Run It!

“Bad bwoy…big talk…”

Kardinal Official – Grindin’ (Selector Remix)

The title of the world’s fastest man has become more cliche’ in track and field than ever. So much so, that whenever there is a new world record…people are almost apathetic.

Welcome To Jamrock
Super sprinter Usain Bolt has been a quiet anomaly since he first arrived on the scene at the age of 14…however on Sunday, he did what a lot of so called experts would consider the impossible. He shattered his 100-meter time from last summer’s Olympics (9.69)…with a 9.58 run at the IAAF World Track Championships in Berlin.

In an interesting twist…Bolt achieved this feat in the same arena that Jesse Owens once dispelled hate in the 1936 Olympics, winning 5 Gold medals.

The more things change…the more they stay the same…as Bolt and the country of Jamaica continue to show their track and field prowess.

That was an amazing race. Bolt and Gay were absolutely flying down the track. Gay ran a 9.71. If he’d run that race in Beijing, that would have gone down as the greatest race in history (assuming Bolt drifts to that 9.69). Bolt is great for the sport and great for Jamaica. Kudos to him and all the runners! Great stuff.

Sidenote: I think that Jesse Owens did a great deal to reduce hatred, but the biggest achievement of those games was that he conclusively and empirically demonstrated the falsehood of “white supremacy.” Hitler’s core value wasn’t “hate,” it was “entitlement.” He was telling the world, I am going to run things, not because I hate you (even though I do), but because I am superior to you and therefore ENTITLED to do so.” Jesse snatched that plank from Adolph and the so-called Aryans.

Great point Temple3! Way to put the ’36 Olympics into perspective.

    Great Stuff.

Yeah! That was a great race and Bolt just made it look as if he wont it effortless! Great personality and a good comparison by the author!

Unreal. Bolt right now is Michael Johnson in the first half of the ’90s, Carl Lewis in the mid-late ’80s. Just incredible.
