The Starting Five 2010 NFL Divisional Round Predictions
Sorry the picks are up so late. Sick as hell the last few days. In need of some sneezing, coughing, sore throat, stuffy head, so I can rest sugar and spice medicine. Ya heard? Anyway, down to the final 8 teams of the NFL season. These are the teams that belong here. Nothing wishy washy with any of these match ups. Don’t be surprised if another shootout or two develops. I hate the Cowboys…

Arizona @ New Orleans 4:30 EST FOX
Pick: ARI 34-28
Arizona is coming off one pin ball machine and jumping right into the next. The Superdome will be on Bourbon Street fire and if the Cardinals are gonna hang, Doucet and Dockett are key. Doucet finally showed the world what he’s capable of and should be heavy on confidence going into what will be a high scoring affair. If Dockett gets to Brees or does enough to throw the Saints off any type of rhythm, then I think the Cardinals win going away but NO has to win their first playoff game right? The season would be an utter disappointment if they don’t right? I tell you what, if they don’t win this damn game…
Baltimore @ Indianapolis 8:15 EST CBS
Pick: INDY 20-10
Ravens outside of a Rice ain’t phony running game just don’t have the guns to score the minimum points it takes to beat the Colts in a defensive struggle. I know for sure Suggs (He took care of Brady, guess who is next?) wants Manning to have a steady look at his mug, but Peyton will do enough to get it done. The young Ray Rice will have a game, but Indy hangs on late to win by ten.

Dallas @ Minnesota 1:00 FOX
Pick: Minny 24-20
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bah Humbug and all that ish. Argh lol So what I’m a Cowboy hater. Ain’t a damn thing changed. What you gonna do about it huh? Thought so. If Adrian Peterson holds on to the ball and 4 doesn’t give it to the other team as well, this should be a game the Vikings win. Dallas is coming off a 2 week Philly New Year hangover and Minnesota should be ready to prove it belongs. Sidney Rice and Peterson the stars. The Cowboys running game keeps ‘em in it. Romo take yo ass to Cabo. Punk #&%&#(!
NY Jets at San Diego 4:40 PM EST CBS
Pick: SD 40-20
All this Joe Namath this and Joe Namath that ain’t gonna bode well for the young fella going back to Cali. Sanchez is gonna get a steady plate of cleats in his face as the Chargers stampede into Indy next week. Ain’t nobody stopping this team yet. This is the hottest team in the league and opening at home spells disaster for Buddy’s son. We’ll see how nice the 46 is without Seth Joyner and Andre Waters. Revis is a monster but the Jets just don’t have enough. Braylon whatcha gonna do fam?

This week TheCoach has the Cardinals in a close battle… the reason being is because the Saints simply screwed themselves by benching starters in the last week of the season… They haven’t won a game in a month now with the BYE and haven’t won’t a meaningful game since the Patriots or looked good winning in the process. I don’t trust the way the Saints decided to finished off the season and even if they do win… no way they cover the touchdown spread…
Indy on the other hand can win this game, it once again will be closer than the touchdown spread predicts though. Baltimore is playing great smash-mouth football but I am concerned at the fact they are playing Peyton Manning who can single handily win a game as we have seen many times.
Minnesota played out the season and of course we all know what happened, they stomped the Giants 44-7 (who beat Dallas twice this season) but lets be realistic in the fact that Dallas is playing the best football since 1996 but Romo is finally playing football since ditching Jessica Simpson. Good move for his stats!
Last but not least, I know everyone is saying the Chargers are going to kill the Jets, but again, Vegas is giving to many points here (7.5). The Jets match up so well against the Chargers, Revis blanket whoever he wants, and they stop the run while running the ball against a Chargers team who other than week 17 when they played the Redskins, gave up 100+ on the ground to 6 straight opponents to finish off the season.
Also, to finish off since 2005, seven teams have won round one on the round and they are 7-0 against the spread in the 2nd round (take Baltimore and New York)

