unfortunately, Mike might have to play in some sort of gimmick Wildcat offense to “prove” to everyone he’s still an NFL athlete.

The Perfect Exercise….

Posted in Blogroll on July 20th, 2009 by Okori Wadsworth

We have to raise this…it’s ugly but we have to raise it. In the African-American community there is a scourge…far, deep, and wide. Here’s what it is: for those of us lifting weights…our arms and chests are developed. but for anything below that…it’s a sad sorry sight.

Friday Fire: What Was Your Most Awkward Break Up?

Posted in Blogroll on July 17th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

I was gonna get real crazy with this one, but I’ll save that for later. Can’t do it J. lol

Are you the heart breaker or the heart broken?

Richard Jefferson is a nice cat. He’s one of the best guys in sports. He’s always chill in the locker room and pretty much gives you whatever you want in that setting. That being said, if dude broke up with his fiance by email, that kinda sucks. Right? I mean a 500k wedding is a lot less that signing off on a megaquizillion fa fillion jackpot down the road…resulting in a jilted ex-wife starring in her own reality show…opposite a bunch of Leviathan lookin’ pool boys…who think they can ball…right? RJ I’m with you bruh. Trust!! Ladies…Don’t g-g-g-g-g-get me (Yo, this dude…). Stay away…Hey, just look in my pockets ma. You’ll be pinchin’ a bunch of cookie dust.

Anyway, since it’s Freeeday, let’s get it this way. What was your most awkward break up? I’m not trying to open up any wounds. It ain’t that serious. Too much of that going around here lately. Don’t want you breaking the glass on your desk or anything.

I’ll take it all the way back to fifth grade for you. Remember those cot damn notes all folded up nice with pretty handwriting adorning the outside? Sometimes they smell all Liz Clairborned up. Yea those.

Thursday Morning Starting Five: The Please Get Some Sleep Edition

Posted in Blogroll on July 16th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

Like I need to talk. Don’t know many writers who do sleep like normal folk though. The mind is constantly wandering on a never ending quest for the next best reader test.

Working nights, refreshing this site daily, doing and transcribing interviews, networking and hitting my August 31st book deadline leaves very few hours of daily sleep for this man. Sometimes it gets so bad that I get an hour or two a day over a week period. This ain’t good. By the end of the week, I’m no good to nobody. When I do sleep, no matter how tired I am, I’m awake after three hours. Sup with that? My girl and other friends are concerned…

A Brand New Addition to the Family

A Brand New Addition to the Family

Hi. I’m occasional commenter Okori. You might know my work on this blog, or my own personal work, The Majesty of Wrestling. However…. I have been “hired” here to perform a task. I work out, religiously. Every other day I’m in the gym. So I have been “hired” as the new Health and Fitness correspondent for TSF. My beat will be as varied as the types you can find in the gym. From everything to getting interviews with professional strength and conditioning coaches to detailing the 10 workout flaws all African-American men make (I’ll give you a hint: one has to do with what we DON’T train.) I’ll be here to get you sharpened up and tight. But my beat does not only concern the men who read TSF. And the Ladies, I am sad to say, need just as much, if not more, work than the men do.

Let me make this clear: there are words banned in this general area. These are the following: toning, sculpting, and firming. Over the course of the time I have this position your ideas of what strength training can do for you will change.

In closing let me say….. thank you for letting me come aboard.

Wednesday Morning Starting Five: The Michael Steele Likes Fried Chicken and Potato Salad Too Edition

Posted in Blogroll on July 15th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

Michael Steele needs to chill fam. Seriously. I don’t understand why he continues to subject himself to all this mad coonin’. This is ridiculous. You know his own party is laughing at him, not with him. He’s the cat at this picnic. There’s no Black man, woman or child in their right mind who will drop everything and become a member of the GOP just because he says so. I don’t understand why you would do this to yourself Mike. Brotha please get it together. Real Rap? He reminds me of Humpty “I look funny, but yo I’m makin’ money see” Hump.

Straight gangsta mack…

I wonder if he likes the girls with the boom?

Tuesday Morning Starting Five: The I Would Reject the Offer Too Edition

Posted in Blogroll on July 14th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

Just because we have a Black president doesn’t mean racism will cease. Get over the sentiment and change the dynamic from within. Could you imagine the scene if Black Fathers were with Creative Steps and this went down? Would the cops actually have been called on them? How would this story have then been reported? If I was a parent of these children, I would have no regrets. This needs to be experienced now so when it smacks them in the face later, they’ll know whassup. They then can process it and move on. As far as Valley Club. Don’t act new now. You are what you are. If grown adults treat children in such a way young tears are shed for realizing the ignorance of man, you get what you deserve. I’m sure there are White folk across the land who see this as disgusting, but where are you? Why don’t you speak out publicly? Why do Blacks always have to be the bearer of truth’s fruit? If you don’t think there is racism going on, then stop it in its tracks. Speak up and speak out with the same passionate force it takes to keep your damn mouths shut when something so painfully obvious goes down. Your reticence is typical and keeps racism alive. Read most of the comments that correspond relevant pieces around the nation and get back to me. Don’t know why I’m expecting different. And yeah yeah, reporting it is not enough. Slam it!

Why Don’t Journalists Call Out Their Own?

Posted in Blogroll on July 13th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

Since I don’t do Monday links, I had to post this. Ed Hill’s conversation will be posted as soon as I receive one more quote from another writer.

Hope you had a great weekend. Remember, this is all about furthering the discussion. If you are a writer, editor or publisher who is doing great things, thank you.

My sister hit me up heated Sunday after watching Sports Reporters. She was hot over the comments made in particular by Mitch Albom and Mike Lupica regarding Steve McNair. John Saunders and Bob Ryan both handled themselves correctly.

Rant in five, four, three, two…one…
