Somewhere lost in the LeBron, Flash and Bosh hype was the possibility of Amar’e Stoudemire shaking up this free agent signing period so viciously it would cause everyone to rethink everything they had just rethought. JaMarcus Russell Arrested for Possession of Codeine Syrup

Posted in JaMarcus Russell, Oakland Raiders on July 6th, 2010 by Ron Glover

Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell was arrested today at his home in Mobile, Alabama for possession of codeine syrup – a controlled substance. Russell was arrested as part of an undercover narcotics investigation. Mobile County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lori Myles would not say what led to the arrest – she did state however, that Russell did not have a prescription for the medication.

“Syrup”  is underground compared to other to high profile drugs but is one of the most prevalent. Viewed as an easy and inexpensive get high – when used carelessly can have sometimes fatal results (I lost a high school buddy to it).  Sometimes it’s taken with a Valium or Xanax and called “Pancakes and Syrup”.

Prior to his arrest, one thing that could be said for Russell was that his issues were only on the field – that’s definitely changed after today.

Russell is due in court July 20.