Best of luck to all this week…

Ravens over Colts – 24-17
Baltimore is peaking at the right time and knows what it wants to do on offense and defense and the Colts look like they are going into their typical postseason swoon. Unless the Colts get off to a quick start and pile on the points to take Rice and Mc Gahee out of the game and make Flacco beat them this will be a close game just like the first time but the Ravens will run the ball and score touchdowns this time
Saints over Cardinals – 45 – 42
Let’s hope the Saints solved their lack of a running game and defense stopping the run because if they haven’t Kurt Warner will pick them apart and Bennie Wells will cut gashes over the Saints defense who have reverted to the 2008 model. This game will be be high scoring so it may come down to the last team with the ball and two below average field goal kickers.
Jets over Chargers – 17-14
This game will be a defensive struggle because I don’t think Rex Ryan is going to let the Chargers get the ball to score points. I think it will be the Jets running game versus the Chargers defense and how they react to a slowed down game. Remember 4 years ago the Jets beat the Chargers in Overtime using the same strategy. If the Chargers score quickly and put the pressure on Sanchez it will be a blow out but I think Ryan is going to protect his rookie QB and have him make plays that won’t be damaging and I don’t think Norv Turner can coach won’t a damn.
Vikings over Cowboys 31-27
This game I kinda had doubts because of two below average coaches and QBS who I think are slightly overrated in my opinion, this will come down to the defenses and who stops the run because both teams can rush the passer and get sacks but will Minnesota run the ball more than Bret Farve would like to keep Ware and Spencer honest because if he plays Mr. gunslinger Dallas will blow the Vikings out because they are solid offensively. If Peterson runs for more than 150 yards the Vikings will win because the Cowboys defense will be on the field too long and I don’t think their pass rush is effective when playing from behind.
Colts over Ravens
Saints over Cardinals
San Diego over Jets
Vikings over Dallas
The Saints just pimped that depleted Cardinals secondary.
yes indeed the saints cashed out the Cards secondary. but depleted or not the saints looked good enuff to have cashed out on anyone last night.
all muscled lil Bush ran all over the place, over the Coach too! ha ha ha!.
and he man who said the Ravens did not have it was right. hey had even less than he thought.
dont know about tonites games. tuff to predict so I will just say who I want to win…the jets and minnesota.
I am not a cowboy hater! I liked people like Calvin Hill, Ed Too Tall, Preston Peason and Tony Dorsett too much for that.
but I cant stand Tony Romo! rather I can stand how they making this ordinary kid into something he aint.
it seems likely that the minny defence will expose him again this nite!
Was wrong on the Colts (boy do the Ravens need WR) but the was at least right on the score let’s hope my other picks come through
What up Eric.
You will get those last 2 games right. Cause the Vikings ain’t the eagles and they actually run the ball and stop the run. And last no matter how good the Jets corners are they can’t cover WRs who are big enough to play SG and SF in the NBA.
Look a here I see the score online……….looks like Farve will be in NO next week.
Hmmmmm maybe we get a Captain America and G.I. Joe SuperBowl (Payton Vs. Farve)…..a battle for who is the greatest American hero.
Well no worry with Farve cause he will be there……….but will Payton.
thought Peyton looked nervous on saturday.
the Ravens did not have what it took to capitalise on his neves and he came through.
hope Peyton is over those nerves and is confident against the chargers next week. but I aint sure…these are the playoffs.
got the feeling that the Colts woll make it through to the SB to produce indeed a supero hero finale. but will the Colts be able to do anything with the Vikes defence?
it looks like no one is beating the Vikes from here on in!
terrific Vike defence. shut down Romo indeed they did. poor Tony!
the kid tries but…… the media should leave him be his ordinary self
What’s up Orgin, I told y’all Norv Turner couldn’t coach worth a damn 17-14 Jets
Rex Ryan is a coach who lives dangerously…unnecessarily! wat was that short kick from the touchdown?
well…Peyton should beat these jets of the defence. the colts defence should terrorise Sanchez all day long.
however, Caldwell should have beaten these jets out of the playoffs when he had the chance
Yeah you were right. Didn’t see the game but dang Sproles only got the ball 3 times.
Norv must have some Andy Reid in him. Dude passes 40 times and only ran 15.
Please God hear this Eagles fan’s prayer and bring my team a dominating defense and a close-out run game for the ’10 season.
I loved seeing Big D get cut down to size today but it wasn’t sweet because it wasn’t the Eagles doing it. The Eagles need to invest heavily in the LB corps even with Bradley coming back next year and get another DE to complement Cole and another DT to push Bunkley and Patterson. Most controversial of all swing a deal and bring back Dawkins from Denver because the secondary missed his presence this season.
Offensively, just stick with the run, a real run game. Make Weaver the featured back or just get a thumper out of college this season or just give the nimrods in Philly what they want and ship McNabb outta there because he deserves better than the constant stream of criticism he gets when the Eagles come up short in other facets of the game.
PS. Get rid of McDermott too and get a real D-coordinator.
