Thursday Night Football: Chicago Bears at Miami Dolphins

For those of us with a late-week NFL rush, the NFL Network supplies the fix with its second installment of Thursday Night Football. Tonight the Chicago Bears (6-3) travel to Miami to face the Dolphins (5-4), the Bears are tied for first in the NFC North while the Phins are tow games behind the Jets and Patriots in the AFC East.

Nearly 25 years ago the Dolphins knocked off the then-undefeated Bears on a Monday night to ruin the Bears run at a perfect season and preserve their 1972 franchise as the only team to go wire to wire in the modern era.

Well tonight’s game is a far cry from the drama that took place in the Orange Bowl that night.

The Dolphins will be marching out their third quarterback this season. Tyler Thigpen will start in place of Chad Henne and Chad Pennington, both are hobbled with injuries. Thigpen is serviceable and isn’t afraid to throw the ball deep. He has great targets in Brandon Marshall and Davonne Bess, and an above average running game to keep things rolling.

The Bears have maintained their focus and still find themselves in first place. Jay Cutler is one of the top passers in the NFC and Devin Hester is quietly putting together a career season as a receiver not to mention the versitile Matt Forte and a rigid defense.

The Pick: I think the Dolphins are going to do their best to keep the Bears off balance with alot of gadget looks. They will do their best to minimize Thigpen’s responsibility. The Dolphins should be able to get to Cutler and that could mean an interception or two.

Dolphins 24 – Bears 17

Yeah…MV7 has completely messed up my ability to watch a game fairly. 5 minutes into the first quarter and I was actually complaining about no scoring….then I fell asleep.
