Everybody Hates An Uppity Negro: How Tiger Woods Has United America

Posted in Blogroll on December 9th, 2009 by hcic

Tiger Woods’ fame is more curse than gift these days. Recently his fame has grown beyond the daytime, prime time and late night confines of The Golf Channel, ESPN or similarly narrowly focused periodicals. He is the number one topic in the sports world, the news world and especially the gossip world. The most liberal critics of any strain of domestic violence and most conservative proponents of marriage chuckle at his situation. Tiger Woods has united all the races and all the viewpoints in humor and disdain. Because it seems, not everyone likes golf, but everybody hates an uppity Negro.

Turns out we were all lying in wait. Waiting for the take down.

Truthfulness

Exhaustion. Hurts so good.

I have to be honest. This mission will not be easy. There will be days when I will dread this mission’s next battle.

And if you choose to follow it, either as someone intrigued along the journey or as someone who has your own goals and the desire to achieve them, there will be days like this:

The Return of Allen Iverson Beats a Philly Beat

Posted in Blogroll on December 8th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

From the moment Allen stepped into Philly and put up 30 points in his initial NBA coffee sip, he has been electrifying crowds young and old alike with his dazzling talent, heart and competitiveness. Last night was something different. Last night, the Sixers past star became just one of the guys in his return to Philadelphia for at least the rest of the season. This reads long, but I want this to keep over time. Oh, I called it here too. Click the welcome home AI pic to access on SLAM. Be Peace…

Breaking News: Woman Rushed From Tiger Woods’ Home On Life Support

Posted in Blogroll on December 8th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

From NBC Sports:

According to Orlando-based WESH, the adult female was taken from the $2.6 million mansion “on advanced life support” after firefighters received a call at 2:36 a.m.

A radio log showed an adult female was transported to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Fla., WESH reported.

Video footage obtained by WESH showed a woman on a stretcher being removed from an ambulance by emergency officials.

A black Cadillac Escalade was seen at the hospital shortly after the ambulance arrived, WESH reported. It said the license plate on the Escalade was similar to the one involved in Woods’ car crash on Nov. 27. WESH’s Web site described the driver as a blonde woman.

The report stated that a patient at Woods’ home had initially refused to be treated, creating confusion over whether more than one emergency call was placed from Woods’ residence.

The Starting Five NFL Week 13 Picks: Michael Vick the Falcon Returns As An Eagle

Posted in Blogroll on December 5th, 2009 by Michael Tillery

Some intriguing match ups this week where weather may be a factor. There are also a couple of dome games that will help shape the playoff picture depending on how visiting offenses perform. Another Virgina son comes home whose name is not Allen Iverson. Will the Eagles use Michael Vick more than one or two qb dives? Sup with that? There is no doubt in my mind the crowd will cheer like thunder when Mike appears. The irony of Matt Ryan being out is something to behold as well. Remember last season when everyone was swinging tight on the Falcons because of their young qb? As the team hovers around .500, what will be the pulse of ATL after Vick week? Can Vince Young do it again? If he does? Haters just go to your room and cry because it’s over for you. If Cleveland wins, I will rock a Cowboys jersey for the rest of the year. Take the over in Arizona/Vikings. This could be the game everyone thought NO/NE was going to be.

Allen Iverson Rejoins the Philadelphia 76′ers

Posted in Blogroll on December 2nd, 2009 by Michael Tillery

I’m not bragging by any stretch (not at all), because this was a natural move the minute he left for Denver. Just so happens their young point guard Lou Williams goes down with a broken jaw so the move had to be made. All along, the Sixers front office told me personally “there was no chance of this happening.”

Allen’s departure was not a good one and pride on both sides made the split irreconcilable despite his love for the city and the fans love for the Answer. The irony of the moment is movie worthy because in succession, the Sixers face Denver on December 7th and Detroit the 9th…his former teams…two games in a five game home stand that concludes with Cleveland on December 16th. How will Allen work out with the team and the coaching staff? Will he pass left out of the pick and roll? Defense? How does he figure in the offense where the guards have a major impact? We will see on the 7th. I personally feel this is a great move and Allen will return to his true form. His body is still intact and the time on the bench will actually help.

Move is for the rest of the year. No terms disclosed.

It’s obvious this is a financial move as well but there’s no denying Allen Iverson is a Sixer no matter what the circumstances.

Press release from the Sixers.

The Starting Five Stephen A. Smith Interview: There Are No Excuses

Posted in Blogroll on December 1st, 2009 by Michael Tillery

“Yet our best trained, best educated, best equipped, best prepared troops refuse to fight! Matter of fact, it’s safe to say that they would rather switch than fight!“–Thomas Todd

Crazy to think Fight the Power was twenty years ago, but what has really changed in the wake of Public Enemy doing whatever it took to shine the light on racial injustice of any kind?

How does this apply to journalism you say?

Yes, Barack Obama is President but so what? Where is equality? Are we ever able to visualize a world where journalism is truly objective? Why is middle America cool with a product which merely seems to superficially represent their history despite being so offensive to others?

Should we stop fighting because Pennsylvania Avenue is occupied by a family who looks like me…us…do…you…trust?

December 1, 1955: The Day A Rose Parked and Did Not Move

Posted in Blogroll on December 1st, 2009 by Michael Tillery

Insha’Allah (God willing), there will be a time where we all can muster the type of courage Rosa Parks exhibited in 1955. Yes, things have changed dramatically but the memory of “Mom” doing her due diligence lives strong in my mind powered by the soul of her weary, but determined eyes on this very day. Thank you Mom. We miss you.

The courage you showed you’re gold, some sold, their nose it rose, so cold the hose, time froze, it knows, your seat I hold.
