Man, this was a great, great article on The Doctor. It saddens me that as the years roll by, Doc’s otherworldly talents are less and less celebrated. We often hear about Magic, Bird, and Jordan. Well, Doc’s name should be the first one mentioned. I can still taste the anticipation and excitement everytime Doc got the ball – everytime! Added bonus: His deportment off the court is exemplary, notwithstand a few personal failings, and his intellect, business acumen, and dignified presence is a wonderful example for young athletes and those looking for a positive role model to emulate. Man, I just love the Docta!!

Doc is so cool, intelligent and even-tempered. As graceful as he was on the court he seems more so off it. Dominique Wilkens said he never knew anybody whom he never heard a bad word about except one person. Doc.
Years ago I read somewhere that Julius Erving was probably the first african american male that had widespread appeal as a role model for white kids. I can’t speak for others but that’s exactly what was for me and he still is.
