The Steve McNair Tragedy: A Conversation with Howard University SID, Ed Hill

Posted in Blogroll on July 5th, 2010 by Michael Tillery

While watching PTI last year I heard Michael Wilbon mention a familiar name, Ed Hill, when asked of his first Steve McNair experience. I’d met Ed Hill, the Sports Information Director at Howard University and also Chevonne Mansfield when Anthony Gilbert, Jeff Young and I drove down to DC to cover Lakers/Wizards.

Coincidentally, that same night, I conducted one of my most excruciating interviews with Lamar Odom. Lamar and I spoke of the death of his son, which leads us to the death of another son.

I contacted Chevonne and she immediately set something up with Mr. Hill. Thanks Chevonne.

This is a conversation I had with Mr. Hill on the day McNair’s death was officially ruled a murder/suicide. Mr. Hill saw the magic in McNair’s arm up close and personal when Howard University competed against Alcorn State in the early 90′s.

I waited a year to drop this on the day after the anniversary of Air’s passing so we won’t soon forget how magnificent the battle tested star was during his career. He willed his team to wins late when it appeared early on his teams would surely suffer defeat.

The man was heart blazed of steel.

I’d written this column because it appeared media opinion of McNair wasn’t right and exact so I sought to preserve his athletic legacy for his sons.

Yeah he was murdered but what about what he did on the field?

Damn…

Posted in Blogroll on July 2nd, 2010 by Michael Tillery

Some of the best times I’ve had with family during holidays just like this were spent at my Pop’s (with guitar) and Nana’s in Chester, PA. You see me rockin’ my Yankees uniform. Nothing has changed from Little League.

Nothing serious this Friday. Just that chilllllll. As most of you may know, music is a huge part of my life because memories of times are juxtaposed with tracks as if they do in fact go hand in hand. Very apropos 3 hour holiday mix from Core DJ’s that includes many classics…here (you really want to download this and not only because it’s free).

Some classics I remember oh so well…

Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James: New York Here, Miami There or Chicago Everywhere?

Posted in Blogroll on July 1st, 2010 by Michael Tillery

The crème de la crème are laughing at all of us. Fellas just link up and form NBA Voltron. Why not?

It’s that time. Social networks twitter and facebook are abuzz as folks are wondering where LeBron James will play next season. Teams all over the place are clearing cap space. Man this has become a soap opera. I was joking earlier that editors, writers, bloggers and whoever else are straight buggin’ because it seemed as if on 12:01 am, July 1st the world was going to end. 2012 the NBA movie? Maybe it was just a LeBron James Christmas Story? I don’t know, but this free agent crop and signing period will be one of the most talked about off seasons in NBA history. Cats are opting out like crazy to jockey for that big pay day because there might not be another.

As far as LeBron, Flash and CB4…why not have a free agent summit and discuss the biggest decision of their NBA lives beforehand? All this bull crap about ego and not having enough balls to go around needs to stop. This cats did it for a three year Olympic commitment, so why not now?
